The rise and fall of the mine cart level
Oddly enough, and possibly in a quite unfitting manner, I felt the needcart" myself last year while watching my little lad playing around on Club Penguin on Miniclip. The shame I went through just for that cart game! Created my own little penguin and everything just to race through those mines, tilting and jumping my cart over the obcs and round the corners! The joy!

And there I was thinking I was a lone carting crusader willig to shun COD4, KZ2 and GEars just to hit myself up with that mine shaft action! I was really just expressing my rightful desire, a wish that resides in all true gamers!

Thanks GR and thanks Mr Houghton! You changed it from a dark, bitter secret into something I can proudly bellow from the rooftops! Viva la carts! That pink penguin is no longer a thing tha shames me.

Sexy Poker (Wii): Sexy Poker
T^Hat really is by far the weakest thing I've ever come across in gaming. I don't see any point in the game as it won't appeal to the new Wii user vecause it's "sexy", won't appeal to gamers because it's a crap game, won't appeal to gamblers as even the poker is BS and, not even on the off chance, will pervs be interested in something so tame, lame and "sexy". Even cartoon/Anime percs will find it way too sh1t for their tastes!

Honestly, who is this mess for? That said I guess it's a bout a fiver to buy and cost less to make so it doesn't really matter even if someone made it as a joke or in the hope of strange folk thinking it might make a cool "joke" present for their randy uncle!

Sometimes people just make something with no redeeming quality whatsoever.

Yep Jj-it's looking cool as. Can't wait for more news of his PS3 game either. Suda's a true one off and a little gem the industry should be proud of, imo. You can just feel the joy he has for games in the way he makes them himself.

The Top 7... Outrageously Camp Bad Guys
It's all very well going for the obvious cam baddies like this-but there's far more that slip under the , erm, radar. Ones that you might never see the effeminacy over the buff and bravado.

F'rinstance Radec in KZ2 is really big old fat Visaris talented gimp boy-hell the preoccupation with Nazi and Gestapo chic make the Helghast ALL a little suspect in that respect.

It doesn't stop there. Even the Chimera in Resistance without a hairstyle between them have the camp gene running through their overheating veins!ow do we know this? A big penchant for skin tight leather effect knee length space pants!

I put it to you that evil begets camp begets evil. END OF. I could go on and on but won't.

The bloodiest games you've never played
I can't agree with you guys n the Dark Sector stuff too much. I had the misfortune of playing it on both 360 AND the uber fiddly PS3 sixaxis-glaive-driving version(man-I thought the controls for Lair were weak!)AND as I'd rented it at launch I also beheld the terminal dullness that the epitomy of tacked on multiplayer managed to be with actual opponents! Had the sodded the MP off and spent the cash on a better SP it ould have been saved as some of the takedowns with the gld special powers were cool.

That said, it stole the glaive off Blade2 FFS. BLADE2! I think you understand me.And in that game you could, IIRC, lop off at least seven or eight vampire hoggins inone throw with Blade's glaive! So, a game with pi55 weak MP and a glaive weakler than that in a movie tie in game which sank without trace is one of GR's "favourite" games o? I do NOT believe you and $3.50 sounds about fair to me.

However, kudoringing up the one arcade game that always bothered me a little-Chiller. Funnily enough I NEVER saw anyone actually play it but watchgo through it's demo used to attract a queasy crowd sometimes. TestDDs adds a good question about what kind of umen the game would appeal to though. Thankfully very few if our greasy spoon and bandit fuelled arcade was much to by! It was just called The Arcade for ages but once they brought in a bandit for the first time it became The Monte Carlo! FFS!Good times with the SF cabs though, good times! Plenty of 1942 as well.

Anyway, no. Dark Sector was pants and the public got it right with that one in much the same way that EA got it totally wrong by continuing the trens of Rail shooters on the Wii. EVERYONE wanted a real DS experience and no matter now good and good looking Extraction would be could EVER make up for the fact they made entirely the wrong game for a consle populous starved of a decent TPS survival horror to play since the awesome Wii edition of RE4

And they ignored the fact that if you don't stick "Resident" and "Evil" on your Wii rail shooter it's as good as dead. Then in an act befitting the old EA(or modern Acti) they blamed Wii owners for not buying a game they never wanted in the first place and made it quite clear to EA at the time! Seriously does anyone know anyone who wasn't less interested once the words rail, lightgun and shooter start being used here? Even EA knew it which is why they won't call it a rail shooter but a "guided FP game" or whatever. So why is it the game's fan EA? And why did you then fail to advertise it at all outside of the odd gaming site that 0.007 percent of Wii owners will ever visit?

