| MMM. With MNR on the way, MKWii alresy here and Split/Second also tying up the(more mature in it's case) power up racing scene will Sega be able to shoulder their way in to the crowded market? I dunno myself as the creation side of MNR looks a bigger hook than racing as Sonic when he shouldn't REALLY need a car in the first place anway! Also the DESTRUCTION side od S/S looks like a better hook than the list of Sega characters that fw really care about these days-though chuck in a few laps of a Valkyria Chronicles falvoured track and I'm possibly closer to being in! As it stands though this really does look like it's very much an HD Sega answer to MKwii-and will that be enough when other power up racers of differening methods are coming up fast with seemingly far more than cute and retro chracters up their sl;eeve? I love some non serious,no modding needed, no commitment karting on console, don't get me wrong, nut they really need to do a little more to distance themselves from the plumber and his mates on trackday. It's like-if GR is worried about 3D Dot Heroes being sued over similarities to LttP or whatever then just how much will Ninty be sending their lawyers after the former poacher turned spiky blue gamekeeper when it seems he's altered again and run off with Mazza's Karting blueprint? To me this is a LOT more likely to arouse a court case as Ninty STILL make a current game like this on two systems and haven't made a true 2D Zelda in an age and 3DDGH pays a ,lot wider homage too(and to other games) than this one looks to do, imo. |

| Under the radar? Well, in the Uk sdome aren't even getting releases-Demon's Souls and Excite Bots for two! Anyway, personal moans aside I'd heard of all of these before release(FFS the aaaages it took Trine to release was embarrassing andeveryone knew about it-justfew of us, sadly as it's pretty cool, didn't care!)and can't really call any of them belowthe radar in truth. Maybe they weren't expected to be as good as they were in some cases but it's not like many pulled up any trees in the sales world anyway! And Shodow Complex is possibly the single most hped XBLA game ever made! Uner the Rasar? It was born on the radar while it's mum weas transmitting it's existence and amazing-ness well before conception! I think it might have MADE a few radars myself. |

|
| Well, I loved the old Zelda games and other 2D action adventurers(and this doesn't just take Zelda as it's inspiration but rather the whole genre at a specific point in gamings timeline)so am completely sold on this as Nintendo certainly don't make 'em like this anymore! Spirit Tracks is in thje same style as PH/WW so there's no current toes to step on for Atlus really and even though much of what you find here is similar to Zelda parts you have to think that not even Zelda invented them all, did it? All this said the game, along with the equally interesting looking Wii jrpg CCCB, sold like pee flavour Mountain Dew (WITHOUT Master Chief on the bottle!)out in Japan to an alarming degree so they certainly didn't warm to it for whatever reason and they LOVE zelda! Still, it's something I'll be picking up when it finally wends it's way to the UK-unless it does a Demon's Souls(whic has upset me by not appearing, or looking like ever doing so, in the EU). Whatever, I just hoe it can stand up to the quality of the games it tries to pay homage to and, [providing it does that could it turn out to be another game in the long line of kami and Killer7-Japanese games of great class that somehow can't catch fire(despite seeming like a great idea well executed)in sales terms either at home or in the west. recap:schwartz dunged? |
| The next GTA will be set in the UK in either Manchester or Glasgow(probably the latter)and be set in the infamous Ice Cream Van wars. The trees and mountains are not an altogether res herring but an allusion to the fact some missions will take you to the highlands where whilst higing outyou till be able to play mini "Highland" games like caber tossing and the like before returning to the big smoke and getting involved in some sectarian football violence. The Soundtrack will consist opf mainll Scottish indie bands from the 80's onwards-with the FM stations pushing the likes of Belle and Sebastian(imagine crowbarring heads in to the strains of "Is it wisked not to care" and other stations using the power of Mogwai while the classic station plays onl Simple minds and Aztec Camera and Rod Stewart. And Orange Juice natch. Missions will see you rounding up crazy alcos to send to London as part iof a homeless army and you deciding whether to blow up Ibrox or Parkhead. Trust me on this. Manchester is the outside bet(meaning the mountain/trees stuff is a nice trip to the Lakes-my neck of the woods)and GTA:Steeltown(read Hlasgow) will be born more than likely in 2011. |

| Meh, crap campaign storywise with or without glaring potholes or publicity craving "terrorist" missions. Seriously, why didn't they do it in flashback, unplayable with an undercover US agent being forced into giving a story that fitted what the Russians wanted to do. You could then also show how much it fekks people up(being undercover, shooting innocents and all-rather than put it in the hands of the gamer who generally doesn't feel anything about what he shoots)AND how people will say whatever ttheir questioners want to hear? It would have even been a topival thought on what might actually have happened at Guatanamo, no? Or were IW too busy trying to keep online gaming in the creaky P2P era so they can provide the only new maps(and noone makes those pesky "mods" that fequently show their own lack of imagination a little too clearly)and paid for at that and making videos that offend anyone who isn't, in fact, homophobic themselves. Oh, and practising the clever dibide and rule tricks that their m,asters at Acti taught them so well in the time they were all forgetting that they were gamers once? Silly story, silly antics and a sad level of complicity from the "gaming community" that apparently believed Acti when they said thei was a premium game even if it meant the online game of the year exists with crappy P2P on all systems and limited us to 9v9. So much for caring about the quality of your own game IW. Lets take online gaming backwards and not bother with a cohesive storyline as gamers are happy as long as they shoot stuff, right? |

