The secret shops of Akihabara
Interesting article. I managed to miss all of these places when I was there, unfortunately. Although I did find the bit in the last picture. Got my iPod there, as I wanted a really Japanese souvenir.

Modern Warfare 2 (Xbox 360): Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 review
Cyberninja- Well, the reviewer thinks it's great, and worth a 10, but he's finished it. I think the rest of us should reserve judgement until playing it. Until that time I will assume the GR staff have enough journalistic integrity to be able to ignore the "hype train" and score games fairly and accurately.

ChristianWitzel- I would suggest that the reviewer comparing the game to Fallout 3 and stating the difference between the two seems to indicate that he is aware that Borderlands is not Fallout 3. I could be wrong, of course.

FIFA 10 (PS3): FIFA 10
Whether FIFA is indeed the game of choice for gardening implements or not, everyone is of course intitled to their own opinion, whether well reasoned or not. Critical consensus seems to suggest that FIFA is now the more realistic in playstyle and better for that.

This seems to be the only review to point out the flaws of the game. It was irritating on FIFA 09 to be fighting out for the title with West Ham and Newcastle, especially considering where Newcastle are now. I'll still get it, of course. I can barely remember being a PES man before, 09 was so good.

Excellent review.

Left 4 Dead 2 (Xbox 360): Still no PS3 interest from Valve
I have a PS3, and I'm not getting the same experience. I'd rather have the option of the "stepchild" version than nothing. The Orange Box was fine on PS3. I didn't like HL2, but I got to experience Portal, which I wouldn't have done otherwise.

A 7 is a positive score. So is a 9. A seven is a less positive score, but it remains a positive one, thus fitting with your archery analogy. I don't wished to lumped in with "all you people" in seeing people and review scores as snowflakes, because it's an absurd idea. What does it matter to me? I didn't agree with your opinion, so I felt it would be prudent for me to join the discussion. I don't have a personal vendetta against anyone; I just think competent reviewers should be free to give a game the score they deserve without being vilified or branded an irrelevance. Time for me to move on, I think. It's nice to see a discussion of a kind here now, though.

Sorry, me again. Just read Howetzer's reply, and the fact that a review does not conform exactly to other people's does not in the least bit make it unreliable or irrelevant. I believe that all the reviews in question, including this one, have been positive. In this case, Mikel found that the game is affected too much by its flaws to be scored higher than a 7. As Mikel I know from Talkradar is someone who has played a ridiculous amount of sandbox games, it's not like he doesn't know what he is talking about. I think it's very insulting to declare the review section of a website worthless based on an intelligent, explained assessment.

The UK magazine PSW giving Lair 8/10, for instance, raises an eyebrow, because it is a positive appraisal of a game panned by the rest of the industry, without if I recall correctly any account for the disparity. That is not the situation here.

Cripes, that's a lot of replies. I'm pleased that reviewers are willing to give their honest evaluation of a game regardless of how easy it would be to follow the herd. Please keep up the good work, Mr. Reparaz.

Absurd genius. Before I got into TalkRadar, this site was something I remembered occasionally. Now, I recognise the writers and avidly read all of their output almost daily. Bravo.

Dynasty Warriors: Gundam 2 (PS3): Dynasty Warriors: Gundam 2
The reviewer gave their honest professional opinion on a game he objectively played. It's extremely strong to say "Do not listen to this review at all because most of it is wrong." If someone has issues with a game, that's fine. If someone wants a Gundam game, who's to say they can't buy or enjoy this game. You disagree? Good for you, but the point of a reviewer is to analyse the game and tell you if it does things well, or if it's in this case, repetitive. That doesn't necessarily entail that no-one will derive enjoyment from the game, just that it isn't well designed in the opinion of Mr. Bramble.

A good game and a good Gundam game are not necessarily the same thing. To say it has to be perfect or terrible with no middle ground is simplistic. A 4 is not a worthless score.

A typical day in my hectic lifestyle involves me getting up at dawn and moving around to stop freezing to death and to alleviate the irritation for the tick and flea bites, before breaking into a house for food. From there, I tend to build an effigy of Sackboy in the parkout of litter and burn it to appease the Gods of Life, The Universe And Gaming Paraphernalia
