Eurogamer writes: "Amid the deluge of information on World of Warcraft: Cataclysm released at BlizzCon this weekend were a few morsels on the content and changes coming in future patches. The most interesting were at Saturday's dungeons and raids panel: a preview of Icecrown Citadel, and news that Blizzard will introduce cross-server dungeon grouping.

The latter feature will be implemented for five-man dungeons at first, although the technology does support larger raids too. It will work much like the current queue system for player-versus-player Battlegrounds, and draw players from the same pools of servers in their region, known as Battlegroups."

Blizzard Entertainment's Rob Pardo revealed the planned features for Battle.net 2.0, which will launch in 2010 with StarCraft II and be incorporated into World of WarCraft. The biggest change is the introduction of what Blizzard is calling "Real ID" that should eliminate "smurfing" accounts and ensure better matchmaking. Games will be tied to a specific account much like Steam or other digital distribution services. Battle.net 2.0 will be free, however.

Pardo believes that the new matchmaking system is more powerful than Microsoft's TrueSkill and when paired with Real ID, it should help players of all skill levels get into games that they have a chance to win. On this point, the ladder system has been improved to take player skill into account. After a player completes around 10 games, they will be placed into a skill tier. Within each skill tier, the player is matched up with 99 other players in 100 player divisions. The focus of the season is on competing with these 99 other players with tournaments taking place at the end of each season between division leaders.
Unfortunately, only about five hundred people in the world truly understand how to play World of Warcraft properly. Luckily for you, I happen to be one of them.

Did you see how I just tried passing off nonsense as fact? Get used to it. Dogma plays an important role in the logic behind playing World of Warcraft properly. ...

Worldofwar.net has released a handful of articles in the past weeks revealing known lore of the South Seas, and analyzing how the World of Warcraft MMORPG's storylines, novels and manga have been leaving hints and breadcrumbs toward what the recent Cataclysm trademark might mean.

This time, WorldofWar.net adds a bit of lore from the World of Warcraft ongoing comic book series by Wildstorm that might shed some light about an upcoming catastrophe and a prophecy mentioned in the comic book.

Cho'gall and his Twilight's Hammer Clan serve the Old god C'thun who isn't completely dead. They want the son of Medivh the Last Guardian and Garona for a plan that will bring destruction to the world of Azeroth. Ulduar and the Hall of Lightning show a hologram of the world of Azeroth in which Kalimdor is broken in half and sundered underwater-- as shown in the image above.

Sounds like a big Cataclysm will soon shake the foundations of our favorite MMORPG.

"For a couple of week now, players of the MMO World of Warcraft have been impatiently waiting for the release of the new 3.2.0 patch. How do I know? Because I'm one of those bastards who've been constantly questioning when the hell the patch was going to come. I've even placed a couple of bets with some guildies, for crying out loud, as to when Blizzard was going to finally release the damn thing. Some speculated mid July, others the ending of July, and a few the beginning of August. Well, guess what, guildies of mine, I said it was going to be released early August and it happened. So, somone owes me a couple of thousand gold."

Activision Blizzard's World of Warcraft has been down for weeks in China, as the hugely popular MMORPG switches operators from The9 to NetEase -- though it has just relaunched to existing users in free, 'closed beta' form.

But Lazard Capital Markets analyst Colin Sebastian said in a Friday research note that the financial impact on Activision Blizzard from the downtime will be "modest," partly because Asia makes up just 6 percent of total worldwide World of Warcraft revenues, he estimated.

"While Asia accounts for roughly 50 percent of global users, we estimate the region contributes less than 10 percent of total WoW revenues, due to the licensing structure and timecard model," he wrote.
As a result, the local version of WoW has been down for roughly 6 weeks now, and it's looking unlikely that this embargo will be rising any time soon.

Due to strict rules regarding MMO's, and gaming in general, local distributors, or "operators" of foreign games have to submit the game to the government for review of new content. The government, unsurprisingly, didn't like what they saw in Blizzard's latest refresh of the 3 year old title."

"It was discovered on the PTR before Blizzard confirmed it, but it's there anyway: players will be able to learn Cold Weather Flying at level 68 in World of Warcraft.

More specifically, players can buy a heirloom item with a current level 80, and pass it on to an alt, allowing that alt to learn Cold Weather Flying at 68 instead of having to wait until 77."

Worldofwar.net has an article about the lore behind Isle of Kezan, the homeland of the goblins located in the South Seas. This article is in response to the recent rumors surrounding the new trademark filed by Blizzard Entertainment. Cataclysm matches perfectly with events that transpired in Azeroth ten thousand years ago which caused the Great Sundering and the implosing of the Well of Eternity. The scar of that cataclysm is known as the Maelstrom, a vortex of raw arcane magic in the middle of the Great Sea.
In short, 2v2 arenas can still be used as a stepping stone for gear into the higher arena brackets - but weapons, shoulders, and the race for Gladiator will only be available to 3s and 5s."

When asked by VideoGamer.com to explain the changes Patch 3.2 will bring to the Death Knight, game director Tom Chilton said:

"More than anything else we're just trying to make sure we balance Death Knights relative to everybody else. Of course we want Death Knights to feel like an awesome powerful class, just like any other class.

"People mention the fact that they're a hero class, but to us what that means is, well, they have their own special starting experience – they start at level 55, which is very heroic compared to other characters. But that doesn't mean that at the end game they're supposed to be more powerful. We've found there were areas of the game we felt like they were just too strong, so we're trying to balance them just like we would any other character class."
