I must say that my favorite is the chick in the bikini in a rather submissive stance. Hit it from the back. :P

"unrelatedly, for PC 1990's I would have AOE2, I still play it online with my friends almost every week, it's just so well balanced and deep." @zim831 That's exactly why I think trying to choose the two most influential pc games of each decade just doesn't work. Many, many games were influential in their own ways....the AoE series definitely had a profound impact on me in the mid to late nineties, but so did Warcraft 2, Star Wars: Tie Fighter, the original Diablo (although I think Diablo II was more influential), and several others. He should have chosen one per genre per decade, or left the pc completely out of the list. That's just my opinion though. Anyways, I love nostalgia inducing articles. Who knew when I was a young tyke exploring Hyrule in a Link to the Past, I would still be thinking back fondly to those times 17 years later.

Has anyone else noticed that a lot of these games (almost all of the top nintendo ones in fact) came out very early in the consoles lifetime? I think we all can agree that the average life of a console is ~5 years, and many of these games came out when the system debuted or shortly there-after. Does that mean that we've already seen the best that PS3 and 360 have to offer? Thank goodness I'm a pc gamer now....

I'll just disregard your posts from here on out.

Empire: Total War (PC): Empire: Total War
I'm too busy playing EB on R:TW to even think about Empire. I'm still waiting for EB2 on Medieval, so I can finally install that game that I've now owned for 18 months. Vanilla total war just doesn't come close to the job those guys have done with their EB mod. If you own Rome and haven't played EB, you haven't played Rome like it was meant to be played. Still in my top 3 favorite games of all time....not R:TW mind you, but R:TW with EB. As far as mods go, there is little comparison (in any game really). I couldn't imagine playing games with units like "archer" and "spearmen". Yuck.

Have to agree with Frag here... Trying to confine 30 years of PC history to two games per decade is, well, crazy (no offense to the writer, but I'm a long time subscriber to PC Gamer, so as someone who helps pay your salary, I feel I can make some constructive criticism here). Maybe two games per GENRE would have worked, but, groundbreaking titles like the original DOOM and Diablo II were discluded due to lack of space and no other reason. They were easily as influential as any of the other games on your list. I enjoy lists, but sometimes they don't take in the entire scope of things, leading to a rather narrow-minded, and therefore, unrealistic and irrelevant, message to readers. In other words, I don't think you could make a list of the 10 best PC games of the decade, let alone 2. The PC section has little basis in reality.

LMAO at T&C Surf and board or whatever the hell it is...

I totally forgot that, not only did I own that game around 89', I also ENJOYED it.

Aaaah, simpler 8-bit times.

The effect of all caps can be attained with a few exclamation points, and is far less annoying to try and read.

Just a thought...

I agree with many of these choices. I still remember when I first played Zelda: A Link to the Past in 2nd Grade. Good times.

Although I would have placed Street Fighter II higher than Super Metroid....it introduced millions of U.S. kids to the 2D fighting genre that has been a staple of gaming for nearly 20 years now.

People can argue that there were good 2D fighters before Street Fighter II (although I can't think of any, as the original Mortal Kombat came after SFII IIRC), but those were on systems that most American kids didn't have, if they existed at all.

Street Fighter II had an enormous influence on me as a gamer, and was as revolutionary in 1992 as FFVII would be to me 5 years later.
