@Godz_Mercenary: You are an outrageous tool. You fooled no one at your attempt to get a first without saying first. You're just as bad as the rest, and had you just typed (first), you still would have been that asshole who types it and ends up with the second comment.
Darkwatch. That game was straight ganked from the Halo template. Before regenerating health was the popular thing to do, Darkwatch copied it, along with controls, weapons, and even system menus that were mirror imitations. It was almost fun to point out each little thing that mimicked Halo.
@Cyberninja good to know that getting first comment was worth posting before you actually read the entire article, dickhead. As for not imagining games with just words, it sounds like you haven't been into games nearly long enough to appreciate this site.
@Seabread You idiot, by making a point to say you don't care about being first, you have effectively become just as bad as the rest of the dumb first crowd...and in fact, I suspect you've been that dumb from the start.
As for the 360 laser burning...I worked at a retail store and received countless 360 games in my section that the front desk had taken in as defective...it's really sad that people are getting rewarded with new copies instead of learning from their mistakes.
I am exceedingly disappointed that for all the bile I have spewed over "first" comments, I didn't get one of mine used. Either way, it was a lovely article.
@michaelmcc827 & cyberninja: You two are fucking idiots. You are the worst part of the internet. You wasted 4 comments just to bicker back and forth about bragging rights for making a comment just for the sake of making it. You don't say something intelligent, you just spit out the quickest line of shit that you can in an attempt to be able to type "first." Will you go to high school on Monday and brag to all your friends about how you were the one who really deserved the first comment? Is that how pathetic you are? Get off my internet.
As for the list, it gave me a good feeling to think back to Bioshock, and the revelation that your entire journey had been controlled by someone else. Absolutely brilliant storytelling. It's a prime example of why games are such good mediums for it...if you were to watch a movie or read a book with Bioshock's plot, the twist would surely still be impressive...but to find out that you, yourself, are the one who has been running errands for others without even realizing it...that's powerful.
This one takes some setting up, but I promise it's worth it. Traditionally, I have had anger issues regarding games...tons of broken controllers, a girlfriend hurt by an attached headset while I threw a wireless 360 controller...but a month ago was the worst.
My 360 RRoD'd, so to get over it, I got on my PS3 which 5 days later YLoD'd (Yellow Light of Death). It is out of warranty, and a 60GB to boot. I bought a $30 Dreamcast game and began playing my DC. In one week, the A/V outlet just gave out (second Dreamcast to have that happen) and so I was crushed.
On Chris's recommendation I bought GTA for DS, and got addicted, and two weeks later, I got angry at a failed mission and slammed the DS down on a table, thinking these things were traditionally indestructible Nintendo products, but I was wrong. With the bottom screen broken, I sat there, all my games broken, and with a little sob, I tore the DS in half. I then threw the pieces in the yard and sold all of my 360, PS3, PS2, and DC games, vowing to disavow gaming as a hobby. However, while listening to T-Dar (I'm not sucking up, I am being honest) I just had the realization that I can't give this hobby up, even if it is a financial nightmare.
The only problem now is that I have to start fresh, with only a working Game Boy, Genesis, and Gamecube to play. But don't worry, I'm still here, still a gamer.
That was a much more eloquent phrasing of the primitive rage noises I've been making for the past couple of days...something like, "ARRGH RAHAAR VITALITY WHAT GRUUUUGH MARIO GALAXY 2 FAAAARGH!" You are absolutely right and your phrasing is perfect. Good show.
This is the "behind the scenes" I've been waiting for. I love you guys so much. You justify my continued existence every Friday. Can't wait for the E3 coverage. Good luck!
It's unnerving how believable those Reggie quotes are. I mean I hate that man. And that's exactly how he sounds like. He manages to be cocky while trying to convince you that you want every second of it. He's a true salesman, and salesmen are terrible people.
I love when people want to be above making the first comment by saying first, but they still really want to get that comment, so they post a message that's totally pointless. Like Crankr posting a sentence that's missing a few words. You mean the light of day? Somebody was overly-excited to hit that Enter button.
Bear in mind that 7 is still "good," and I certainly don't think this is bad game. But as a lifelong Mario fan, I don't see how anyone could consider this better, let alone on par with SMB3, Mario World, SM64 or Galaxy.
I wondered the same thing, then I realized that 3D World is also published by Future. Sometimes we all share content like this just to show what else we have out there.
For example - I didn't even know we HAD a 3D magazine until now.
Replaying missions is a first on PSP and all Sony platforms, so it's worth saying in that way. But yes, that was a feature on DS as well.
Cyberninja: Yep, I think it's better on DS, having spent tons of time with both I feel I can say that easily. However, if you didn't play the DS one, this is absolutely worth trying.
We tended to stick with the countries you fight them in rather than their origin (Oro wasn't born in Brazil, but his background is) and left out some Final Fight characters that don't appear as playable... characters.
Great list! I would also like to add Metroid Prime Hunters, which manages to convert he robust ideas of Prime into a DS FPS... in early 2006. It's a true technical marvel.
The options were: no podcast at all because we're all stretched too thin and had no time whatsoever OR a brief one with a theme. In this case it's 69 minutes long. Remember we do all of this ourselves...
I think it's a lot of fun, and what's one week of deviation and experimentation? We'll be back to normal next week.
