HeadShot! is definitely needed Firaga. Other UT(DotA) sounds are iconic to me too, like Double Kill! Godlike! and M-M-M-Monster Kill!

In a lot of the screen shots, it looks as though the player is on foot. Even at level one there should be a way to ride around on a speeder, tauntaun,hover car, or something. Not only is it Star Wars, but who wants to run around for miles in anonther MMO.

That was always an issue for me, running around for ever...

- Holy Crap! I almost forgot about Crusader: No Remorse! I loved the game play in that one, and I can't think of any game like it. Origin was the greatest back in the day, someone reanimate it's corpse, please!

- Origin needs a resurrection. When I was a kid, Origin was the top dog video games company, and they made a bunch of games that I will always remember fondly. Who could ever forget Wing commander? I still daydream about my favorite RPG of all time Ultima VII. This world definitely needs another Privateer game, ASAP!

Oh, you know I'm gonna rant and rave about this weeks question...
- Everyone is still waiting for a proper successor to X-Com, right? I really hope the Take-Two guys can make one.
- Also, I would love a really good remake of Bullfrog's Syndicate.
- How about another Ultima Underworld? Those games were my favorite back in the day.
- Bring back Tex Murphy.

When I die in the game, does my bot go to transformers heaven? RotF was the worst movie I've seen in a long time. I'm pretty sure it'll be remembered by future film historians as one of the most expensive pieces of juvenile garbage ever to grace the silver screen. The game, regardless of how good it is, won't be getting a bloody red cent out of my pockets.

Great article. Most of those games were important to me as I grew up, especially Dragon's Lair, Gauntlet, MK, and SF2. Virua fighter and DDR not so much, but you make their impact obvious, since I loved Tekken, and played my share of Rock Band. Nostalgia is a cruel mistress: I miss the days when arcades were the ultimate game havens.

I appreciate the response, but I disagree whole-heartedly with your stance on Duke. I felt when Duke was quoting some of my favorite action movies, that he was paying homage to the same kind of favorites that I loved. The way that 3d Realms appropriated the cream of the badass film genres then funneled it into this badass character for me to play, was exactly what I didn't know I looking for at the time. I felt connected with Duke because we both loved Bruce Campbell and They Live. I've missed Duke ever since, and while I agree the Forever is a complete debacle, and might not have lived up to the original, I get a tad miffed when I hear a bunch of loud noise from the younger gen.

BTW it's Master Leep, a video game reference that I'm sure a 3D Realms heckler would miss out on.

Duke Nukem 3D was one of the best shooters ever. Multi-player Duke is still almost unparalleled in the FPS strategy department. OP4 deathmatch and SW came pretty close, but I haven't played any modern game that embraces 1v1 or low player FFA deathmatch like Duke did. Dissing Duke is a weak route, don't be that guy.

Plus, slicing dudes in half vertically or horizontally is awesome! I love doing wall sprint into jump into air dodge, glide then targeting helicopter and blowing it away with missile launcher... custom combo! plus it goes into slight bullet times when you target or hit your skill switch button... for additional visual oomph!

I am loving this article.. JeffK, I grew up with very similar video game standards. I remember getting Kings Quest I on cartridge for the family's new IBM PCjr. Ever since then I was hooked on sierra games. I too always got a new sierra game for Christmas or birthday presents, and I loved them. All of that plus the fact that the LSL series was perfect for an adolescent boy to misinterpret sex via computer game.... How many kids get that these days..

I laughed many times throughout. I grew up in the eighties, and used to think many of these cliched covers were awesome. It was extremely interesting to re-examine these images after all this time. I still have a taste for some of this surreal eighties flavor: the MagMax and Sabotuer II art is good enough for wall space.

I don't hate any of those games, I don't really hate games at all. If I'm not having fun, I don't play them, and an un-played game is un-hated. If you forced me at gunpoint to watch or play some of these until I went mad, I might develop a hate for you as opposed to the game. I read this as baiting people. It's like you're trying really hard to shock readers who might have a degree of interest in these games, which are all arguably of above-average quality. Was that guy forced to play the Sims until he hated it? Did that other dude hate Rock Band because someone forced him to watch it for hours? People! Get a fucking Life.

WhyTF cant souped up rigs own these console games? I'm having trouble getting great FPS in GTAIV, and i was thinking that maybe Saints Row 2 would run well on an SLI'd Ge80 dual 3 ghz. Are the Devs really ironing out the code for the PC ports?
