What Dead Space did well is take everything good about RE4 and made it better - sure they missed a few thing that could have made it epic - but overall they improved the already stellar RE4 formula.
So logically I would like to see them do the same thing again, but this time taking the best parts of DS1, RE4, and RE5.
I thot that Half Life 2: Ep. 1's escort mission at the end was really good. I wish it had a better or more varied environment, but I still thought it was cool.. because you could have some ppl die and not fail... it just made later waves harder.
Another 10? Is 2010 going to go down as the next 2007?
Personally I "liked" BS1, but the replayability of it killed it for me. There was no reason to play it again because you had all the weapons and you could buy the GOOD plasmids and max them out. So while I have a good memory of it... it will be soon forgotten.
I agree with everything - even GTA3 as #1 - but Bioshock? Really? Not only does it ripoff System Shock like you said, but it really didn't do anything we hadn't seen before with a fresh coat of paint.
Also - I am pretty sure FO3 got its inspiration from Morrowind/Oblivion and the original FO - not from Bioshock.
Don't get me wrong - Bioshock was great - but not even close to a top 20 most important.
AND WHERE IN THE HELL IS DIABLO 2? Other than WoW and GTA - find me another game on this list that has been copied like Diablo 2.
I must admit that naming two maps which came out less than a month ago as part of "greatest maps ever" (l4d2 and MW2) is rather discrediting. How could we possibly know that already? It seems too much like we are breathing the "new game smell". But the other map choices are solid - honestly you could pick a handful of maps from COD4 and be ok. Strike being my favorite.
@ Cwf2008 Yeah, that's just it... we don't want to be at your CAPS LOCKING NONCONSTRUCTIVE COMMENT level. That is the point - if we wanted to play a console game we would have bought a console. PC gamers aren't all elitists we just expect a company to listen to its patrons - wouldn't you want any company you buy from listening to you?
I agree with all of these except the L4D2 - Its not that the boycotters wanted all that for free... its that they wanted what was promised in L4D1... and haven't really recieved. Also it already has split the community... L4D1 players online are down big time.
The other thing is why are all these minor improvements like Realism mode and better m-player modes so exclusive to L4d2?... Why not give the L4D1 players some love. That is why some modicum of hate is justified... but certainly not all.
Also, on a funny note - Approx. 25% of the players int he L4d2 boycott are CURRENTLY PLAYING L4D2!!!
Hell yeah! Vagrant Story and Soul Reaver - Both awesome games! I played the crap out of both of them on my old PS. I also made some truly badass films in Driver.... Driver 2 sucks.
I played Panzer Dragoon Orta... it sucked... it looked awesome, but it was short, the story was thin and bat-shit insane and the gameplay was repetitive. But, boy did it look pretty.
I am glad they are addressing many of the gameplay issues that plagued the first game. But one that I have heard nothing about is the level structure. Save for a few areas, the game really felt a bit "corridorish" but with pretty walls. Why give me a massive city and only 4 places to go? Why give me a planet to explore with nothing on it and with the same base I just explored on the last planet?
Lets also hope they make the combat a bit more battle like and less skirmishy - I felt like I could only use 1 or two powers before I had killed everyone off - never having to manage my power usage and cooldowns.
The Battlefield Series in general, but BF2 more specifically.
Where to begin - 1942 was great and a breath of fresh air to M-Player FPS. Not perfect, but still a great game. Then came Vietnam which I felt was a solid improvement on the base 1942 created. Then came BF2 - arguably the best in the series - Which gave us many things we wanted to see from DICE/EA. Everything was right in Battlefield World.... Or so it would seem.... Then the crappy expansions came... and then 2142 came out.. and our eyes opened to what was really going on.
EA/DICE was not trying to perfect the series at all - they were just slapping a new coat of paint on it all and adding things that SHOULD HAVE been implemented in the existing installment. And the one thing that should have come through all this was balance and bug fixes... and it never did. Worse yet was that after the new installment was out EA-DICE put the kill patch in the older one. BF:Vietnam is wildly unstable as is 1942. BF2 seems to be spared the rod (not completely as they still don't utilize multi-threading which was a crime when it came out, and also have sound issues with numerous sound cards) and 2142 still has its share of problems from what I hear)
My friend tried to get me back into BF2 a couple of weeks ago... and I figured why not.... I wasn't even playing yet when a myriad of issues and all the pain and anger came swirling back.
Thank god 1943 is free, because I wouldn't spend a dime on that series anymore.
You forgot to mention Yoshi having to save Mario's child (where ever that is from) twice - taking care of the child like the nice uncle would when a absentee father goes gallivanting off after some trim.
Yoshi is a saint for that - but like you said he no doubt got sick of the BS and left him. Friends will help you move - but they won't play daddy to your kids while you pursue a destructive relationship.
I would have to say the karma based decisions that have been in games lately. Why is it that these worlds are always so light and dark with no shade of gray? I guess nothing cashes in on "replayability" more than a good and evil ending. And why is my character either Mother Theresa or Evil McAsshat who eats the faces off of kittens. Why can't I just be a selfish asshole who makes no real mark on the world... like I am in real life?
I am on the Anti-L4D2 bandwagon... I don't care about the daytime levels or the character look, and no, I don't think Valve is going to screw me. Its just that Valve promised us more content and the Survival pack really was not it. It was a new game mode (and yes a lighthouse level, blah blah) and little else. Valve said there would be new weapons (absent), new game modes (present), new characters (absent), and most of all new movies (absent). That is what I am upset about.
I am actually upset about l4d2... When l4d came out with only 4 campaigns and m-player on 2 of them we forgave them for that because we figured "Its valve, they just continually release stuff... the game will get bigger"
And it kinda did... We now have survival mode - which is a fun diversion and we also can do m-player on all 4 maps. But now with l4d2 coming out more resources are going that way and we are left with a game that is honestly only 4 to 5 hours long (if your not including multiplayer... which just uses the SAME maps!)
This is a giant rip off... The content we have is good... but the quantity is seriously lacking - Make l4d2 a Add-on for like $10 or $20 and intergrate some of the changes into the old maps and I am back on board.
