Chapter 4: The Surprise

Test Chamber 18

After your surprise, enter the chamber and portal across the gap to the platform behind the turret. You'll find a button which releases two Redirection Cubes which collide and fall into the goo. To prevent them from falling, shoot a portal on the ceiling above the light bridge, and one in front of the far cube deposit tube... or whatever you want to call them.

The cubes will land on the other side of the gap, where you started. Portal back to that platform, and get one of the cubes to the laser - you can use the light bridge as a shield if you need to. Redirect the beam through the two visible switches. Grab the other cube, and use it to direct the laser at the turret, destroying it. Direct the laser through the rest of the switches, and use the bridge to reach the exit door.

Test Chamber 19

The first Redirection Cube you'll need is easy to spot on the floor of the chamber. Grab it, and portal up to the platform across from the laser beam. Redirect the laser into the first switch (on the other side of the chamber).

The second cube is on a high platform near the entrance - you can reach it by placing a portal above it. Once you have it, place a portal on the floor, and one above the Faith Plate. Drop the cube through the floor, and the plate will launch it back out. While it's in the air, fire a portal onto the wall across from the first switch (which the laser now runs through), launching the cube onto the platform. Do the same for yourself, and redirect the laser to the second switch.

The third and final cube is on another high platform near the entrance. Use the Faith Plate trick to launch yourself out of the wall perpendicular to it, knocking it to the floor. Portal the cube and yourself up to the platform which the laser beam is now aimed at, and use the cube to direct the beam into the turrets guarding the exit. Once the turrets are destroyed, aim the laser at the final switch. A platform will be raised, allowing you to use the Faith Plate to shoot yourself out of the wall and to the exit door.

Test Chamber 20

Shoot one portal at the spot where the laser beam meets the wall, and another in front of the three switches. Use the Redirection Cubes to aim the other two laser beams through the portal and into the switches. That's all there is to it.

Test Chamber 21

Fire a portal onto the small strip of wall in the far left corner of the room, and another at the end of the bridge. Walk across the bridge and through your portals to access a button. The button will drop a cube onto your bridge - walk toward it and - oh no.

Wheatley will open an escape route for you. If you want an easy Achievement/Trophy, fall for GLaDOS' trick (you will die, but you won't be set back far). Otherwise, run down the light bridge and continue the escape. You'll encounter a room of turrets. They're pretty easy to dispose of, and once you do, you can portal out of the room through a gap in the impromptu walls. After that, there's only one more turret to take care of, and a portal below it and on the wall next to it will do the trick.

I AM SO FRUSTRATED!!! I am on chapter 6 the fall, I believe the 6th room, right after you drop the box that jumps all over the place. I get in the elevator to go upto the next room, when as soon as the elevator goes up the screen goes black but never comes back on. The system is not frozen I can still hear footsteps (even though it doesnt sound like I can move very far), the sound of glass breaking, and the portal gun firing, yet I can not see anything. No matter where I try to save the game, nor going back and completing the prior level again I get the same black screen that I cant get passed. I've been to a couple other blogs and nobody else seems to have this problem but me. The disk is brand new and no scratches, and this has never nor does happen on any other game.

Some of these tests are so easy that you'll just think "Why didn't I think of that in the first place?!" But even after a swift kick in your own pants, you feel like a genius. Also, any word if you'll do a little cheat sheet for the trophies/achievements?

I thank you for the video walk though Mr Wilde, "Mann" Tyler. The two places I got stuck, it helped. I do appreciate the lack of ending also. Let those who want a spoiler for it wait till some one beats it and posts it

What a great guide, I tried not to use it, but there were some WTF areas. And then after I watched the video, I could have kicked myself in the ass on how simple it was to solve. Great job, Tyler!

    Thanks!

@VMPSaberwolf it's a trap! But you get an achievement/trophy for it

In Chamber 21, when you are given the option to flee after Wheatley opens a wall for you, there's a part where Glados reveals a test which I bypassed and kept running with Wheatley. Has anyone tried crossing the bridge Glados makes to get to that test? What happens if you do?

I am making this game take as long as I can... That's very hard! I'm on chapter 6 right now and I am absolutely in love with this game. I haven't even checked out co-op mode yet though! p.s. @Tyler: I've only watched a couple of videos but I'm very impressed! A full walkthrough so soon! I don't care if you haven't finished all of the writing part of it, this is excellent! Not that I want to use a walkthrough on any part of the game that I haven't played yet... unless I'm stuck on it for more than say... three days? :) p.p.s @Tyler: It makes me proud to be a gamesradar fan when the journalists (you) participate in the forums so much. Just saying!

Beautiful game, just finished it now... the characters, puzzles, jokes and end 'battle' just beautiful... I have to know how VALVE does it, I mean how the heck did they train me to think the way they wanted; the moon, The Moon, in no other game would have have looked up and thought 'of course the moon'. I'm stunned...

Proud that I've beaten the game without having to use the walkthrough. There were a few spots I had trouble on. @GamesRadarTylerWilde are there any clues in the videos on how to get some of the harder trophies like the rat man one?
  • quincytheodore - April 20, 2011 6:22 a.m.

I scrolled straight for comment section while, "Ahh, aghhh.. Spoiler.. don't wanna see.." I wonder how long I'll last before seeing this.. I didn't use in the first one, self-esteem +1, just because my friend didn't finish it. Hopefully, it stays that way.
  • WelcomeGhosts10 - April 20, 2011 2:47 a.m.

Not going to look at these, because I don't want spoilers, but wanted to comment and say good fucking work Tyler, goodness!
  • GamesRadarTylerWilde - April 20, 2011 12:05 a.m.

    @smashpro1 I don't think so.
  • smashpro1 - April 19, 2011 11:41 p.m.

Can Cave Johnson own any harder?
  • Tatts4Life - April 19, 2011 10:33 p.m.

@GamesRadarTylerWilde after my post I was able to figure out what to do. So far I haven't had to ;ook at the videos. I'll probably go back and look to see if I missed any trophies. Loving the game so far.
  • Roofmonkey - April 19, 2011 9:37 p.m.
