Awesome. MK2 was my favourite. I have many fond memories of this gem. I always wondered about the symbols too but realised it relates to round won. one dragon symbol per round, one MK symbol = ten dragon symbols. problem being the screen can't always display all the symbols. |

Not so much a gameplay design flaw as it is a huge fucking error on developers parts but if it's commonplace to be using wireless controllers these days why do games not automatically pause if the batteries run dry? looking at you AC:Brotherhood and MassEffect2. It defies belief really. |

Not to piss on anyones chips but this came across more like the "amazing fails of GamesRadar and friends". Sorry fellas but I was no where near to belly-laughing through either video. I'm not even sure I cracked a smile that many times. I have a soft spot for Spiderman 'toons of yester-year. And to be honest, when you're fighting guys dressed up in Rhino unitards and goldfish bowls it makes sense to use stupid sound effects. Remember these were cartoons for us as children and not in any way intended for our consumption as adults. If Chris Nolan has taught the world one invaluable lesson it's this: For superhero franchises to genuinely work in this day and age they must be grounded in reality. None of your daft-as-a-brush GreenGoblin/DocOc (what a rediculous name) malarkey with ever escalating levels of ridiculousness. |

There's a terrible piece of editing in Burnout Paradise. Faith No More's most recognised track, Epic, has been chopped and rehashed abonimably, with a line from the first verse repeated twice, once in place of the rediculously offsensive lyric "lay down on it and do it some more". I guess a total disregard of the highway code is enough for Criterion and EA |

^ @ Limbo: One word. Persevere. I did the same. I could only play about half a chapter or so at a time before my nerves stopped me from playing effectively and I'd have to take a break. I obviously got side-tracked on other games mid play through (around chapter 8 I think) and it took me 6 months to pick it up again. but once I did I OD'd on it and played it through twice more after completion. I still intend to go back and play it again too. DS was my game of the year. Looking at what's been revealed for DS2 I can't see the sequel being anything better than twice as good in all aspects. Can. Not. Wait! |

9 half-assed game character designs |

I know I've already posted on this but... Starkiller's Vader mask is based off the Sith skin he acquires at the end of the game after fighting Vader. This mask is based off Boushh's mask (Leia wears this bounty hunter's uniform in RotJ). Therefore if GR have beef with the design their complaint really should read "...it’s just Vader with Boushh’s helmet" and I don't think the devs at Lucasarts would argue. It's quite blatent, probably intentional, but it still looks cool! |

Good to see a partial retraction at least. This is the problem with critics of gaming, they just don't play games! Ebert, Johnson, Titchmarsh, they misinform average non-gaming joe to think gamers are going out in the real world to maim and kill. i just want to be left in peace to be entertained, whether they consider it art or not. The same goes for the likes of the BBFC (who've had my back up on more than one occasion in recent history). the lords and ladies who make the decisions on classification (i'm super cereal here: LORDS AND FRIGGIN' LADIES) don't play games and don't understand. it's time younger people were brought in to evaluate the medium. Failing that i'm going all hitler and burning every Mauve Binchy/Alister MacLean novel i can find, see how the fogies like that! |

Why Alan Wake has the best video game story-telling in years |
|
|
AWKM, I read the pretentious CriticalSmack page about Alan Wake where the self-contained 'Admin' keeps his pages free from postings by refusing to let anyone sign up and ridicule his empty and foundationless comments. These arguments aren't backed up by fact either. It's going back to the ol' Cornflake arguement above. While I see your minute reasoning with SotC, I don't know HeavyRain (ta for the spoilers) and quite frankly couldn't care less whether cutting off a virtual finger works first, second or miller time. It's a game and performing a gesture or strenulously holding onto R1 (it hurt? really?) doesn't relate to a real world action. CriticalSmackHead had a pop as the visuals in AW. They're about on par with HR from the vids I've seen (no one likes pointy boobs or butts - I prefer Mrs Garrisons tits! URgh) Judging by your comment "the screen shot of the manuscript" implies that you haven't played AW, correct me if I'm wrong. Perhaps you should, listen to the monologue, read the manuscript and then comment on what grade the writing is. it may not be the best but it's far from the worst. Game designer eh? keep reaching for those stars kid. there aint many to go around and your unfounded hatred of the Wake doesn't bode too well for your success. |

Heavy Rain's BIG plot-holes |
|
|
@crumbdunky well, seems like this article has pushed someone's buttons. take a pill. I really don't see what your problem is. the game is evidently full of plot holes. it's admirable that QD have tried to do something new but they've failed. if you're going to develop a game that has minimal input in terms of controls you can't have a flawed story arch as that's what the emphasis is then placed upon. re-read the article - especially the opening paragraph. here: "...sweep aside the surface gloss of stunning looks and moving score and Heavy Rain’s plot is a shambles.... A game whose sole purpose is serious storytelling is a very different fish to the likes of Gears of War, and crap storytelling here is like a CoD game with crap shooting mechanics. A CoD game which claimed to change shooting mechanics for the better." also take a look at previous GR articles like "Modern Warfare 2's plot holes" and you'll see it's not just HR that's come in for flak. at least you actually get to 'play' MW unlike the pitiful excuse for QTE's that HR employs. i have to agree with skyguy343 except i'd prefer it if you didn't go to ign in case i run into you there. go to gamespot instead. they'd love you over there.
