Assassin's Creed II (PS3): Assassin's Creed II
I went to the midnight release of this (I don't know what compelled me to when i could have gotten it after work today) and played it for just one hour when I got home. It's excellent
I just got through the first assassination and I have to say that I'm loving the slightly sped up combat, the more fluid climbing, the hidden blades in combat...
My only gripe is that the faces sometimes look a bit PS2ish, specifically Lucy. What did they do to her? For a collection of pixels in a game, she was relatively hot in the first. Now not so much. But that's just a little thing. the actual gameplay is visually beautiful.
15-20 hours for the sequel of a game that you could easily beat in 6 hours is really very enticing and pretty impressive.
all in all, my first impression i that this review was right on the florins.

It's a toss up between Mario Kart 64 and Star Fox 64. I played the piss out of Star Fox. beat it at least twice a week. Plugged it in the other day and i still love it.
Mario Kart 64. my sister and i still play it and we get really competitive. It looks like crap and it's gotten kind of buggy with age, but it's still way more fun than just about any current gen racing game, including Mario Kart Wii.

Star Fox. I play Star Fox 64 to death and had it to the point where i could have probably played it in my sleep. Then Adventures came out and I didn't bother with it. it was Zelda with furries. but then Assault came out and I loved it. This console generation is begging for one. Online Co-Op/Multiplayer? This franchise desperately needs it. HD Graphics? oh yeah. On foot missions? NO! No more! Fox belongs in the cockpit. This franchise could probably birth a pretty decent RTS; and a good RTS on the Wii would be a pretty big deal. They need to keep the cheesy dialog though.

surprising though that my cousin, one of the most well informed gamers that i know of and a former Ninty fan boy had never heard about nintendo screwing sony. i had to explain it to him. it was the biggest WTF of my life

Either the 2nd to last "Assassination" in AC or anytime in PoP that a QTE popped up only to flash away half a second later.

The 2nd to last assassination in AC had me annoyed mainly because of how many guards "Robert" had with "him". And when I played it the first time (yes I played it more than once), I for some reason, could not dodge. so annoying, but it was the only time in the game that the Vigilantes were actually helpful to me.

QTEs in PoP, ugh. Anyone who has played it will know what I mean.

i really hope motion control isn't THE future of gaming. granted, it pulls in a new crop of "gamers", but those that it pulls in typically don't move past the games like Cooking Mama and WiiFit. If they do and they get into hardcore titles and are actually good at them, fantastic. The devs that do things right will get more support and recognition. But sadly, that doesn't seem to be how it works. in order to get them pulled in to hardcore titles, the titles would have to be watered down and then slowly be solidified as the new gamers get more comfortable with the real controllers and such. But then there's a new crop of new gamers who have to be weened onto hardcore titles and so forth and so on

I really want this to succeed. I'm a former nintendo fan who really wants to see them back on their A game.

Granted, this will be a good game, but i'm just worried that it won't be what they need to keep from losing their core fans to M$ or Sony.

But then i think "It's friggin' Mario. It will be immensely fun and enjoyable, no matter how THE SAME it is to the previous entry." Ninty might be taking the approach of "It's not broken. Why tinker?" on this one, which can be good and bad.

i just hope this is as good as everyone hopes