| GOW3 is more your certain quality while, with a new IP that apes a lot of that series and aims to get a 14th century work of lit inot the gaming masses minds there's still penty that could fall on it's face. Sony SM are just expanding and polishing the epic stuff from previous games in the series. For me the jury is still ver much out on DI but here's hoping that it's more up my street than Bayonetta which, from playing the Japanese demo, just felt like DMC lite with the mad dialled up a bit and I expected something new rather than just reworked from someone of Kamiya's rep and talent. Doing what amounts to a DMC clone with tita and extr hair attacks doesn't excite me when it plays like the demo does. I can't get over all the perfect scores it's getting! Then again Madworld got plenty of goodness when it was WAY too little content for a disc based full retail game-but Platinum get a free pass all the time. Just like it's somehow Sega's fault if they're too damn lazy to make the PS3 version of their own game! And it's a decent port as well-there's been so much over the top criticisms of that port and it's just nowhere near as bad as they say. It's not in the same league for PS3 multi mess ups as G'busters let alone the Orange Box. But I digress, I'm very much hoping DI will bring some GOW standard gaming to everyone but mainly to those on 360 only who will miss Kratos latest, and possibly greatest, if the updates since the mindblowing E3 demo are much to go by. |

Anyone else would get torn a new one for doing EXACTLY what he always does but somehow Kamiya gets away with just about anything. As do Platinum-Madworld was a nice distraction but was NEVER long aniugh for a full retail price tag! Anyway the demo felt and this sounds like yet more of Kamiya's under developed ideas and just throwing loads of stuff at a gamer and thinking it's enough. Well maybe if you're a baby or a magpie but not for me. More is not always best and just once I'd like to see his true action games fully evolve ONE(just one!) idead to it's logical conclusion or highest quality and not just chuck whatever he thinks of at us like he always does. |

|
| Hate for DMC4 WAS justified just not for that reason. The reason being it was sh1t having to play half a game TWICE so Capcom could pretend they made a full one. Only the immense turd that is DMC2 saves 4 from being easily worst in series. That said RE5 was just as poor and SF4 was ruined by bloody noobish "focus" BS. And as for PC gamers hating MW2 being justified-of course they are. Console gamers should also have stood up with their PC brethren(and EU brethren getting conned out of extra tenners so they can do it to all of you next time)and demanded dedicated servers. If anyone is blind enough to think that P2P doesn't mean more lag, greater host advantage and all the woes of OLD online gaming then IDK what to say to them. The biggest entertainmant release ever they called it, the biggest online game of the year-in 2009. Making ALL that money and they couldn't even give us some proper servers? Don't they care about improving on the last game online? It's 2009 and Killzone2, Warhawk and many other console games have shown what advantages are to be found with dedicated servers(to say nothing of the invention of the PC crowd and the amazing mods these days-and the past or are we all forgetting how great CS was?)and the most profitable game this year SHOULD have had dedicated servers whenit leans so heavily on it's online and they're the best way to go, give the best product. But Acti and IW only care about the bottom line and shipped a game with no beta(shocking that it didn't work on PC and PS3 eh?)and no dedicateds because all they care about is the bottom line while calling a game with outdated online a "premium" product and charging accordingly. Apart from that Kotick told us how he was going to force yp game prices and we#'re letting him, IW started making offensive videos and lying to all and sundry about WHY they dropped the PC's dedis. The "terrorist level" is ham fisted at best and controversy hogging at worst. It's a grutuitous bit of publicity hunting, imo, made moreso becauuse it could have been done a lot beter AND you didn't even need to play it! Meaning it wasn't needed in the first place! And the story is crap and silly and calling it MW1.5 would be generous considering how little anything improved. Seriously 9v9 IW? You're spoiling us ALL! Greedy buggers. I cannot believe so many of us rushed to pay for a sub standard online run and gun. Seriously, when R2 can manage 60player games on PSN why can't the market leader manage more than 9v9? There's less lag on those 60 player games than there is on MW2- market leading console online shooter my 4rse. It's a disgrace. |

