Bah, The Neverhood wasn't last, I just didn't see Okami, still a excellent article and a reminder that we should support the games/developers that have earned it the most.
I couldn't love The Neverhood anymore. I make it a point to replay that game once a year. It is without a doubt my favorite point and click adventure game. Great characters, genuinely funny and fantastic puzzles.
Great article, especially for saving The Neverhood for last.
Just spent like 8 or so hours with the game and I definitely can see where the 8 comes from. The walking is easily the most boring part of any game, and this game has a lot of it. Fortunately vehicles come into play pretty soon and it isn't as bad.
If you really like MMOs like WoW this game will appeal a lot to you, people who like Westernized RPGs that focus more on combat are also a good audience.
Gunplay is mostly solid, though I still love VATS. The RPG elements are pretty light, level up, get more health, skill points, etc. The only strategic element that really comes in is the distribution of your skill points and the effects you focus your character on. Similar to WoW talent trees but a little bit simplified.
I'm pretty addicted already and I did enjoy WoW for a time so I am skewed to like this game more than I probably should but it's still pretty fun when it all boils down.
I totally get what you're saying, any time a game series has released so many titles it's hard not to find it getting more and more stale.
Competition is the best part of this, I personally don't believe PD would never have even given cosmetic damage a chance were it not for the Forza series. Also, let's hope GT seriously beefs up the online components, they have a lot of room to grow in that regard.
They are however resting on the piss poor demo that was Prologue, until they deliver a proper game this generation all their talk is for nothing.
Turn 10 are seriously one of the most cocky developers I can remember recently. That's a turn off for me, especially when their rivals keep shut and just let them run their mouths.
The Forza community is amazing and their create features bring a lot to a very well trodden genre.
@Chris, the PSP Gran Turismo scores are mainly based upon it's lack of a proper career mode, which was the goal of the developer; bite-sized Gran Turismo. Forza 3 definitely looks very good, but it's about taste. Some people don't care about licensed cars, some thirst for all the manufacturers and the latest models and concepts. Some demand hyper-realism, some like easy scalability and a more arcade tone. Choice is good and since both are going to be on the market who cares.
Saying that GT is resting on its name is quite a statement because that's exactly what PD doesn't work tireless hours to do.
Just popped this in, and I'm really digging the whole feel. Have to say though after just playing a bit of Uncharted 2 I don't know how any game can contend with it's opening, seriously it blew my mind like a dozen times. Like, my jaw was wide open the entire time, well, maybe when I was't grinning ear to ear.
Hopefully both do extremely well, they both deserve it in different ways.
I think you probably missed the greatest up and coming development studio, Media Molecule. They're incredibly small but were still able to make the amazing LittleBigPlanet. I agree with pretty much all the studios mentioned but this list is missing its best entry.
I never really planned to play ODST, but I may give it a rent; at least to play a bit of firefight and speed through the campaign to see what's going on.
Halo:CE is the only Halo that I think deserves its recognition, but hopefully Reach can recapture the great feel that the first had.
This is definitely my most anticipated fall release with the new Ratchet as a close second. Hopefully the online community builds up nicely and the game gets alot of post-release support.
Well I'm sold! All I needed for this game to ge good, but hearing about how rich the game is for a handheld title seals the deal. I love GT and this shall by the perfect portable version for me.
Just a little bit of info, this PSP adds bluetooth, and in turn allows the use of bluetooth mics. Not a huge feature, but something NO other psp has, so it's not just "slidy slidy". It's improved all around, and for people who do not have a psp, this is definately a solid purchase.
I definately agree that the visuals get too hectic, but I bought this on impulse after watching a video and I couldn't bee happier with my purchase. It's old and new school, and has a great soundtrack and presentation. This is to breakout as Pacman Championship edition is to Pacman, awesome.
For those who want BC, Sony just stated that it's "off the table" as in no NEW PS3s will have it out of the box via hardware ala 60gb and 20gbs.
Interestingly, they've patented a way for all PS3's to emulate a PS2. So if you want to play PS2 games you may have to wait for a firmware update, but I wouldn't wait forever you'll be missing out on fantastic PS3 games.
There's a hundred dollar add-on you can get though... a PS2.
They've never included HD cables of any kind, which is incredibly stupid when you have a blu-ray player built in!
That actually reminds me, all new Elites, and possibly cores don't have any HD cables either, I remember reading that they just started to remove the composite/component cables and just have composite cables.
I just figured the few PC titles weren't worth mentioning since they're already dirt cheap, and were pretty much ignored by retailers across the board.
Plus, I was trying to weigh the overall value all of the discounts:
-$30 Console game > -$5 PC game
@superjw701: Thanks for pointing those out. I fixed them, and just to be on the safe side double-checked all the feathers against their respective maps. I found that the map for CR5 was also wrong and, more embarrassingly, the location of SP3 was wrong on the large map. I've updated the small map images for Venice and the San Polo district, but the large ones will take a little longer.
I'd like to thank everyone for their patience and apologize for any inconvenience this has caused. Thanks also to iahtebrandon and superjw701 for pointing out specific errors - that was a big help.
@iahtebrandon: You're absolutely right; thanks for pointing out the errors. Regrettably, these things sometimes happen when we're working with lots of similarly named, similar-looking images, but I've updated SP7, CS3 and CS7 with the correct map images. If you (or anyone else) see any other errors, please leave a comment or message me directly.
@newbie1511: Thanks for pointing that out. I'll check the video again today; it's possible I marked something down wrong, and if I did, then I'll post a fix.
EDIT: I found the problem - the fourth step (move the fifth and first rings right 5 times) should actually be to move them LEFT five times. Sorry about that. I'll change it in the text. Hope that's not too late to help.
@raist: I think that one becomes accessible when you renovate the mines. The entrance is on the north side of the outer walls, behind where the villa is.
@lnksmartt: We're working on it. Our hidden-glyphs guide, with puzzle solutions, should be up tomorrow. Your patience is appreciated.
