When my girlfriend and I first started dating, one of our largest mutual interests was gaming. MMOs, consoles, even tabletop. Our relationship was never strained, as we have very similar tastes in games. I can understand how games can strain a relationship if it's not enjoyed mutually, but it can also be a vessel by which the relationship can be strengthened. Incidentally, my girlfriend today is my wife of three years, and we're still going strong.

*sigh* Ok, since reading the first page of comments was depressing enough, here: It was a well-thought and thorough review, Mike. I appreciate the facts you addressed, as well as the parallels you drew to similar games, past and future, that I feel have been well-drawn to illustrate the points you're trying to convey about your opinion here. I'm confident that this review confirms my desire to play this game, though I hope I get a little more enjoyment than you seem to have gotten out of it. Been looking forward to this game for a while, and I'm really hoping that even given the shortcomings you've addressed, it will still be the experience I want it to be. All in all, great review.

I'm a casual gamer that kind of degenerated from a hardcore gamer. Back in the day I was the 9 year old kid that couldn't be beat at Mortal Kombat, now I'm the guy that only has time to play Gears of War 2 on Casual due to time and frustration limitations. Huge fan of MMORPGS and shooters, and the occasional RTS. I'm a sergeant in the Army Medical Corps, which is pretty engaging, though it eats a lot of time--time that I could otherwise spend gaming.
