I'm running xp64 (directx 9) so there's no option for that.
The game runs great with the shadows turned off and it doesn't look much worse. Framerate over eye candy any day of the week :D
You can save whenever you want but it also autosaves a lot so you never really have to.
The controls are good, nothing wrong there.
I have quite a high end system (4870x2, quad core @ 3ghz, 4gb ram) and the only way of getting a good framerate (ie above 30fps all the time) is to turn shadows off completely and put the particle quality on low. It's a good game, started off a bit slowly but it's picking up now and I'm starting to really enjoy it, the multiplayer is fun too, I recommend you get it so long as you know for sure your system will cope.
My other computer (2.4ghz dual core with 8800gt and 4gb ram) Drops to around 10fps when it gets hectic and there are a lot of bad guys and buildings coming down.
Not the greatest port but certainly not the worst.
Reviewers take note, these are the things pc gamers want to know :s
"By firing off a series of shotgun shells at a Smoker or a Hunter’s tongue, you may end up doing more harm than good by nicking your teammate instead"
This isn't right, when someone is tongue-tied you can shoot through them at the smoker. Shove them if they're right next to you, shoot through them if they're far away.
These are problems specific to the game itself (except the CTDs), regardless of the system you run it on.
Console games receive patches too. The consumers do the beta testing nowadays and pay for the privilege.
Previous GTA ports HAVE been a bit shabby, HOOfan. Look at all of the issues in san andreas, Water planes won't take off and you can't dive under water unless you have the frame limiter on, silly bugs which could have been fixed with a little play testing, and many people complained of random crashing to desktop on some systems. I heard that vice city had a weird "up/down" mouse sensitivity issue which rendered the game unplayable. I just want to make sure that they've ironed out any bugs before I part with my cash because rockstar are less than forthcoming when it comes to patching their pc games.
I'm just a bit worried after hearing about the abysmal rush job they've done on bully. They're more than happy to throw out a broken game for a quick buck so I just hope they've treat GTA and the PC platform with a bit more respect.
So this is all looking good port-wise?
Previous GTA ports have been pretty shabby. I cancelled my preorder of bully after the few terrible reviews I read, have they taken their time over this one?