| COD is a "hardcore" shooter? Mate it's as arcadey and pick up and play as they come which is exactly why, when other shooters on the Wii die a silent death, WaW marches ever onward to a surprising 1.5 million and beyond at the last count. The aim assisted COD series is perfect "my firstest shooter" fodder for Wii owners wanting more than party games now they've noticed their little white box does other things than JUST Mariokart you know! While MP3 might have been a bit serious and gamey COD is everywhere! It's on the news FFS! They , newer gamers, will have seen MW2 so why not give them the first one even if IW were far too up themselves to ever make it themselves(the tossers). Besides, no "hardcore" shooter would go FROM dedicated servers to P2P, now would it? COD aimed at core gamers! I've heard it all now I really have. What are games like Operation Dragin Rising and the Battlefield games, MAG or Counterstrike aimed at then-supermen? Alongside Halo COD is the most approachable shooter available with it's aim assisted gameplay and as such is PERFECT for the Wii and it's demographic where there were a lot of people(over a long while admittedly but Wii COD doesn't get advertised does it?)ready to shell out for WaW last tme out. Whatever, COD just isn't a hardcore shooter, imo, not at all. Even some xconsole only shooters are more core than COD these days. Killzone2 is by a mile AND even has proper dedicated servers and no assisted aiming online. Christ! Even the 60player online of R2 is as hardcore as MW/MW2/WaW!Jeez. Oh, and GR, you're REALLY marking this down because it's a Wii game port that isn't as good looking as the PS360 game? Really? That's fair. |

crumbdunky commented on: Fanboys: 8 reasons why they deserve some respect |
|
| Jeez, whatever. Pointless article though and saying fanboys keep older opnline games alive or care about PLAYING hatdcore games is patently untrue. They may spend all day, as many of them do, TALKING about Halo. Or indeed taking any slight positive criticism of Halo in the same way we might if someone calmly informed us they'd just raped our mum AND did it in front of the kids but they sure aren't still playing it-gamers are. Gamers will play the hardcore games too-as well as moan when there aren't any-whereas the fanboy, with far more internets whining time than gaming time will not play any games that much. True about the E3 slides though-it's why Sony fanboys love Mr Tretton so much as you can ALWAYS rely on him sending the tone of excitement through the floor with predicted PS2 revenue in Galapagos over the next six months slides. And yes, they ARE passionate. But it's so musguided they need shooting. They support one face;ess corp over the other AND over their fellow gamer too-is THAT healthy? Do we imagine Sony or MS care about THEM? Not if they spend too much time moaning to buy any bloody software they won't. That said they will enjoy the free spin they get. Sadly, though, the feeble and selfish "my way is the only way" arrirude of fanboys is what has infected the whole gaming community of late. If we had a real gaming community(and we don't right now so lets not pretend , eh?)we would ALL have stood up to IW/Acti and demended dedicated servers, a decent story and a longer campaign from the biggest oponline game of the year, the biggest entertainment event of the year and the releasde of the year wouldn't we? It's 2009 and the game most famous for it's MP wants us playing on creaky old P2P? Not good enough and what was the reaction of console gamers when PC heads lost dedicated servers and were asked for more cash into the bargain? They laughed and said they all deserved it paying no mind that they ALREADY pay that much and more and get shafted with P2P all the time. Why didn't they also demand it? Because fanboys are affecting the way we think and it has to stop or we'll be Kotick's nitches forever and a day. There is only idiocy in console evangelism. The mindset of the fanboy has encroached onto mainstream gaming's brains and left us unable to defend purselves from massive rip offs like MW2 or call out T10 for being complete twonks this year! The sooner the fanboys die the sooner we might start getting some value for money, decent haardware from MS and everyone else and maybe, because it's 2009 PEOPLE FFS, dedicated servers and more than 9v9 in COD next effin time. Fanbyism killed the unified gaming community and now we all have to pay. All the time. FForever. So don't make out there are good points when there just aren't at all. Except the slides. You were right there I suppose-otherwise noone would listen to Jack's fave bits. |