Sorry, I'm in a bad mood. I HATE Hallowe'en since ours in the UK went all American and trick or treaty. In my day my dad would have made me take ALL the loot back and apologize for behaving like some dirty homeless beggar. What's more the miserable git would have been right. A move back towards "mischeif night" is what's needed in the UK-a move back to stealing people's gates and kicking the wing mirrors off of cars and supergluing EVERYTHING possible while using copious amounts of fireworks. And not US aping collecting door to door dressed in a sheet with a glowing placcy pumkin.

Hey, fine for the States but it just isn't English. We should stop it.

Disney Epic Mickey (Wii): The 11 things you NEED to know about Epic Mickey
Well, usually anything Disney makes me worried and want to run away. Fast.

Have to admit, though, that this looks pretty interesting. Good for the Wii to have something BIG that isn't going to be a Ninty product either-thing is with the normal desire for high fidelity for Disney and their animations I'd have felt they might have wanted to go the HD route either as well as the Wii or instead of.

That said we've seen the Wii do well with heavily drawn characters and backgrounds as diverse as Muramasa and even SMG or Metroid-so an even mire cartoony game might not lack very much in the end though to beat out R&C's latest will be well beyond them. I'm not complaining, mnd, but do think Disney would have wanted to make it look as good as possible.

Ney, must just be a market thing and they couldn't see PS360 gamers playing as much as Wi gamers with it being MM and all-I'm not sure the're right , mind, as if it's a bit hard it might not set the Wii alight while KH always does well on PS doesn't it? Interesting choice and I'm intrigued to see if they made the right one.

Certainly, however, makes a change for a Disney project not to make me queasy!

Tekken 6 (Xbox 360): Tekken 6
Van't agree with SF4 and SC4 being better than NN VR. Not at all-SF2THGR is a better SP ame than SF4 for a start and SF4 is RUINED by those useless focus moves, imo, and don'yt startm me on Sould Calibur 4-after the Darthj , Yoda nd generic crew cut guy from TFU appeared wrecking the whole thing for sales I couldn't take it seriously anymore whatsoever.

VV is the best of the three and yet you think it suffers because it's a new IP? What a crime not already having a fanbase is! I've never heard anything so mental in my life-it's never as if there's not enough people to play with is it? So why is Tekken's fanmbase a bad thing if someone wants to compare BB and T6?

AAAAND BB looks better, has more intriguely balanced fighters(even if the roster is small it's also faultless AND the UK version will be getting more fighters in any case and no doubt they'll be available as DLC in the US at some point as well.

Honestly, I'd pick a new vibrant game in BB over the incredibly overated SF4 any day of the week.THat's without "Kendiots" & spamming hads online!

Ratchet & Clank Future: A Crack in Time (PS3): Ratchet & Clank Future: A Crack in Time
R&C games are a must to pre order for me and have been dince the very first one. The most consistent series in gaming by a mile and vastly underrated.

Hated on by the ignorant for being "kiddy" when they're just genious family entertainment that woprks on a million levels-like, say, the Simpsons does.

Great artstyle, gfx, acting, script, comendy, platforming, shooting, amazing weapons and some of the best rounded chars in gaming. What's not to love about Insomniac's wee gem of a series?

I know this is mooted as the last game, and if so I'll be very damn sad about that, but even if it's so they've iven us a shedload of quality with very few lowpoints and some of the best ads ever back in the day.

I REALLY can't praise these games enough and don't get why more people arenm't like a five year old on Xmas eve the day before release!

Good review too GR-lately you really have started to be one of the more reliable sites(as I've played this great game already and a 9 or 9.3 is a fair score)-fans won't be disappointed and newcomers should hive it a chance

The Top 7... Scariest games you've never played
O've played a few of these and have to say that while "I have no mouth..." is certainly unsettling I wouldn't call it scary-mainly, however, it just depresses me.The Lurking Horror is a quality texty, imo, and really did, at athe time anyway, fuel some nasty umages in my younger mind, some of which were really frightening if I was playing on my own in the wee small hourshe lights off and the sound up in the time honoured way for Horror games(BTW I had it for Amiga and you didn't this but the added sounds really helped make it frightening for me).

Hadn't played the old Arati game-hadn't heard of that really either or Illbleed but I'll give them a try if I can track them down cheaply.

The Dark Eye wasn't that scary at all-maybe it's only don't know Poe that well that it can be a scary of game but, for me, s'ok nuttin bit a humdrum scare provider , imo.

Red Dead Redemption (PS3): Gamers: Grow some facial hair
Well, if it was a proper facial hair comp I'd be in but beards, full and manly beards is where it's at for the hirsute faced among us.

I'm currently at the "polar explorer after three months on the ice" stage right now-I could definitely sculpt a truly awe inspiring 'tache should I really desire but I'm noping to have a "Santa before he went grey" by Xmas and a full blown "viking beserker beard" capable of supporting THREE real plaits!

