The guy with the big gut is not a trainer, he's just there to give you advice. Talk to him and he gives you HM04 which is Flash, and he also tells you were Steven went. Teach your pokemon Flash and go as deep as you can into the cave and there should be a dead end and a person. This is Steven. Then you go to Slateport. Go to the big building with the boats standing on those things for show. Talk to the guy closest to the door and he should take it out of your hands.

    Beginning Stuff

To find Prof. Birch, go to his house and visit with his son. Then go up the route to the north and you'll see that he's being chased by a Poochyena. He then says to pick a pokeball from his pouch and defeat the pokemon. Choose carefully because you're stuck with the pokemon you choose. i suggest you choose anything but Torchic because the 1st gym leader has rock type pokemon.
When you have to deliver the letter to Steven, don't look around Dewford all day. He's in granite cave. When you have to deliver the package to Captain Stern, you have to wait until Team Aqua moves so you can get into the museum. The Captain is on the second floor.
In the Trick House, the dude who's "watching you" is under the table. Go to the right side of the table on the top chair and press A. He will come out and challenge you to go through his Trick House. If you make it through (it's not hard), he will give you a rare candy. Duplicate it a bazillion times if you know how, and give it to your pokemon.
To the left of the trick house and up a little on the route there, your rival will be there. He will have a level 18 water pokemon, a level 20 fire/fighting pokemon, and the pokemon he started out with.

    Latios

Okay, after you beat the Elite Four you can catch Latios. It is a random event so you never know when you will run into it. If you have your Master Ball it is a perfect time to use it, because as soon as you throw a pokeball and he breaks free, he will have fled. Wynaut and Wobbuffet don't let him flee because of there ability, so if they attack, he will stay. But if you don't have your Master Ball, and used it on another pokemon, you are in for a fight! If you have seen it but didn't catch it don't fret. You have unlimited chances, and to find out where it is next, go to the pokedex and look under Latios and press Area. This will tell you where it is - but if you fly, surf, or ride your bike, it will move to another spot.

    Get Ten Master Balls

No, there is no 'surf on the side of Cinnabar Island' trick here. xD This one's a bit more complicated.

    1) Have all the Pokemon in your party at the same level and the same species (ex. 6 Poochyenas level 9).
    2) Have your Master Ball and nine Poke Balls in your ball pocket.
    3) Go to Route 28 and fight one of the Trainers.
    4) During the battle, attempt to use all nine of your Poke Balls (Bag->Balls->Poke Ball) on one of the Trainer's Pokemon. The Trainer will block the ball and accuse you of thievery (or something along those lines).
    5) Finish the battle (win).
    6) Wait for the Trainer to call you for a rematch with your PokeNav.
    7) When the Trainer fights you again, have the same Pokemon on the same level as before. Use your Master Ball on one of his/her Pokemon.
    8) Finish the battle (win).
    9) Save once.
    10) Save one more time. Only this time, when it says "saving...don't turn off the power," turn off the power.
    11) Check your inventory.

This process is long and somewhat annoying, but it is definitely worth the Master Balls. It only works once, however, so use the ten wisely.