| When will you guys stop playing to the gallery and can the same old Wi nonsense. There's some great games on the console and more coming. Sure I wouldn't want one as my only console but as part of your gaming line up they can be great. I wouldn't have missed Madworld, Extraction,Z&W, CBoomblox, De Blob,Muramasa, NMH, MetroidPrime3, Punchout!!, Brawl, SMG and a good few others for quite a lot of the fine brewed beverage originating from China-and is there a MORE hardcore game on the horizon than Sin and Punishment 2? Not for me there ain't and only a crazy desperado with nothing to lose would suggest otherwise! Be that desperado I dares ya. Be him! That kind of previously Japan only til appearing years later on VC crazy assed shooty, shooty is the stuff "core" is made of and you should know that by now. Yes, there's a ton of fluff and nobbly bomsence on the Wii-but there is on PS2 as well and we ignored that pretty well so don't be so alarmist you reactionary dogs! Besides, picking on the Wii's soft underbelly of casual gaming grans is rapidly becoming the games media equivalent of gathering new born St Bernard pups into a sack before casually kicking them to a bloody pulp. You can consider yourselves warned. And how. Watch yourself GR, watch yourself. Maybe not today maybe not tomorrow but soon and for the rest of your life you'll regret your "lighthearted" jibes at an innocent cconsole and it's unfairly treated new demographic. We were all casual about this thing once you know-even me(VERY hard to believe with my reputation I admit but it's true nonetheless)and yes, even you at GR. | Samus-IDK the reviews for this have been very up and down and if you love Mario then I'd err on the side of reviews like this or at least take a little cation with the game. Look at the levels. Do they seem as fun filled and challenging as classic 2D Mrio? I've just come from playing Sonic2 and , being nonest, this looks like such a meek challenge after that it's not true. Like I feel you were I was hoping for greatness(AND to play with a GC controller and nothing else!)but this doesn't look or feel great and I felt some of the more fawning reviews were just over hapy to have a 2D Mzza ar all as every level I'ce so far seen looks like not just a rehash but also a toned down one and the fact Wii has way more power than a snes makes it even more clean and sparse looking. I'll be brutally frank with you-I reckon GR(and I've had ISSUES with them reviewing of late)are going to be pretty close to the mark. TRemember, also, how many writes grew up with Mario games like this and a fw of the slobbering reviews make more sense-they WANTED it to be great so it was always going to be-even if the game isn't as good as the glorious past. After the triumph of the admittedly Ratchet aping SMG(though how far and hopw wellm Ninty went with it is amazing)this looks more of a nostalgic throwback just with the difficulty eased for newer gamers. It's something I was scared of and appears to have happened. Is NOTHING sacred Ninty, nothing? |

| Gameguy-Do you LIKE the fact that we get shafted by most devs into crappy P2P on consoles? Haben't you noticed how much better games run online with them when we et them-which is quite often on PSN while less so on Live? Don't you imagine that had we gamers, like a REAL community, stood up together with our PC gaming bros and demanded not only dedicareds for them buy also for PS360 that we might have got them? The game wouldn't have gone anywhere and a real cross format stance of "no buy til you sort out the MP servers-and the sly price hikes and the homophobic videos and..." would have scared them if many of us joined in but no you'd rather laugh at PC gamers being shafted like we console gamers ALWAYS are because we can't stick together. Honestly, like you the gamiong community need to grow up or we'll be paying more and more for less and less. Fewer features and lesser amounts of R&D as we gamers get squeezed even though WE support the whole damn thing! When will we stop being a console gamer and a PC gamer before we're just gamers. til we do we're easy meat to IW and Co who'll take every penny while doing less and less work in future. Seriously, do you LIKE paying more and getting fewer features and worse online performance? Thats' what they're offering and you endure with that attitude. Chrisy on a bike sopme people can't see the wood for the trees. You seriously think anyone's better off with P2P? Console gamers should want them AS WELL as PC gamers and allow us to ship in some mods too like we can for UT3 on PS3. I LIKE free content, again I suppose you don't, is that it? |

| Because it's an update of an almost completely different game. It has NOTHNG to do with the PS360 PES. If you bother to learn enough to play along it's a VERY good football game and the fact they sound like they're diappointed with a 9/10 scoring game shows that very well, imo. The only thing I WILL say, though, is that when you play enough of it, this years PES on PS3 is actually a little more realistic a football sim than it's flashy Fifa rival and I fear no rebiewers and few gamers gave it enough plays through. I'll admit the relative pace of the players within the game is plain broken and needs patching BUT if they did that it'd be an amazing effort and my fave since 2004/5. |

However, and despite her unusually long feet(though I just blame the style of high heeled slingback she favours)I'd always put Ada Wong in this kind of "strong woman in games" list. It's not like sh'es over revealing or over endowed in the chest and bum stakes-she just likes to kick zombie/mitant/parasite host ass in a crimson cocktail dress. Still, she keeps her own counsel and plays all the leading men of Resi ioff against each other with her own, very personal and mysterious agenda. So, yes, Samus is safe at humber on but there should have been a place for Ada and in the top 7 at that! Just saying but good work otherwise. |

