But man, the animations and lighting look fucking ace. And by some miricle, Naughty Dog have made the grey dull interiors of a cruise ship look interesting.
Good God, I would let Naughty Dog "borrow" my missus for the night just for a go on this. I'd even settle for smelling the booklet...
I love me some Syphon Filter, the best head shot on Sony's little grey box. The only thing that bugs me is how Gabe Logan looks really different in the cut scenes in each game, even back on the PS1.
And RoeTaKa, John Chacon hasn't been Gabe Logan for four games now. I was miffed back in 2004 but James Arnold Taylor has now been doing the voice longer, time to move on?
And Eidetic has developed all of the games in the series, but from Syphon Filter 3 onwards was known as Sony Bend, so it makes no difference if 989 Studios are involved or not.
But a dilemma. Do I pass on this game to spare the feelings the missus, or do I get it, tell her to man up, and for the love of God woman make me a damned sandwich?
I just don't see any improvement between games when it comesto cell shading. When games first started using it the look was indeed fresh and bold, but over time it's been used again and again and has lost It's impact.
Take Borderlands. It looked great as a realistic looking game when it was first announced but was then changed to cell shading. When I played it it looked just like any other cell shaded game, bold lines and colours.
If you take realistic graphics (like the first Darkness game) you get different looks. Take Gears Of War and Uncharted. The same style (realistic) but completely different looking games. I know you could put it down to the art direction but I hope you get what I'm saying.
Like I said, I do have hope. Digital Extremes have described the style as "Graphic Noir" so it could look more interesting. Hopefully It's one of those games where the scrrenshots don't do it justice and it looks better in motion.
I'm with you about the original voice actor, he did a great job, and so did you by not typing "First".
To the point, I'm really torn with this game. I loved the first, hell, I still do, it was (to me) the first truly "Next-Gen" game I got on my PS3 not just graphically, but in scope as well.
I'm not sure about the graphics. I liked the way the first game was realistic but the cell shading just screams "we are just making sure you know that it's a comic adaptation". Cell shading never looks as good to me as realistic looking games but I hope this changes my mind.
I'm also a little worried about Digital Extremes handling it as their own IP's aren't anything groundbreaking. Not saying they're bad, just not great.
I really hope this turns out good. I've been looking forward to this for ages so here's hoping...
I wanted this on PS3 when it first came out on the Wii. I'll probably get it when it goes down in price (or get's a release). I just hope they use the Move to I'ts fullest potential rather than use the exact same motions the Wii uses.
The only thing is that the HD versions somehow look worse. Not graphically before some users start crying, but artistically.
Me and a friend were talking about this earlier, and funny enough he mentioned it might be a custom firmware and I suggested it was people who were grabbing stuff off of the store for free.
I don't see the problem with the lack of hair. You play as him in the Max payne 2 era, he lets himself go a bit and grows a beard, then something bad happens (let's face it, it's Max Payne), he moves to Brazil, grows a 'ZZ Topp' and shaves his head to disguise himself...
GamesRadar reviews are getting shorter and shorter.
What about the minigames and the beat based interlude in some of the levels?
I know you only want to write reviews about the biggest games out at the moment, but people want to hear about other things than Gears Of War 2 and Halo...
