Calling it right now...Game of the Year for 2011!

Because you know, my accurate prediction has everything to do with my amazing ability to see the future and has nothing to do with the fact that it's likely the most obvious choice.

What can I say, it's a gift I suppose. :-)

Didn't notice that to be honest, but I rarely post on GamesRadar so that's part of my problem. :)

@tymillz102

Actually, I am pissed about this. I love CoD, but I love Battlefield more, and the willingness of CoD players is part of what is allowing this hike in price of DLC map packs to take place!

The minute Activision started charging $15/map pack is the minute I stopped buying them, they helped set this in motion! I spoke with my wallet by refusing to pay that price, but as I already knew it would have no effect because most people didn't seem to care or those that did and bitched just bought them anyway.

Now EA can set the $15 price point for Battlefield DLC maps because it's obvious it was succesfull for Activision. The fans ate it up like candy and didn't care enough. Now with EA on board with this price point start looking at this as the new standard price.

Lucky for me I'm getting Battlefield 3 day one so this will be free, but I won't pay that price for future map packs. The Vietnam expansion for Bad Company 2 included more than new maps, it included new weapons and vehicles and it was an entirely different setting that didn't re-use levels from the single player and rework them for multiplayer.

I still didn't like that price but it was a bit more acceptable for what was included and they don't spit them out every few months. I just don't like the way everything is heading towards micro-transactions (looking your way Gears 3) these days. I'm fine with additional content after release, but these trivial things use to be unlockables not so long ago and now they are over priced DLC.

Until people start to speak with their wallets publishers will keep doing this and constantly increase the price. But let's face it, most gamers are like sheep and will eat this stuff up and there's nothing we can do about it it seems.

I've been a fan of EGM since the early days before I even considered myself to be a hardcore gamer. Of all the gaming magazine's I've read and have subscribed to, EGM was the magazine that I trusted above all the other competition. I'm deeply saddened to lose something that's been such a big part of my life since I was a child.

Not only will I miss EGM, but to lose 1UPs podcasts is an even harder blow to take. As I've grown in age I personally know fewer and fewer people that are interested in gaming, and when I listened to the podcasts (particularly 1UP Yours) or watched the 1UP Show it instilled a sense of nostalgia from my early childhood that very few things do. It remimded me of the utter enjoyment I had just talking about games and what was to come in the year(s) ahead with a group of close friends.

While I have no doubt the talented individuals from EGM will move on to bigger and better things it's a shame it had to end the way it did. I hope the EGM staff gets back on their feet as quickly as possible. For anyone to loose their job is an unfortunate circumstance especially during our current economic hardship.

Yeah but even though I love Gears 1 & 2, it's just more of the same with some added functionality. Save for the whorde mode anyway, and don't even get me started on the train wreck that is multiplayer. They needed to fix a lot of things before ever putting out a new map pack!!

Oops, I meant to say clicked.

By the way, to all of those that did not buy any of EA's new IP's this year, don't even complain if they go back to crappy games next year! IMO your right to complain is hereby forfeit!!

Thanks a lot!

P.S.
Mirror's Edge and Dead Space are awesome games!

About Me
I'm a 27 year old part time student full time worker. I didn't get into gaming until the N64 and Dreamcast era although I did dabble in games before then, it's just I prefered to play outside with friends as a child. I guess you can say I became a hardcore gamer really around the time Halo/Fable came out and I purchased my Xbox.