| Didn't read like the review for an alledgedly perfect game to me-and having NEVER played any game I'd give 10/10 I must say every 10/10 score confuses me a little. However, when I recall the reviews for the likes of GTA4(which most reviewers went perfect over)I rememver them being a lot more gushing than this, saying how much MORE and BETTER than the previous game in the series or last great in the genre they were. Bottom line, from mates who've now finished it(I won't be buying into IW and Activision after they scalped us in the EU in the name of ripping gamers off eberywhere next time, being homophobic in promos, lying about WHY they did what they did to PC gamers, saying they hate fanboys but being on record bitching about the PS3 and being close to Kotick among a host of other gamers hrming activities-seriously-they did a proper divide and rule in the name of even higer profits and giving us all crappier multiplayer in future)in SP and played a decent amount in the co-op and mp they reckone it's a good game, even a great one in some areas but basically just more of the same with a crap story. There's no technical advance, it's got the same shoddy AI and there's NO innovation(which apparently killed KZ2 EVERYWHERE!)whatsoever-and this is coming from mates who are mssive fanboys of the MW/COD franchise(and who STILL bought the game despite my endless messages about how they were helping Acti bend over the gakming commmunity and "were they proud f that?"). I'm sure it IS a good game and I'd love to be playing a little bit with you(though only a little as COD controls bore me silly with their two minute learning curve-where's the challenhe?)but I'm just not buying perfect-well, in fact I'm not buying at all as already EA are looking to follow Actis lead in shafting us by culling new IP-we should have stood up together over what they were doing wrong, imo. We didn't and now they know they can teat us like cack and we'll still turn up like giddy, hyperventilating schoolgirls at a JT gig for the midnight launch. Even cartoon/Anime percs will find it way too sh1t for their tastes! Honestly, who is this mess for? I had the misfortune of playing it on both 360 AND the uber fiddly PS3 sixaxis-glaive-driving version(man-I thought the controls for Lair were weak!)AND as I'd rented it at launch I also beheld the terminal dullness that the epitomy of tacked on multiplayer managed to be with actual opponents! Had the sodded the MP off and spent the cash on a better SP it ould have been saved as some of the takedowns with the gld special powers were cool. That said, it stole the glaive off Blade2 FFS. BLADE2! I think you understand me.And in that game you could, IIRC, lop off at least seven or eight vampire hoggins inone throw with Blade's glaive! So, a game with pi55 weak MP and a glaive weakler than that in a movie tie in game which sank without trace is one of GR's "favourite" games o? I do NOT believe you and $3.50 sounds about fair to me. However, kudoringing up the one arcade game that always bothered me a little-Chiller. Funnily enough I NEVER saw anyone actually play it but watchgo through it's demo used to attract a queasy crowd sometimes. TestDDs adds a good question about what kind of umen the game would appeal to though. Thankfully very few if our greasy spoon and bandit fuelled arcade was much to by! It was just called The Arcade for ages but once they brought in a bandit for the first time it became The Monte Carlo! FFS!Good times with the SF cabs though, good times! Plenty of 1942 as well. Anyway, no. Dark Sector was pants and the public got it right with that one in much the same way that EA got it totally wrong by continuing the trens of Rail shooters on the Wii. EVERYONE wanted a real DS experience and no matter now good and good looking Extraction would be could EVER make up for the fact they made entirely the wrong game for a consle populous starved of a decent TPS survival horror to play since the awesome Wii edition of RE4 And they ignored the fact that if you don't stick "Resident" and "Evil" on your Wii rail shooter it's as good as dead. Then in an act befitting the old EA(or modern Acti) they blamed Wii owners for not buying a game they never wanted in the first place and made it quite clear to EA at the time! Seriously does anyone know anyone who wasn't less interested once the words rail, lightgun and shooter start being used here? Even EA knew it which is why they won't call it a rail shooter but a "guided FP game" or whatever. So why is it the game's fan EA? And why did you then fail to advertise it at all outside of the odd gaming site that 0.007 percent of Wii owners will ever visit? Sorry, I'm in a bad mood. I HATE Hallowe'en since ours in the UK went all American and trick or treaty. In my day my dad would have made me take ALL the loot back and apologize for behaving like some dirty homeless beggar. What's more the miserable git would have been right. A move back towards "mischeif night" is what's needed in the UK-a move back to stealing people's gates and kicking the wing mirrors off of cars and supergluing EVERYTHING possible while using copious amounts of fireworks. And not US aping collecting door to door dressed in a sheet with a glowing placcy pumkin. Hey, fine for the States but it just isn't English. We should stop it. |

crumbdunky commented on: Disney Epic Mickey (Wii): The 11 things you NEED to know about Epic Mickey |
|
| Well, usually anything Disney makes me worried and want to run away. Fast. Have to admit, though, that this looks pretty interesting. Good for the Wii to have something BIG that isn't going to be a Ninty product either-thing is with the normal desire for high fidelity for Disney and their animations I'd have felt they might have wanted to go the HD route either as well as the Wii or instead of. That said we've seen the Wii do well with heavily drawn characters and backgrounds as diverse as Muramasa and even SMG or Metroid-so an even mire cartoony game might not lack very much in the end though to beat out R&C's latest will be well beyond them. I'm not complaining, mnd, but do think Disney would have wanted to make it look as good as possible. Ney, must just be a market thing and they couldn't see PS360 gamers playing as much as Wi gamers with it being MM and all-I'm not sure the're right , mind, as if it's a bit hard it might not set the Wii alight while KH always does well on PS doesn't it? Interesting choice and I'm intrigued to see if they made the right one. Certainly, however, makes a change for a Disney project not to make me queasy! |

