Good article.

My biggest problem with difficulty ratings is more that it always seems like there is a drastic jump between what can be classified as the casual difficulties and the hardcore difficulties. This is especially true in games with 3-tier difficulty, but even holds for the 4-tier games. I feel that by the time you get to the end of the game on one difficulty you should be ready enough for the next highest one. This isn't the case though.

Call of Duty 4 is a good example of this. The ramp up from the second hardest to hardest difficulty was immense. It ended up is a campaign grind, where it felt like I unfairly dies over and over again because it was more than just a harder challenge.

Ideally difficulty should come from varying AI smartness levels, or upping the amount of enemies. Where it is done wrong is when they have impossible awareness levels, or when the developer cranks up the enemies health, and to me the worst is when they give enemies a rate of fire and accuracy that you could never match with the same weapon.

On the other hands, there is easy difficulty. Easy has a problem of not actually making the player learn how to play the game. An example of this would be Halo 2. You can literally bead that entire game on easy just punching enemies with a depleted energy sword (It is rather fun, but still, easy shouldn't be that easy).

Doesn't bother me as I will be getting it for Xbox 360 anyways. If it isn't on Steam, it's not on my PC. 1 centralized library of games is all I'm willing to put up with.

I agree with Gears 3. I was looking forward to it. I preordered the limited edition because I was so excited. I love Gears, I love the gears of war fiction and reading the Gears of wars books. I thought this title can only be amazing, because Gears 2 was such a great step up from Gears 1. Me an my brother hunkered down in the living room after dragging in my Xbox so we can play on the biggest, best screen in the house, and then we sludge through hours of meaningless nothing. The addition of 4 player co-op stripped away the narrative you normally got from actors 3 and 4. Suddenly you always had an extra pair of people with you. Gone were the parts where is split you into 2 groups, then split you again so that you and you're friend were fighting parallel but not necessarily together. Then, gone were the gigantic set pieces. I wasn't necessarily expecting to be eaten by a giant worm again, but come on, something big needed to happen and it never did. The final boss fight was annoyingly crap as well.

Nothing was answered, nothing felt truly resolved, and I kind of wished I'd of spent my precious money on something else like Arkham City.

If you don't want people to focus on you lead female characters boobs, don't have her busting out of her corset.

Of course I noticed her eyes, they do their job like he wants them to, but then you can't not notice her breasts because they are busting out right underneath her head.

If you don't want your female lead to be sexualized then don't make her so stereotypical. She is the same impossibly proportioned nerd designed female character that many video games suffer with creating.

Unfortunately, as long as there are idiots like my friends who mindlessly buy the next CoD despite the fact that it isn't much different from the last one, CoD is going to remain the top selling garbage that it is. I mean, it is still at the number 2 spot on that chart. It's sad really. I was a big fan of CoD 4 (may first ever CoD title) and then became a big CoD hater with MW2. Took one sequel for me to be over the game series and realize it was heading no where.

It is the Madden of shooters.

I have all the STALKER games, just haven't gotten around to playing much of them. They were unique games though from what I did play.

6 months ago Pre-order Deus Ex on Steam for Team Fortress 2 extras
They can all be purchased in TF2's store, even after the game comes out (and all the weapons can be crafted). They won't be any more sought out than any other hat or cosmetic item.

I play games at least 6 hours a day i would guess. I have a 360, xbox, and ps1. I cant really say what my favorite game is, but for now i would have to place it on fallout 3, but there are so many good games that its a very hard choice.
