Danomeon commented on: Silent Hill: Homecoming (Xbox 360): Silent Hill: Homecoming |
| I liked this game quite a bit, mainly because it actually scared me. With Dead Space, I played through the game in the middle of the night with all of the lights turned off, but it still failed to frighten me. Then I rented Silent Hill, and had the living padooples (I completely just made up that word)scared out of me. The settings for the game are much eerier than Dead Space's (stereotypical, alien-invaded space ship, or stereotypical freakish and twisted demonic hospital?) I also found that the mystery clouding what is going on in the otherworld kept me gripped and frightened. In Dead Space, I always felt like I knew what was going on. There were evil neccromorphs on the ship, I have to get them off. I already know what they are and where I am. But in Silent Hill, I was constantly wondering what was going on. (Spoilers) Why was the doctor cutting himself? Why in the hell was mayor Bartlett with that freakish heart-thingy? What in the HELL was up with that twisted hospital from the chapter, "Hell Descent"??? The music was incredible in Silent Hill, and it truly frightened me as well. The lack of trustable characters made it slightly disturbing as well (You were constantly talking to characters in Dead Space, so it didn't have the disturbing feeling of isolation. Sure, you were betrayed by one crew member at one point, and one of those people (MAJOR SPOILERS) didn't really exist, but at least they were still allies for most of the game.) It is obvious that Dead Space is (In the opinions of many) an incredible game, and much better than Silent Hill: Homecoming (Again, total opinions, please don't rant at me fanboys.), but I still have it written that I find Silent HIll scarier than Dead Space in my book. Also, I think they are both awesome, and Dead Space is more exciting and has better gameplay overall. (but less of that fear factor.) And, at the risk of being called a fanboy, I have only played Homecoming in the Silent Hill series, and I have throughly completed Dead Space. I loved both games, and while I enjoyed Dead Space more, I found it to be more of an action game than horror. |

| I remember working my fat, nerd buttocks off mowing lawns and shoveling driveways to get my greasy hands on a PS2. MAny years later, and I still have fond memories of following all-star series' like Metal Gear Solid, Ratchet and Clank, the Jak games, Devil May Cry, Tekken, Silent Hill, and many more. I have so many fond memories of my trips to the rental store and seeing 6 or so rows of PS2 games lined up on shelves, each one calling to me. It was heaven as a child, especially considering I had no tastes back then and enjoyed prettymuch anything I rented. |

Danomeon commented on: The Top 7... games that don't deserve nostalgia |
| Argh. I love how many Final Fantasy fanboys have ravaged these commenting boards, too stupid to realise that gaming is a complete opinion and that GR is entitled to their own opinion. There is no official "These games are better" meter, and it is complete opinion. GR is only sharing their humble opinion, and yet some people are obviously too stupid to accept the fact that just because people's opinions differentiate from theirs, doesn't mean that said people are idiots. Seriously, angry ranters, grow up, and learn to respect one's opinions rather than screaming your own at these people like they are facts. Then you will look less like a fanboy, and more like a human being capable of compassion and understanding. |

| I really miss the Viewtiful Joe series. All of the games featured great comic-style graphics, various different enemey types, incredible boss battles, delicious and classic side-scroller type gameplay, teqniques that required mastery to correctly use, but simple to learn, with massive potential for beautfiful combos. Throw in some insane boss battles, constant action, and a good sense of humor, and the game is a winner in my book. |

Danomeon commented on: The 100 lamest game-industry clichés |
| I generally find that all of these cliches are unavoidable in writing a review. The point of a review is to inform others how good or bad the game is, and some of these phrases are overused simply because they get the job done. Everyone knows what "Action packed" means, and that word is a good descriptor. I hear people say that a game is "Beautiful" alot and do I mind it? No, mainly because it is the most simple way to describe the graphics. Not to mention the fact that some of these words can be used to further bring others towards a good game. For example, if you said that Okami (You know you cannot resist this game!) was "Revolutionary" and "Action packed", people would want to purchase it more. |

| Chrono trigger, an absolute masterpiece. always get to the part in which you are in the earth's crust about to fight lavos, but while traveling through the annoying lava-themed dungeon, I am almt always killed before I can reach a save point and put the game down, frustrated about losing alot of progress (Is it really that hard for a "Retry" function to be implemented?). | One of my favorite games. If anything is my favorite bit, it is the versus modes. Most people who don't really know how to play it flame it as "too cheap for infected players", but really it is all about coordination. If a team is just flailing themselves at the enemy as the infected in versus, they are definitely going to fail. If they set up attack points, (Like 2 hunters and a smoker all snagging their prey after all of the survivors are vomited on by a boomer, or a smoker pulling a survivor into a car, setting the alarm off, followed by 2 hunters pouncing on the other survivors) then versus becomes alot more fun, and success is almost inevitable. | |