| Van't agree with SF4 and SC4 being better than NN VR. Not at all-SF2THGR is a better SP ame than SF4 for a start and SF4 is RUINED by those useless focus moves, imo, and don'yt startm me on Sould Calibur 4-after the Darthj , Yoda nd generic crew cut guy from TFU appeared wrecking the whole thing for sales I couldn't take it seriously anymore whatsoever. VV is the best of the three and yet you think it suffers because it's a new IP? What a crime not already having a fanbase is! I've never heard anything so mental in my life-it's never as if there's not enough people to play with is it? So why is Tekken's fanmbase a bad thing if someone wants to compare BB and T6? AAAAND BB looks better, has more intriguely balanced fighters(even if the roster is small it's also faultless AND the UK version will be getting more fighters in any case and no doubt they'll be available as DLC in the US at some point as well. Honestly, I'd pick a new vibrant game in BB over the incredibly overated SF4 any day of the week.THat's without "Kendiots" & spamming hads online! |

| R&C games are a must to pre order for me and have been dince the very first one. The most consistent series in gaming by a mile and vastly underrated. Hated on by the ignorant for being "kiddy" when they're just genious family entertainment that woprks on a million levels-like, say, the Simpsons does. Great artstyle, gfx, acting, script, comendy, platforming, shooting, amazing weapons and some of the best rounded chars in gaming. What's not to love about Insomniac's wee gem of a series? I know this is mooted as the last game, and if so I'll be very damn sad about that, but even if it's so they've iven us a shedload of quality with very few lowpoints and some of the best ads ever back in the day. I REALLY can't praise these games enough and don't get why more people arenm't like a five year old on Xmas eve the day before release! Good review too GR-lately you really have started to be one of the more reliable sites(as I've played this great game already and a 9 or 9.3 is a fair score)-fans won't be disappointed and newcomers should hive it a chance |

crumbdunky commented on: The Top 7... Scariest games you've never played |
|
| O've played a few of these and have to say that while "I have no mouth..." is certainly unsettling I wouldn't call it scary-mainly, however, it just depresses me.The Lurking Horror is a quality texty, imo, and really did, at athe time anyway, fuel some nasty umages in my younger mind, some of which were really frightening if I was playing on my own in the wee small hourshe lights off and the sound up in the time honoured way for Horror games(BTW I had it for Amiga and you didn't this but the added sounds really helped make it frightening for me). Hadn't played the old Arati game-hadn't heard of that really either or Illbleed but I'll give them a try if I can track them down cheaply. The Dark Eye wasn't that scary at all-maybe it's only don't know Poe that well that it can be a scary of game but, for me, s'ok nuttin bit a humdrum scare provider , imo. |

|
| Well, if it was a proper facial hair comp I'd be in but beards, full and manly beards is where it's at for the hirsute faced among us. I'm currently at the "polar explorer after three months on the ice" stage right now-I could definitely sculpt a truly awe inspiring 'tache should I really desire but I'm noping to have a "Santa before he went grey" by Xmas and a full blown "viking beserker beard" capable of supporting THREE real plaits! No pruning or clipping for me! Let the fuzz grow wild and free and fulsome! Birds and mice could nest in mine alredy and I just won't stop-not even for charity(beards are more important than that! Or even to be in RDR(which would be a buzz I'll admit-just not one worth ruining my "facialgrowth regime" for! Oddly,. however, my beard seems to be multi coloured! Everytjhing is in there:chestnet, white bits, cluey ones, black ones, dark chocolate brown hairs and even the odd blonde and gingerish ones! It's a magical technicolour dreambeard if you ask me. It's fantastic face fuzz fun and with winter coming soon it's hella warm into the bargain. Good to see Cuncdy's noble effort though-a little contrived for my taste but fine or an amatear! Keep it up and you could graduate to beards and the hall of real men in the future! |

|
| I think a LOT of people have been way too quick to say Fifa is the winner of this annual batle this time around. For a start it wouldn't be PES if there weren't crap keepers, now would it? I don't agree with you saying the toning down of the through ball (which worked is if by magic sometimes in 2009 which was a great leveller between players who knew what they were doing and tried to play properly and those who just press triangle every time they get in the other's half! Now it just needs a litle skill and timing like(gasp) footy does in real life! So, yes, more games for you I,m afraid! Also quite like the fact that dribbling needs more skill this time out as well as it feeling a lot more authentic than this years overrated Fifa. It's easier to make mistakes, bad? No good! Real players mess up ALL the time and I think, after some really long hors testing both out that while it's a close call PES takes it for being most like a real game of football this year. The rise of Fifa has been a little exaggerated, imo, and though it's improved agin I feel the tweaking Konami have done lends a more authentic air to proceedings than what EA managed. Surely you won't go far wrong with either game this season-both are brilliant football games(they'll never beat Sensi but there you go!)-though I haven't played either online as of yet and Konami are amazingly still capable of messing that side completely(who could forget the lag and stutter wars of 2008-all us vets bear those scars for life!). The real downer, so far, and I agre sompletely here-is the worrying lack of pace the speedy players have. It's shocking that SWP can't skin Huddlestone to me and it HAS to change. Surely a patch with the code for players dribbling and sprinting pace isn't beyond us these days? That apart, though, the feeling of pulling an oppo defense around with your thoughtful, incisive passing and movement is way better on PES than Fifa ever managed-and the same when you're defending. Changing your man and pressuring the ball is more realistic and managable in PES. So, yeah, I might have agreed with you after playing both for just a short while now, after a lot of games I'd have to say PES is the better game. It'll definitely have more footballers playing it, imo, as it does feel more "real" to me this year. I can see why people think Fifa's gone past Pro Evo but I just don't think, if that's your opinion, you played enough of both just yet. |

