Position Among The Stars review

Exploding gas cookers, marital tiffs, slacker kids: this Indonesian doc of everyday life plays like a Jakarta version of EastEnder s with extra roaches.

Over 10 years and three films, director Leonard Retel Helmrich has followed slum-dwelling Sjamsuddin family as they cope with everything from graduation ceremonies to political upheaval.

This trilogy-closer retains the same floaty-Steadicam approach, intercut with Malick-style musings on the enigma of nature. The invisible camera approach begs questions yet, for the most part, the effects are extraordinary.
