PlayStation 3 redesign ad points to Sept. 28 release

A new PlayStation 3 model rumored for announcement at Tokyo Game Show this week has been corroborated by a Polish electronics retailer. Polish gaming site Polygamia (via TheSixthAxis) posted a photo of an advertisement which teases a September 28 release date for the new model.

Polygamia states the hardware revision will come in 12 gigabyte SSD and 500 gigabyte HDD flavors for €199(about $260) and €299 (about $390), respectively. The so called "Super Slim" is rumored to have a top-loading disc drive and a smaller form factor than the PS3’s current Slim redesign.

GamesRadar will be on the scene in Tokyo with updates as they happen, so stay tuned for more news as the conference begins later this week.

Eagerly anticipating the possibility of an AC3 bundle. My PS3 broke last fall and I have been waiting for just the right deal/bundle/hardware to buy a new one. SOON!

That 12GB SSD is a typo right? It's supposed to be 120GB right?

Weirdly, the original report states 12GB, not 120GB. We shall see.

I dunno... how much space do you REALLY need when all your doing is playing games and watching tv?

You'd be surprised. A lot of PS3 games, especially older ones, need to be installed before to the system before playing. There's also system information, gave saves, updates, digital games, and DLC all of which add up to a lot of space. Not to mention the plentiful PS Plus freebies. inFAMOUS 2 alone takes up 15 Gb. I have a 500 Gb hard drive on my PS3 and it's almost half full.

Goddamnit, I really need to proofread my posts before posting them. Anyway, there's an extra 'before' in the second sentence that shouldn't be there and it should be 'games saves,' not 'gave saves.'

It sounds like ti should be, but I wouldn't be surprised. I mean, one of the original 360's shipped with just a 256MB memory card, didn't it?

Maybe it is the PS3 Mini and is sold for casual gamers who will only play a couple of things...

If the 500gb HDD is true, that would be awesome.
  • CrashmanX - September 17, 2012 4:31 p.m.

You can nab a regular 500GB HDD for like $50 and just upgrade your PS3 with that. It's made so you can do so easily. Also a 12GB SSD is really REALLY stupid. I hope the article meant 120GB SSD. That'd make much more sense than a 12GB Flash Drive.

Oh yeah. I wasn't planning on buying another PS3 just for the HDD space. I just think that that would be a good size for a starting HDD. My 160gb slim is getting close to full.

Cool. I still think the PS2 Slim is a work of art.