| Okami is a truly magical and unique game-and Okamiden will be amaz\ing on DS as the stylus/touchy should suit the gameplay eally well even if I'd have LOVED to see a Wand/Motion plus/Natal powered REAL sequel come out soon! Whay none from this gen though? Valkyria Chronicles would've been a good place to start, imo, or some of the ignored mature Wii games-NMH cicn't get the audience it deserved that's for sure so to only have CTW is a little sad(esp when there are a million good DS games that didn't sell well-Dementium, TWEWY etc, etc). And no Ico? For shame GR for shame! Shoehrned in a few too many original Xbox games too which flopped because Xbox gamers ONY cared about Halo and SC in those days and you damn well know it! Even today 360 games that aren't shooters struggle as well. |

|
| rxb-I'm surprised there was neither JSW NOR Manic Miner on this "inspired by the "real Retro" featyre from Charlie Brooker's Gameswipe from BBC the other night! Practically all of this can be pulled back to that TV show and that's no bsad thing when you think of the clever way around lack of 3D Sentinel managed at that time. Old British C64 and Speccy games are the muts nuts for me as far as retro goes even IF Jet Set Willy was broken in two places and you needed to glitch it twice(and know where to do it too) just to get to halfway through the damn game(just after The Banyan Tree level IIRC-could be wrong it's long time since I allowed this game to ruin my mood!). But even if it was criminally broken it was still hyper mad and imaginative and deserved a place here as a game some more folk would have played. Even the old £1.99 C64 games could be good AND mad. I remember a rip off version of Paperpboy crossed with NMX bandits type thing which wasincane and you got points for avioding city gents and grannies who would stick unbrellas and walking sticks into your spokes respectively. You could always rely on a mental celevration screen wit cool 8bit music too when you beat a game-usually with crap pretend fireworks too! We brits know what mental is-comes from being on an island surrounded by vountries you constantly go to war with for thousands of years. Paraniod invention I calls it! Recaptcha-nebraska bye |

|
| Massive waste of R&D. Skating games just do no sell like Hawks games used to(not even the excelent Skate series)so just who's going to pay up for this load of short lived peripheral gimmicky oddness? Skaters? No, they could get a new deck, some cool trucks/wheels, whatever for their real hobby rather than a placcy board without wheels that dumbs their skill down. Casuals and mums? I doubt it when it's over hald the price of a Wii for ONE game(I don't see the board being used in anything lese like the Wii balance board either)and there's a recession going on people! Gamers who like skating games? A few but most of them will still think they'll look both silly and sweaty doing it and give it a wide berth in general while continuing to play Skate at a fraction of the cost of this. Activision do LOVE to find ways of makng games dearer but, here, they shot themselves right in the foot as the price is DAFT. Plus it doesn't even look as good onscreen as Skate when done well. Big fail coming imo. |

crumbdunky commented on: Eight amazing games that prove Wii isn't dead |
|
| Well, I was really up for a Wiinaissance this year but, d, a few of the games didn't live up to our hopes for them(Conduit, Deadly Creatures, Cursed Mountain), some games failed to sell(Madworld, Muramasa,Overkill)and some failed to show up and save us from playing way too much Punchout!!(which, though good, wasn't really worth spending four months on!)-I'm looking at you Crystal Bearers, S&P2 and, obviously, Zelda. Fatal Frame4, of course was taken from us, great reviews and proper survival horror and all, by Ninty themselves refusing to publish it in the west. 2009 promised much on Wii and delivered little in the end. Even DS:Extraction isn't really a game worth buying but is the worlds most perfect rental game as there's little room for playing it through and typically didn't quite do what it could have done. Still, I love the wee white box and am willing to stick with it anot-there's gt to be another Zzzzzzelda sometime, S&P2 and Fragile should show up(and both in the west too) in 2010,RS2 looks amazingly goodile CC:CB should be out in a month or so as well. So, while I agree that there's still good lookins ahead for the Wii I'm not getting over excited til Other M and a few others actually land(should see HVS doing better than the great-in-parts Conduit with their two new games as well)-with NMH2 being the outstanding game for me right now. Just don't expect me to gt too excited this time around after so many minor let downs this past twelve months .Not liking the new SMB either but that's possibly just me-when are Retro getting off their bums and making Dread like we all want? Eh? |

