Following last month's closure of Midway Newcastle, the development team responsible for The Wheelman, it has today been revealed that the remainder of Midway's UK business has been purchased for approximately £0.50 (GBP). Midway's managing director for Europe, Martin Spiess, has negotiated the bargain deal, which sees him buy both the Midway Games France and UK offices for 1 Euro, around £0.86 at the time of writing.

UK videogame releases for March 23rd to 27th sees the release of the Midway/Ubisoft title, Wheelman and Playstation Network title, Burn Zombie Burn arrives mid-week. Don King's boxing title arrives on the Wii and DS along with Afro Samurai on Xbox 360 and PS3. Please note, release dates are about as reliable as a priest stuck in traffic behind two nuns in a Skoda, so don't take them as gospel. This is what we've been told.

Today Midway released three new screens for Wheelman and announced that the official Web site for the game has been updated in preparation for the game's worldwide release, now scheduled for March 20.

Game companies have been announcing holiday products for the last few weeks and today marked the first day that PWN or DIE started receiving our virtual Christmas cards from the various games. Midway Games sent a Wheelman holiday card which featured Vin Diesel in a Santa outfit while Activision and Radical sent a nice little video greeting from the game Prototype featuring Alex Mercer.

Today Midway released an all-new, adrenaline-fueled cinematic trailer for the upcoming action-packed open world driving game Wheelman. XE also has seven brand new screenshots.

Wheelman creative director Simon Woodroffe has told VideoGamer.com that he thinks sandbox gaming elements such as bowling and dating in Grand Theft Auto IV are boring and not developed enough to warrant replaying. Yeah, there are elements of GTA in the game - and there are certainly elements of Burnout. I think our driving, the accessibility and the speed of it... that's more Burnout than GTA. But we've got an open world, a compelling story and a whole bunch of side missions - and those things are all GTA, Woodroffe told VideoGamer.com at a recent London press event. We don't have a sandbox - you can't go bowling or go on a date. All that stuff is all well and good, but personally it doesn't appeal to me. It seems like a good idea but actually it's quite boring after a while, because in all of those mini-games, the micro-mechanics haven't been developed to a level where you'd want to play them over and over again.

Midway has announced that the upcoming Action-Packed Open-World Driving Game Featuring Vin Diesel will be shipping in North America and Europe next February.