No pruning or clipping for me! Let the fuzz grow wild and free and fulsome! Birds and mice could nest in mine alredy and I just won't stop-not even for charity(beards are more important than that! Or even to be in RDR(which would be a buzz I'll admit-just not one worth ruining my "facialgrowth regime" for!

Oddly,. however, my beard seems to be multi coloured! Everytjhing is in there:chestnet, white bits, cluey ones, black ones, dark chocolate brown hairs and even the odd blonde and gingerish ones! It's a magical technicolour dreambeard if you ask me. It's fantastic face fuzz fun and with winter coming soon it's hella warm into the bargain.

Good to see Cuncdy's noble effort though-a little contrived for my taste but fine or an amatear! Keep it up and you could graduate to beards and the hall of real men in the future!

Pro Evolution Soccer 2010 (PS3): Pro Evolution Soccer 2010
I think a LOT of people have been way too quick to say Fifa is the winner of this annual batle this time around. For a start it wouldn't be PES if there weren't crap keepers, now would it?

I don't agree with you saying the toning down of the through ball (which worked is if by magic sometimes in 2009 which was a great leveller between players who knew what they were doing and tried to play properly and those who just press triangle every time they get in the other's half! Now it just needs a litle skill and timing like(gasp) footy does in real life! So, yes, more games for you I,m afraid!

Also quite like the fact that dribbling needs more skill this time out as well as it feeling a lot more authentic than this years overrated Fifa. It's easier to make mistakes, bad? No good! Real players mess up ALL the time and I think, after some really long hors testing both out that while it's a close call PES takes it for being most like a real game of football this year.

The rise of Fifa has been a little exaggerated, imo, and though it's improved agin I feel the tweaking Konami have done lends a more authentic air to proceedings than what EA managed.

Surely you won't go far wrong with either game this season-both are brilliant football games(they'll never beat Sensi but there you go!)-though I haven't played either online as of yet and Konami are amazingly still capable of messing that side completely(who could forget the lag and stutter wars of 2008-all us vets bear those scars for life!).

The real downer, so far, and I agre sompletely here-is the worrying lack of pace the speedy players have. It's shocking that SWP can't skin Huddlestone to me and it HAS to change. Surely a patch with the code for players dribbling and sprinting pace isn't beyond us these days?

That apart, though, the feeling of pulling an oppo defense around with your thoughtful, incisive passing and movement is way better on PES than Fifa ever managed-and the same when you're defending. Changing your man and pressuring the ball is more realistic and managable in PES.

So, yeah, I might have agreed with you after playing both for just a short while now, after a lot of games I'd have to say PES is the better game. It'll definitely have more footballers playing it, imo, as it does feel more "real" to me this year.

I can see why people think Fifa's gone past Pro Evo but I just don't think, if that's your opinion, you played enough of both just yet.

18 awesome games that died at retail
Okami is a truly magical and unique game-and Okamiden will be amaz\ing on DS as the stylus/touchy should suit the gameplay eally well even if I'd have LOVED to see a Wand/Motion plus/Natal powered REAL sequel come out soon!

Whay none from this gen though? Valkyria Chronicles would've been a good place to start, imo, or some of the ignored mature Wii games-NMH cicn't get the audience it deserved that's for sure so to only have CTW is a little sad(esp when there are a million good DS games that didn't sell well-Dementium, TWEWY etc, etc).

And no Ico? For shame GR for shame! Shoehrned in a few too many original Xbox games too which flopped because Xbox gamers ONY cared about Halo and SC in those days and you damn well know it! Even today 360 games that aren't shooters struggle as well.

The Top 7... Maddest British old-school games
rxb-I'm surprised there was neither JSW NOR Manic Miner on this "inspired by the "real Retro" featyre from Charlie Brooker's Gameswipe from BBC the other night!

Practically all of this can be pulled back to that TV show and that's no bsad thing when you think of the clever way around lack of 3D Sentinel managed at that time.

Old British C64 and Speccy games are the muts nuts for me as far as retro goes even IF Jet Set Willy was broken in two places and you needed to glitch it twice(and know where to do it too) just to get to halfway through the damn game(just after The Banyan Tree level IIRC-could be wrong it's long time since I allowed this game to ruin my mood!). But even if it was criminally broken it was still hyper mad and imaginative and deserved a place here as a game some more folk would have played.

Even the old £1.99 C64 games could be good AND mad. I remember a rip off version of Paperpboy crossed with NMX bandits type thing which wasincane and you got points for avioding city gents and grannies who would stick unbrellas and walking sticks into your spokes respectively.

You could always rely on a mental celevration screen wit cool 8bit music too when you beat a game-usually with crap pretend fireworks too! We brits know what mental is-comes from being on an island surrounded by vountries you constantly go to war with for thousands of years. Paraniod invention I calls it!
