PokeWalkthrough

OREBURGH CITY AND THE FIRST GYM

When you get to Oreburgh City, head towards the gym. Your buddy is at the entrance, and he’ll inform you that the gym leader is nowhere to be found. Where could he be? He’s actually down south in the mines, but before going there, talk to the locals and, if you don’t have many, buy a couple potions at the Pokemart. A youngster in one of the buildings has a Great Ball for you, and a miner near the tunnel entrance will give you a Super Potion. There's a girl inside a house who will trade you an Abra for a Machop, but be forewarned that the Abra might not be very well-behaved until you get more badges.

ROUTE 207 POKEMON

Kricketot – Level 6 – Rare (nocturnal)
Machop – Levels 5-7 – Common
Geodude – Levels 5-7 - Abundant

You may also want to pop up north to route 207. Like 204, it’s a dead end for now, but Machops live in the shrubbery around there. They’ll be very useful in upcoming battles, so it’s a good idea to try and trap one now.

Now, head down into the mines.

MINE POKEMON

Geodude - Levels 5-10 - Abundant
Onix - Levels 8-9 - Rare
Zubat - Levels 7-8 - Uncommon

This actually isn’t a very large area, though the enemy encounters may give you problems if you aren’t prepared. Most of the wild pokemon you’ll encounter are Rock-type, and they’re weak against Grass, Water, and Fighting. Budew, Turtwig, Piplup, and Machop are all good choices for taking on these enemies. (You might also want to try for an Onix while you’re here). Head all the way downstairs to the southernmost part of the caves. You’ll find a guy in a hard hat – that’s Roark, the gym leader. He’ll invite you back up to challenge him. You can pick up some items and battle some of the other miners before heading back to the surface for your first Gym Battle. Make sure your Pokemon are healed fully, and that your anti-Rock-type pokemon are well trained (we recommend level 13 or higher).

OREBURGH GYM

If you want, you can fight two other Rock-type pokemon handlers before taking on Roark. They’re not too hard if you do opt to take them on, but they can also be completely avoided by taking a route that keeps out of their line of sight. Roark’s waiting for you with his Rock-type team, and he’s got a big surprise for you. Check out the movie below to see how we aced Roark’s challenge.

After winning the battle, you’ll receive the Coal Badge and TM76, Stealth Rock.

if u take mesprit down to minimal health it wil stay like that and wont recover, so if u get it that far and then use the map in the pokewatch to see it move around on the map moving between routes moves it around the map so if u find a spot where it goes and move between 2 routes u can gradually manuever it to ure area, once its there u can run around the grass and find it usually pretty easily, and since uve already taken its health down u just need to focus on catching it. After using mean look or arena trap effects and can sit a powerful pokemon out front and keep healing it while throwing as many ultra balls as u can if u follow this its pretty easy to capture it only took me a couple o attempts to do this nd not too long using level 50-60's Gd Luck

For Page 27 readers When trying to catch Mesprit, you may want to try using a move like Mean Look to make sure it cant escape or using a Pokemon like Trapinch from Ruby or Sapphire which has the ability "Arena Trap" so wild Pokemon cant escape from battle without making your Pokemon faint first. Hope they help!