Danomeon commented on: Beloved games we hate |
| Games that I love on my list, and my reason for loving them... Halo 3- yeah, the single player does suck. But online, the game turns into a bit of a party game, the kind when a large group of people are all drunkenly laughing as their ghost crashes into someone, crumpling them to the floor. By myself, the game is a complete mess. But add friends into the mixture, and the game becomes an explosion of joy. Call of Duty 4: I loved seeing all of the cinematic moments, not for the plot, but just for the sheer eye candy of being able to open up a can of pop and watch as explosions fly around me. The multiplayer's online matchmaking system also gave me an incentive to keep playing, and made each kill feel like a joyous, progressive step forward in the rank. World of warcraft- Yes, it is a little too obsessive, but when I reach the top tiers, the joy of teaming up with 25 friends to take down some completely massive and awesome badass while utilizing my character's special abilites makes for a great joy on the weekends, and like call of duty 4, that incentive to continue getting better gear breathes longevity into the game. Braid- What? You thought it was difficult? My 11 year old sister completed the game without any assistance! Anyways, I guess since this is the week of hate I will pitch in my two cents about a popular game I despise... Gears of war (Both.) The controls feel very narrow and sluggish, and I hate the feel of the weapons. Besides the brutal chainsaw kills, none of the weapons feel like they are making a connection with the enemies, and my kills never get that entertaining zing like in halo or call of duty that makes you think, "I OBLITERATED THAT GUY!" I also hate the look of the characters. I can't relate to massively beefy men, as not only are they unrealistic, but they also take up most of the dang screen while I'm playing! And don't get me started about the level design. How do you people find constantly black, dark levels fun? Take gears 2 for example. Level one? A destroyed city. That was in the first gears, so what else can you cough up? An underground cavern. Great, what else? A dark labratory. O...k? Anything more??? What? More underground caverns? What now? AN UNDERGROUND CASTLE? And then, what else? ANOTHER DESTROYED CITY?!?!??! All of the environments seem dark and lifeless, and they just drag on forever and ever. I also hate the fact that truskill matchmaking can't get me into a single multiplayer match. Really. I've even left the console on for an hour while it was searching, just to see if it would drum up some results, and it never did. Go figure. Fallout 3- I dont' care how large your game is, if you can't populate its "massive" world with anything interesting, don't bother making it in the first place. Really, the game has the equivilent of two environments. Dark, deserted buildings with trash everywhere, and a massive, boring wasteland with trash everywhere. I'm constantly getting deja vu from the subway trains, and I think that there aren't enough weapons. throw in terribly abrupt and boring ending, and a giant bucketload of glitches, and you've got yourself a game I hate! Oblivion- Basically, take my explanation of fallout 3, and change the 2 environments from "Dark buildings with trash everywhere and a large wasteland with trash everywhere" to "Dark maze-like caves and boring wilderness that all looks the same." |

Danomeon commented on: The Top 7 games you either love or hate |
| 1st of all, I'm shocked that world of warcraft wasn't on here. The lovers comment on its massiveworld, incredible amounts of content, great pvp, casual and hardcore balance, incredible raid bosses, and great player communities, while haters usually say that it involves too much grinding, and that the combat isn't much fun (though really the combat reaches its full driving force at maximum level against a toweringly massive boss when used in coordination with a large group of other players) Anyways, here are my opinions on the following games. Assasin's creed: It was an incredible game up until I realized that I had to do the same thing in the same cities. I would consider it an average game. Guitar Hero: I love it when friends are over and we are all partying with the thing, but single player, I just can't get much into it. Killzone 2: I do not have a PS3, but if I did I'm sure this game would be a wonderfully fun (if a little stereotypical)Fps, and I have heard the multiplayer is stellar. Space Giraffe- I probably would like it,but at the time I had a choice. What should I purchase? SG, or Braid? I obviously chose the artistic masterpiece. Pokemon- I never got into the collecting aspect as a kid, though I distinctly remember how fun it was to face all of the gym trainers and level up my pokemon. I'm on to better RPGs nowadays (Chrono trigger has occupied my DS for the last 2 weeks.) Dead rising: I saw potential, but gave up on the game altogether when I realised I had to grind on zombies to beat the first boss. Couldn't they have just taken away the stupid 72 hour concept and give me unlimited time to kill the zombies? Halo- I didn't like single player, but I still love playing a few awesome custom roundss of infection on a map I made with my friends. It is kind of like guitar hero for me in the way that it is a party game. |
