World of Warcraft: Wrath of the Lich King

Also known as: WoW:WotLK

Step into the front lobby at Blizzard Entertainment’s main office in Irvine, California, and you’ll see the Blizzard Museum to your left. The intimate room hosts many game awards, art, and concept designs for the studio’s many great games. However, take a closer look – and you’ll see a very special note from the parents of Mike Morhaime, president and co-founder of Blizzard Entertainment…

This week's giveaway includes two mighty mugs fresh from Undercity and Orgrimmar. But these are no run of the mill mugs - the Orgrimmar conveyance hath serviced the maw of Garrosh Hellscream while the Undercity tankard hath had only the finest undead meads sipped through the lips of Sylvanas Windrunner. At least that's what the Wiki tells me, because I have no idea what any of that crap means.

We love horses. But we’re not sure if we love them enough to pay $25 so our WoW Priest can have a new in-game mount to ride. Yesterday, two new in-game pets for World of Warcraft were recently added to Blizzard’s online Pet Store. Currently, the most popular item of the two seems to be the Celestial Steed. According to the official product description, the Celestial Steed lets you “travel in style astride wings of pure elemental stardust” and allows players to travel at “310% speed.” In case you don’t play WoW, this means that this is a very fast mount.

It didn’t take long before wow.com starting diving into the numbers. Based on the price and the amount of players queued up to download the digital pet, the site estimated that Blizzard raked in $2 million just four hours after the Celestial Steed went on sale. The popularity and profitability of Blizzard’s recent sale has once again sparked the debate over DLC, with pet-loving collectors on one side and the anti-DLC crowd on the other…

Warcraft is now 15 years old, and few have been more instrumental in its development than Chris Metzen. Starting on the original game as an animator, he moved over to writing and design with Warcraft II and has been responsible for expanding the story and lore since Blizzard decided to turn its real-time strategy game into a massively multiplayer epic. He’s now Blizzard’s vice president of creative development.

Food: In World of Warcraft, it’s good for the health and it’s good for the mana. But why should your avatar be the only one who gets to sample Azeroth’s most savory dishes? Meet Irillys, a Tauren Shaman on the Bloodscalp realm (in real life, Guinevere Mee); she’s on a culinary quest to make World of Warcraft’s in-game fantasy food a reality. Her first project, The Tauren Chef Cookbook, offers easy to follow recipes based on and inspired by food in the game

Blizzard loves its Easter eggs, and so do we. There are literally hundreds of hidden references to popular movies, television shows, music, and videogames. There are even nods to classic literature for you wordy types. Here’s a collection of some of our favorites along with details on how to hunt them down.
