GR’s weekend giveaway: Marvel vs. Capcom 3: Fate of Two Worlds FightStick - Collector’s Edition from Mad Catz
I might actually get into this game proper if I try it on a stick. I assume it's the same set up and compatible with street fighter 4?

Wow right around the 46 second mark of the title screen track SCREAMS Donkey Kong Country! That is so cool.

This was a few years before my time, but it's amazing that a little 8-bit piece like that still immediately makes me think of Rare/Wise!

Derivative games that were actually kind of great
I like the point you're making. The issue I have though is that, in my view, "mashing" a bunch of different types of gameplay elements together actually IS innovation. Yes, Darksiders took the dungeoning aspect of Zelda and the portal gun, but putting a portal gun to use in a Zelda type dungeon adds a whole dimension that hasn't necessarily existed before. The obvious argument against me here would be that this is simply adding "gimmicks" to the game and not actually innovating. If that's the case, then REAL innovation wouldn't ever happen unless a completely new genre were created that nobody's ever seen before. I digress. Depending on your tastes any game can be great. Some food for thought; what if somebody had never played God of War before and decided to pick up Dante's Inferno? Would they have the same amazing reaction they would have as someone who originally played the first God of War? Jim Sterling, you stir a good pot of controversy :P P.S. I had to read that entire article with a thick English accent in my head.
