Man, I always wanted to play those Bethesda Terminator games but the 286 I was rocking at the time just couldn't cut it. (Look it up, kids, that previous sentence does make sense.)

Robocop Versus Terminator and the Terminator Genesis games were both awesome in their own ways. If licensing fees hadn't made the prospect unviable, I'd be up there trying to do a petition to get all those games on virtual console. The Genesis Terminator game is about four levels, though. But great graphics for the system. Had a very Euro feel.
2 years, 9 months ago Batman’s Best and Worst Games
JohnnyFirebird is gay. It's true.

I kind of liked the Batman game for the SNES, and the Batman game coming out for the Genesis was a long time coming... looked like it would be import only. I saw pictures of it in Video Games & Computer Entertainment magazine and watched them longingly.

Then I played it. It was alright.

I'm gonna hazard a guess that most of the time I'm a damsel. Or, at least, a gamer who loves games but isn't actually good at them.
2 years, 9 months ago LucasArts versus Sierra: Part One
If you're going to give Maniac Mansion points for advancing the genre, then you should be doing the same to Manhunter. It's style of room-based puzzle solving would be later emulated by games like Myst, especially since it was (almost completely) parser free, with a single cursor used for context-sensitive action. Plus the Manhunter games were awesome.
2 years, 9 months ago Crucified: Big games murdered by the critics
I've actually paid money for Driv3r twice... the first copy of my game got lost. But, I dunno, I... I kinda liked it.

The graphics were much better than any other game out at the time, and the on foot sections were generally pretty easy. The driving, when it didn't glitch out, was nicely weighted and more on the drift side - it's no surprise that GTA IV takes this driving physics model lock stock and barrel.

It also took the create-a-movie director mode, too, something which was sadly removed from Driver Parallel Lines.

The Getaway suffered from similar problems, though the writing was at least sharper in this series. Driv3r ranks as having some of the worst cutscenes of a big budget game that I've ever seen. Long, gabby, boring. Good voice talent rambling on about a dull plot no one, even the writers, cares about.

Still, I've got my money's worth out of Driv3r. Don't regret buying it.

Here's hoping the PS3 will get a Getaway... one day.
2 years, 9 months ago Fan Art versus Official Art
Some of the works were more inately interesting than others; the Mario painting is aesthetically appealing, while the Half-Life 2 art is well drawn, professional, and made with an obvious respect for the series.

The Faith-from-Mirror's-Edge stuff, I guess, is subjective. I find the original faith uglier and more appealing; the youthful, hyperbreasted one looks generic. Even then, the character isn't unique.

Dead Fantasy, well, I can respect the art that does it, but these giant battles... I can't follow them. I lose interest after about the first minute. There's no sense of physics, space, or consequence to their actions! Cool, they hit the DOA girls with a major attack, but so what? They can just dust themselves off and continue...

...now, imagine a Bushido Blade video. Way cooler. Much bloodier. Only fifteen seconds long.
2 years, 9 months ago 33 iPhone games for REAL gamers
Even if it didn't get the recommendation, I'm finding it hard to resist the pull of getting a Katamari game for that cheap. Then again, I was a doofus and bought Mega Man 2 for my old cellphone.

I'm running these on an iPod Touch though, no cool iPhone for me. I can tape my cell phone to the iPod and then, basically, have an iphone, but then it just looks sad.

The platform definitely needs more RPGs! And old Sierra games!

I notice that the woman behind the guy on the C64 Renegade cover is none other than Tina Turner!
2 years, 9 months ago Who was your first gaming crush?
@DawgsFan117, I think to some degree I've "grown out of it", but yeah, during my preteen years I was much more comfortable dealing with my sexuality by proxy of fictional characters. It was a lot less daunting to find someone fictional attractive than to openly admit, yep, I like a dude. So as fictional characters helped me come to terms with with it, I have some lingering attachment to them. As long as I don't think I can only date someone with muscles the size of watermelons due to this, I think I'm okay. So, yeah, find all the fictional characters attractive that you want. It's fine.

Just find real people cute too. And, you know, don't marry Sonic.
2 years, 9 months ago Who was your first gaming crush?
My first real gaming crush? I was a rush of hormones back in the 16 bit days, and, well, pretty much any sweaty bodybuilder in a thong or loincloth would work for me (see: giants at the end of the first stage of Golden Axe, or Gillian Thunderhead) but the only one that I actually wrote lurid, detailed fan fiction about was everyone's favorite Russian, Zangief. Maybe it was the well-packed red briefs. The chest hair. Or the clue that he disliked "pretty girls". But in my stories, he was rescuing my teenage self from a life of tedium to forever be by his big, burly side. Current gaming crush? Dom from Gears of War (I hear he's single now) and, yeah, Rufus.

About Me
Generally, you could describe me as a charming, handsome detective that solves crimes. Zany crimes. Yet I balance that with being a big gaming nerd, working at a post-production house in Burbank, California, trying to go outside and meet people at least once a month, and... I dunno... sleeping? I sleep sometimes. I don't HATE that much. Except Michael Bay movies. I get killed by the first goomba in Super Mario Brothers about 25% of the time. Just can't get a hang of Mario's jumping. I was a Sega kid.
