The real story behind the Dead Island trailer video |

I really liked that trailer too. I do think that some people are going to be put off by the disparity between the tone of the trailer and the actual gameplay (from what I've seen so far). C4 knives and electric machetes would seem out of place in the setting that trailer elicits. I'm still looking forward to the game though, very much. Also, Christopher Nolan? Come on. Just because Batman movie was better than a Batman movie should be... |

Hmmm. This reviewer really likes V.A.T.S. I felt it got boring both to watch and as a gameplay mechanic halfway through Fallout 3. Also, I just can't picture the companion system being that much better than it was in Fallout 3 (in which it was terrible). Furthermore, NV might best Borderlands in the RPG category, but it as a shooter, I doubt it holds a candle (unless there are huge changes from F3). What most interests me about NV is Hardcore Mode. |

I loved IV. But the #1 thing they could do- A NEW FUCKING ENGINE. They already shoveled the exact same shitty engine on us with Fallout 3. To make myself clear a NEW engine, not just an update. I think Bethesda might be the laziest devs in the business. Also, "A Better Map" -- how about functional UI all around. The UI/map/inventory was only BARELY tolerably with user-made mods. (BTW, the map you show is a high-res, color map from a mod.) I didn't think it was possible but that actually made WORSE UI in Fallout 3. Really, Fallout 3 has got to be the most overrated game ever, and it has caused me to lose all confidence in Bethesda. |

Fucking stupid. 1. That has nothing to do with the game. That could be a trailer for a Sega Genesis game. 2. What a lame story. It's a prime example of why comic books that take place in done-to-death universes like DC and Marvel are shit. They could make 'New-Interesting-Intellectual-Property Universe Online' instead of '50-year-old-Trite-Hack Universe Online', except they know that all you mindless dickheads will unquestionably buy anything you recognize, so anything else is a risk. |

WTF! The poorly dubbed German in the first Saboteur video -- the lines that don't seem to be coming from any of the Nazis as they run up the stairs -- are ripped straight from Day of Defeat: Source. The first line is "come here and help me" and the second is "enemy position knocked out, move up". You hear them 10X a game. I wonder if they stole them or just somehow licensed them from the same place?? |

Epic games that end on a whimper |

Yeah, both Bioshock and Fallout 3 should be on this list. Bioshock went straight down hill after the second act 'twist', and ended with a lame boss battle and even lamer cutscene(s). Fallout 3 ended with a totally forced decision about which person should die of radiation when neither had to since there was a noble radio-active immune mutant on hand. And then after all it's talk of 'choices' affecting outcomes, the difference between being a horrible character and a saint is a different 20 second voice over in the last cutscene? wtf? |

I have probably bought 1 boxed game in the last 3 years, compared to the hundreds I have bought from digital distribution services (Steam). I couldn't be happier, especially since I generally paid much less than I would had I bought them the old-fashioned way, and I didn't have to spend any time in annoying stores or wait 2 days for my package to come from Amazon. |

How to fix what's wrong with PC gaming |
|
|
After reading the article, there is much more animosity towards the author here from PC Gamers than I expected. Let me first say that I play games exclusively on PC, and am about as hardcore a PC gamer as there is. I don't agree completely with all 12 of this article's assessments, but I do agree that some changes would really restore/cement PC gaming's greatness. Make PC hardware standards compulsory ->Yes. But! Not using windows' index. A system is already in place and widely accepted/used for measuring how well your system can handle games, it is called 3DMarks. Microsoft should buy this software, standardize it, and make it available for free with windows. ->Let’s bring the PC back to E3 This one is obvious, but it is really up to the companies who are presenting at E3. ->Make better PCs ->Reclaim the high tech advantage These two go together in my opinion. I've been building PCs since I was 12, but that doesn't mean it is for everybody. There is no denying that the more accessible it is, the more people are going to try it. Also, the more modular PCs are the easier it is to update you GPU when the latest tech comes out. Without having to buy a new motherboard or CPU or ram. ->Make games complicated I don't really agree with this assertion. Some games should be complicated and some games shouldn't be. I don't always want to master a 5 page excel spreadsheet just to be able to compete. ->Learn from the pirates This one is important. It has been discussed alot though. Anti-Piracy measures do not work! Publishers need to realize this ASAP. ->Open up our friends lists Yeah. Steam does this pretty well, but it isn't the answer for all games, and neither is GFWL(obviously). ->Kill indie elitism I understand the point he is trying to make here. However, I really don't see many indie developers who are holding out from any publishers or advertisers just to keep their indie cred. Most people who are making games wouldn't mind making a few dollars. ->Open up Steam to everyone I think a better idea would be to disassociate Steam from Valve. This way there is no conflict of interest because Steam wouldn't be owned by a dev/publisher. ->Get serious about retro Yeah, sure. ->Put a 3D chip in every netbook I'd love to be able to play my favorite games when I'm away from my desktop but the nature of small, portable computers is such that they will never be as good as a desktop. ->Reinvent our controllers I'm not sure about this one. I really doubt we will ever beat the mouse and keyboard for control of FPS or RTS games (not until virtual reality anyway). |

|

@tuomotaivainen Actually, the so-called "click-click" combat doesn't really have anything to do with what controller you use. It is about how much control you actually have over your character. MMO gameplay(as seen in this video) boils down to telling your guy where to stand and then queuing up actions for him to do. |

How likely is Kojima's dream of a console-less future? |

@JohnnyMaverik- I'd actually prefer to 'convert' (or upgrade) them to PC gamers. Some console gamers grow up and play games on the PC. @Felixthecat- The way you feel about Wii Sports "newbies". Is very similar to the way PC gamers feel about Xbox360/PS3 players. That is, partially excited that they want to share our hobby but partially irritated that they are so popular. |

Imagine a console that could play ANY game... Imagine if it was 100% modular so you could take it apart and replace any piece you wanted, and that the hardware was widely available at competitive prices... Imagine if it had a nearly infinite number of optional peripherals and input devices... Imagine if game developers could develop games for it for free... Imagine if there were no extra fees to take the system online, on top of your internet bill... Imagine if it was powerful enough to do SO MUCH more than just play games... Now imagine if, as of right now, 3/4 homes ALREADY had one or more of these consoles! Yeah, it is called a PC. The only thing separate gaming platforms do is fill the greedy pockets of Microsoft, Sony, and Nintendo. Developers DO NOT benefit from having to either focus on one market or waste time porting their game to different systems. We gamers DO NOT benefit from having to shell out for an overpriced toy-computer, or wait (possibly indefinitely) for a game we want to play to be available. Don't feed corporate greed, learn how to use your PC, learn how to get the most out of it for games, and you will come to understand how INCREDIBLY SUPERIOR it is. Seriously, its like the difference between owning a Formula1 race car and owning a gocart. |

Which console will win 2010? |
|
|
No matter which wins, I'll tell you who loses-- us. The gamers. Not only is our hobby under constant threat of censorship from grandstanding politicians and other attention whores, not only is it looked down upon by the mainstream as 'childish' and a lesser form of entertainment, not only are potentially great games axed before we get a chance to play them because they aren't assured to sell as well as 'BestSellingGame' sequel XX, but we also have to endure being exploited by the corporate leaders of an industry that would be nothing without us. There is absolutely no reason, other than console manufacturer GREED, that every game couldn't be released for every system (especially in the case of 360, PS3, and PC). I urge any gamer who feels the sudden urge to jump into the "my console's dick is bigger than yours'" flaming online fan punch-up (we all do sometimes), to consider at whom their anger should really be directed. |