| I keep seeing the phrase"RPG/Shooter hybrid" in relation to Borderlands but, honestly, all I've seen is shooter, shooter, a little gun customisation and some, erm, shooting. Fallout3 was roured in a similar wayled compleely to be anything other than a good RPG withtwo h1t chooting systems and Borderlands looks too far the other way to be called anything like an RPG from all I've seen. Gun customisation and a little levelling up doesn't make an RPG and I'm coubting that theooting will stand up to the likes of MW1 or 2, KZ2 or Halo myself. I like the artstyle but I need to see there's a lot more meat on the bones of what looks like some pre normal shooting if they want my money. |

| Don't worry then stormy! Y3, contrary to what GR say IS coming west-according to Sega-and is widowed for a March2010 release. Every other Yakuza pre Kenzan has gone west so why not Y3 and 4? Sega have let this out even if it wasn't done with a fanfare-trust me Yakuza3 is coming to the US and EU next spring. Fact. Dunno why people want to feel it isn't coming when it clearly is doing. Sadly, they could have done it earlier and more cheaply by utiliaing the region free games on PS3. Just do another production run and sell as imports to the west and release localised translation patches over PSN. The only fly in that ointment is that the western version(which apparently isn't coming even though it clearly is)is having to have the "pimping" game cut out of it for "cultural" reasons-though if sold as an import as I suggested it would have avoided both that cut and lots of the localisation(ie voice actors etc)costs-but, for some odd reason Sega won't return my messages! Anyway-it IS coming out and they said so about two weeks ago which is where I got the date and the news of the cut from too. |

| The Regan/Grby spitting mini game is just a reference to the "2 tribes" video surely and therefore possibly the only thing in the game NOT worthy of GR's ridicule, no? A mate once tried to convince me to play the Devo game and I lasted two minutes before wanting to break it inot tiny pieces! Annoying doesn't cover it yet my friend still thinks it's a lost classic of modern popular culture. He does REALLY like him some Devo though. Eternal Sonata, on the other hand, I remember purely for amazing my issus earlier this year. She'd never even seen a normal jrpg in her life so I can imagine exactly how odd it must have seemed to her on top of all the imagned death bed idiocy. She loves it now, though, and judges every jrpg that comes into the house by using it as a yardstick! She doesn't rate any others btw. |

It was even advertised with a release date in some EU mags! One day we'l;l hear what went on between everyone but if Ninty owned the western rights to publish then I see the buck stopping with Reggie myself! If a man considers AC hardcore enough to carry a whole holiday season on it's own just why would he support a survival horror game? That said I'm a big fan of NMG and am looking forward to NMH:DS AND his two mooted games for the PS3(one multi with Mikami and one PS3 exclusive for G'hoppper-both horrory as well)but thje loss of FF4 to the western Wii aygience was the final straw for a few of my now former Wii owning mates-it was a real watershed moment for me as I realised that Ninty just dopn't care about mature Wii games that they didn't actually make. |

| I think there's bery littl;e argument to be made for SC:C running away from MW2-they're hardly the same kind of thing, now, are they? More than likely they saw just how great Uncharted2 looked and MS said "away with you and polish like a crazy polishing/game developing hybrid machine!" so it could come back next year and make a real fist of challenging NG's opus for best current TPS game. I sau this because MS and Ubi seem really determined not to have this rushed like Gears2 was by Epic/MS so it can really challenge what the PS3 only devs have been doing lately-I've always felt the shorter time available to 360 exclusive devs was [partly to blame for the graophjical shortfall between 360 and PS3 exclusives and now we shall see with both this and AW! And anyway, I'd have run from U2 as well-it did look amazing even back at E3 and if they need more time to reaxch that level then fine-it';s great for all gamers that this comettion is going on! |

All that glitters: A gold farming report
Also Red is right there's a rude majority(it often seems anyway)among MMORPDers that ruin it especially when you're starting out. I've tried a trial on WoW and a couple of others a few times and every single time it was assholes(and not always towards myself)that made me think it just wasn't worth it. Unlike griefers ina FPS(and they can be bad enough) in an MMO where you invest more time inot the character griefing becomes more personal, imo, and therefore just ruder in general. Seriously, I've been ridiculed like mad for just asking what a particular bit of slang meant and life's too short-maybe if you're in at the start of one it's more matey-or maybe when they land in a real way on consoles we'll see a more tolerant crowd(though judging from some of the rudeness I've come avcross on Live , esp, I doubt that somehow!).
Whatever, it's been the MMO layers themselves that have put me off rather than anything like GFs!
