I'll say fallout 3. It wasn't really beloved but its the only game that qualifies for this question since i don't really hate any games i used to love. I went through it (mostly story a few side quests, really just scratched the surface) and was right at the end of the story and my friend erased my save. This has since caused me to really just lose all interest completely because i wasn't that captivated by it to begin with. its an excellent game, but i guess im more of a jrpg fan haha.
I have never really hated any movie games from experience, just avoided them because i knew i should. However, I did once acquire the non arcade version of T2 for genesis and that game was damn terrible.
It's gotta be Ps1. I had an atari 2600 followed by an NES to a genesis but PS1 is where it really came together and solidified me as a gamer. it was the first system that made me start paying attention to gaming and buying my own games. My dad bought it for me because my parents had just gotten divorced and i needed something to do at his place, i never asked for it. it could have just as easily been an N64 and i would be a completely different person.
As far as dead franchises go, i really would kill to get another Zone of the Enders and a new Musashi title. Twisted Metal too but i hear that's in the works. I would love to get Working Designs back and a true, proper Squaresoft. Square and Enix were so much better when they were separate. As good as FF13 looks like its going to be i miss Sakaguchi and the original Final Fantasy team.
Bullet-time/heightened reflex/blind rage mode.
it always seems like cheating. whenever i have the option of using bullet time i use it to death and take the fun out of it for myself.
I loved the uncharted 2 demo along with God of war 3 and FF14. i do hope however, that ff14 isn't full on MMO like ff11. i would like to have seen more gt5 stuff and an effing twisted metal ps3 demo, even a trailer would have been fine.
I probably wouldn't have picked this originally but with all of the kojima speculation in the air i realize i would really love to see a fantastic ps3 zone of the enders. also the old standby -- ps3 FF7 remake. also ps3 twisted metal. PS3 price drop too, but thats just so i can stop being the only person i know that has one.
for me its chrono trigger and ff9. i love chrono trigger, ive played through it like 8 times but everytime i get to the end to fight lavos i just lose to him a few times and give up or stop playing before i fight him. I made it to the very last fight in FF9 but i just never completed it. i Didn't even fight him once, i might have won, who knows.
the top 3 games i always end up going back to are counter-strike, warcraf 3 and final fantasy 7. i used to be really good at CS and WC3. i played in CS tourneys with clans on our own servers and stuff. i was on the 4v4 AT ladder in WC3 too, but now all i play is custom games. I always start new games in FF7 but usually quit again shortly after the end of disc 1. its not that i dont like disc 2 (its actually my favorite) it just happens that way.
the first game i pre-ordered was FF8. i had officially played the balls right off of FF7 (300+ hours) and i figured if 8 was even half as good i needed it in my life with no time wasted. even though i only went through 8 once (100% complete though) i still loved it and ended up also pre-ordering 9 and chrono cross and ff10 later. I also bought an FF9 shirt from the squaresoft store that ended up being an XXL (which didnt really work out very well for me at 120lb in 8th grade). i tried to wear it anyway with shirts under it because i liked it so much but i think i only got about 2 wears out of it before i decided it was just too damn ridiculous.
man, spectacular article. that silver surfer track blew me away, i cant believe that was NES. also, i have never played the original MGS but i can't believe how cinematic that was, especially for PS1, really impressive stuff.
I loved the touch buttons too, but I won't be heartbroken. Btw, for anyone needing HDMI cables, I'd just like to shill for monoprice. If you buy a MonsterCable for anything, you deserve ridicule.
An FF4 prequel detailing Cecil's descent into evil henchman reminds me of an book I bought years ago called Treachery and Treason. It was a collection of short stories where the bad guy won and the good guy usually got the pointy end. It was great. I wish more people would realize that the good guys don't always make it, and there are definitely good stories to be told there.
Favorite moments:
-Golden Sun DS announcement out of left field.
-Watching M$ and Sony completely shame Nintendo's motion controls (which seems to be the one thing keeping them going at the moment).
-Hearing/reading the massive amounts of content posted up by the GR crew over the past couple days. Immense task, fellas. Fucking immense.
PS3 price drop; PSP redesign somethingorother; a decent Sonic game; Nintendo to announce SOME SORT OF PROPER SYSTEM (please Nintendo, stop twisting the knife in our collective gaming heart)
Also, I think a fancy remake/update of the Mutant League games would be hilarious.
I hope I wasn't the only one who shouted a little cheer when Jack Thompson was disbarred. It should be a day celebrated annually by gamers everywhere. In case you weren't aware, on Sept. 25th, 2008, Thompson was permanently disbarred for consistent misconduct and ordered to pay $43.6k and change to the Florida Supreme Court.
Some of my fondest memories of gaming as a kid were playing Aladdin and Lion King on the Genesis. I'm not sure what I'd think of them today, but I'm inclined to say they'd still hold up. *nostalgic sigh*
