Yep, those old screens are from a previous iteration of the game that was shown off a good while back. Metro 2033 was 're-announced' in October, with this new, overhauled version. So ignore anything you see or hear about the the game that dates from before this report.
And Metalgatesolid: Sorry, but there's no PS3 version at the moment. It's PC and 360 only right now I'm afraid. We'll let you know if that changes though.
There are some cracking title ideas here. A few of you guys have already 'shopped some up and posted them in the forum (http://tinyurl.com/ybuvqcd), but we want to see more of this greatness. Head over there and get involved!
CatrParrot: Far from it. Done right they just give you asymmetric gameplay experiences. Some things you can see/do as good/bad, you can't as the opposite. And sometimes the moral highground is nowhere near as instantly profitable as screwing someone over for a quick buck. Fable II does this, as does Fallout 3, and Epic Mickey looks to be going the same way.
I'm with you on the soundtrack. Between the smokey, jazzy Vangelis-style tunes and the Tron-vision of the VISR, it's like being in '80s sci-fi movie heaven.
Yeah, when allowed to let rip on the right character Mike Patton is amazing. And you're right, Diesel is excellent in the Riddick games. But then he is a genuinely passionate gamer and pretty much created the character. We need more of his sort doing this stuff.
re: the omissions. This list is of the games coming out in EARLY 2010. Max Payne 3 and The Last Guardian are currently only down for some time next year, and to be honest we'd be very surprised to see either of them hit during the period covered by this article. Sorry guys, but it's just probably not going to happen.
As for Mass Effect 2, yeah, we just clean forgot that one. Consider this its entry.
kc2: All being well, we should be getting a proper look at Hello's first game some time next week. We already really like what we've heard, and we'll fill you in on all the details as soon as we can.
Pr0fesserCha0s: Best comment ever. And to be honest with you, the "9 or 10?" decision was a genuinely hard one, but the stuff I mentioned in the penultimate paragraph gave me no choice but to knock it down.
garnsr: The wonder of Batman, my friend, is universal. The bookshelves, DVD collection and Joker t-shirt in my very British flat are a testament to that.
ALSO: Check out our article from last year for more bands, music, interviews (albeit ones from a year ago) and a history of the scene. It's all at http://tinyurl.com/n3m22a
Squibidy: Yeah, it's true that you only explicitly hear about the takeover of Pacific City, but there are very strong hints in the ending that it's about to spread.
nadrewod999: Seeing Gordon in an unconnected, out-of-game context like this and BEING Gordon when immersed in the massively vibrant and detailed world of Half-Life 2 are two very different experiences and mindsets. That's why we feel okay showing production art, but would never want to see him in-game.
Pokemon horrifies the crap out of me. It's a sanitised depiction of cock-fighting and nothing more. Nintendo have been condoning and profiting from the misery of animals for years, and I can't believe the tabloids haven't got involved yet.
@Cogglesz - it's definitely not a clone of OutRun 2006: Coast 2 Coast - they're completely different to play. But even it was, that would be no bad thing
:) I want me some OutRun 3...
It was Joe Newman, our editorial intern's idea. That's his charming mug in the videos! Kazoo cameos by "the real Chris" Antista, Charlie Bear-hat and on the mouth harp none other than Bender Wilde aka BluesBot2000. Shot and edited by yours truly =)
I too am veggie as you say. And I just had to add that Cundy's list of Pixar films is clearly wrong. It's obviously:
Toy Story
Toy Story 2
Finding Nemo
The Incredibles
Wall-E
Monsters Inc
Ratatouille
Bug's Life
Up (haven't seen yet)
Cars (haven't seen yet but probably last anyway)
But I don't think I've disliked any of them that I've seen...
Oh, and I like frogs - that was a very harsh picture :/
And Metalgatesolid: Sorry, but there's no PS3 version at the moment. It's PC and 360 only right now I'm afraid. We'll let you know if that changes though.
