Halo 3 (Xbox 360): Radio 1 goes Big on Gaming Weekend
To be honest they should probably have done something other than 'Best Game Ever'. Its been done to death by every game website out there, so the majority of gamers will already have seen any number of these things.

A feature exploring the medium as a hobby, an art form etc would have been better, even bringing up the positive finacial aspects, especially with the current economic situation. Gaming is finally shedding this nerdy stereotype and having a big poll on favourite games ever is only going to drag it back up.

I can aprrectiate that Chris Moyles is both popular and influential, what I don't understand is why.

As for him being a gamer I wouldn't know, as you may have guessed I'm not the biggest fan of his show. Regardless he wasn't referenced in the article anyway, my mention of him was in answer to mattface's question above my comment.

"One of the biggest criticisms of the first movie-based Transformer games was the lack of any sort of online gameplay."

A mate of mine bought the first one and when I tried to play the game my biggest criticism wasn't that it lacked online multiplayer. It was the fact that the game sucked balls on every level imaginable, most notably the piss poor controls and the instantly redundant gameplay.

The potential is there it just needs time to be made into a good game based on Transformers as opposed to a really wank tie-in.

It may be for D.W. fans but the biggest issue is that the whole series hasn't changed since the first game on the PS2. It was wank then and however many years down the line nothing's changed, it's still very wank.

A Darwinian approach would be fitting here, 'evolve or die' that sort of thing, but then again Miss Croft always seems to get away with it so why shouldn't Dynasty Warriors try?

10 simple steps to being a better videogame bad guy
One of the more entertaining enemy AI routines in MOH games was that the enemies always did use unmanned guns to the extent that they would abandon their cover, charge across open ground and take up the exact same position that their comrade did.

All you needed was an accurate rifle and once you'd aimed your first shot you could just stand perfectly still and pick off the entire enemy unit as each one took over the gun. Genius.

I bought this for the 360 and only suffered from one major issue which was a corrupted save file.

Whether this was an in game issue or the fact that the disc got damaged I don't know, but I got the disc cleaned and afterwards the game worked fine. Although the particular file did remain unloadable.

Either way it didn't affect me too badly as with all sandbox games I always keep two save files and 'leapfrog' them as I go along.

The Tenchu series is in serious need of an overhaul methinks.

I've always enjoyed them but they were never very fluid. Having to stop to aim the grappling hook became really annoying when a guard than shivs you in the back causing you to fly through the air.

The combat was always a bitch as well especially with the bosses as there was no way of stealthing them. Oni-fucking-kage springs to mind.

If Resi 4 could do it then why not Tenchu? I live in hope.

I recently bought Army of Two as I was looking for some co-op games to play with my mates and despite the fact it received far less than rave reviews it's actually quite a lot of fun.

The reason for this is simple....there are no games that are bad when you're playing with a friend. And come on, the game has a button so you can slap you're mate round the head if he upsets you. Classic.

Why do licensed kiddie games suck?
I think some of the problem is due to the advances in gaming hardware. During the 2D gaming era there were serious limits to how complicated you could make a game. The difference back then between kiddie and adult was the source material. I.e. Shinobi was an 'adult' game whereas 'Ducktale' was a kids game but due to the 2D factor they were ultimately quite similar to play.

Once 3D gaming arrived and gameplay variety increased we became much more discerning. Maybe the answer to the 'Kiddie Question' is to go back to 2D games. This would give those gamers who want a 2D rennaisance something to chew on and these games could be made insanely good looking with modern tech.

Tbh I didn't really see this setting the world alight. RTS' for the most part belong on the PC.

With regards to the points about lack of tactical potential i've always preferred games that offer a limited number of units at the start as they force a tactical approach. Base building invariably leads to turtling, followed by mass attacks which are often scuppered by your units being completely retarded. Bring on DoW 2 thats what I say.

If the game is as polished as the review says then I'd say that 800MS points sounds like a bargain. Most games on XBLA tend to cost 1200.

And $10 (7 quid to me) is hardly that much to ask for 5 hours of gameplay. Many full priced retail games clock in at only a couple more hours than that for four or more times the price.

Might have to check this out.

How Metacritic rules the games industry
@ skyguy343

FANBOOOOOOOOOOOOOY, just kidding. I really like watching Yahtzee's reviews and it is true he never flinches from bashing a game. However I rarely use his reviews to decide whether or not I'll buy a game as he has slated a number of games that I love.

For the most part even if a game is technically bad, if you approach it expecting it to be enjoyable it very often will be. If you have been following a game's development and buildup and have been looking forward to it then you are much more likely to overlook any flaws it has. Farcry 2 is the perfect example of this as it was probably my most anticipated game of last year. While it wasn't as good as I thought it would be it still amazed me and I loved it from start to finish.

@ cart00n
"Uh, a 5 is STILL the average score in the eyes of critics - it is only the READERS mistakenly assuming that anything under an 8 means the game sucks".

That's not really true is it? The 10/10 review system has effectively made 7 the average score.

If my memory serves me Gamesradar did a feature recently about the worst games that scored a 7, suggesting to me that 7 is the standard by which a half decent game is judged.
Also on Metacritic if a games score is below 70 then it falls into the lesser category..

Say what you want about the READERS making these assumptions but the evidence to the contrary is there to see.

To be honest I find the use of the review system to be pretty flawed. I personally can't come up with a better way of judging the quality of a game but as seen as the current system is so established then it should at least be used sensibly, i.e. on an out of 10 system 5 should be average as opposed to 7. If a game doesn't get over a 7 its relegated to obscurity.

Also Metacritic sucks balls. Soemthing I've noticed is that higher profile games get more reviews posted hence evening out the score should there be one or two that are less than flattering.

I really enjoyed Sniper Elite. As mentioned pulling off a brilliant shot was ultra satisfying and if you could time your shot to an artillery blast then the other enemies wouldn't hear it, hard to do but it felt like a real achievement.

It also had a coop mode which worked really well. Getting both players into good positions and picking off guards at the smae time was quality.

Definitely a game that could do with a sequel. Next-gen sniping, with explosive headshots would be awesome.

Also colour me cynical (what a pun) but surely the whole black and white thing will make it really difficult to distiguish between which parts of the level are interactive and which parts aren't?

Either way I don't really care too much as this game is on the Wii so I can guarantee I won't play it. I do how ever get the impression that this is possibly getting more hype than it deserves simply because its a Wii game thats not aimed at your little sister.

I'm rather dissapointed to hear that there is no alternate fire button in Killzone 2. For me thats what made the first game so enjoyable. More or less every weapon had a secondary fire, the Helghast rifle had a shotgun on the bottom of it, now that was fucking entertaining to use.
I wonder if they kept the Squad Cannon from the original. That remains to this day my favourite videogame weapon ever.

I am going to refrain from any kind of hate spiel as I am entirely neutral towards the consoles and really enjoy seeing good games being developed even if it is for a console I don't own. Well except for the Wii obviously, chuffing hate that little white box.

Yet Street Fighter 4 makes the front page and that game, of course, is the very epitome of change and innovation, ;-).

Another thing. How was Starcraft on the first page but DOW2 was halfway through the countdown(/up)? Maybe its just me but DOW is looking to actually move the RTS genre in a new and interesting direction whereas Starcraft seems to be offering more of the same, albeit much shinier. Starcraft was always the most blantant rip off of the 40K universe anyway.
