PC - Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning - Console Warhammer Online would be a 'different game' Speaking to VideoGamer.com Paul Barnett, Warhammer Online creative director, revealed that Mythic did look at bringing the game to console around two years ago but put those discussions on hold to concentrate on the PC game.

Barnett said: "We had a good look at the console about two years ago. The position we ended up with was it would have to be a different game. That's basically where we ended up with our thinking. And then Mark (Jacobs, Mythic co-founder) basically went 'I don't want to think about it yet. Stop thinking about it'. If Mark wakes up and decides we're going to do a console version then you'll get one as fast as possible. Just write a letter direct to Mark. 'I would very much like a console version. Please please please make one. Make it for this console'. He'll probably write back to you then and let you know. He's very good like that. Read his blog."

PC - Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning - WAR Online dev promises EU fans smooth Thursday launch Paul Barnett, creative director of MMORPG Warhammer Online, has promised European players that developer Mythic is "trying really hard" to ensure sign-up problems experienced in the open beta are not repeated when the game is officially released this Thursday.

In an interview with VideoGamer.com Barnett moved to reassure fans that Mythic is doing everything it can to prevent a repeat performance later this week.

He said: "That was one of those things where you go 'it's definitely going to work, everything on paper says it's going to work, oh my God it's melted!'. It's better that it happened in the sign up beta period than it happened live. What it did do was make a lot of humble pie, and a lot of knuckles got wrapped and a lot of people were told to make sure it never ever happens again. So thank the lords, the Lords of Chaos, that it didn't happen on live live, it only happened on pretend live."

He added: "Everyone's working really hard, and if it happens again we're going to feed people to sharks. Probably German sharks because they would be very efficient. We're very unhappy that it was bumpy. We're happy that we've punished people and tried really hard to do it better."

PC - Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning - WAR open beta struggles in Europe Eurogamer Reports: "GOA, the European publisher and operator of Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning, has issued a public apology for the false start to its open beta test yesterday.

Although servers have opened, and closed beta testers have been able to enter the new phase without any problems, account registration and authentication for new players is not working.

"I rarely address players directly, but I wanted to write you as too few of you have been able to access the open beta today," said GOA's chief executive, Ghislaine Le Rhun, on the European WAR site.

"We have not yet solved the issue of saturated Open Beta key activations that we're currently experiencing," Le Rhun said. "I am sincerely sorry for this, and I understand all the frustration the situation has spawned."

PC - Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning - Electronic Arts Can't Process Address Change, Cancels Your Sold-Out Pre-Ordered Collector's Edition Of Warhammer A customer who pre-ordered the collector's edition of Warhammer Online up to eight months in advance has found his requests to change his shipping address denied and subsequently, when he complained, had his order cancelled by Electronic Arts, according to a report by the Consumerist.

Citing a customer referred to as Micah, EA is said to have sent all its pre-orders to a processing facility outside of their direct control - claiming they can only cancel orders not amend them - consequently any customers who wish to change their details are denied and left with the only option of cancelling their orders for the now sold-out collector's edition.

"So it's either cancel my order and don't receive the now sold-out collector's edition, or just let it ship to a place I don't live," complained Micah. "It seems there should be some way of contacting the fulfilment agency if you're going to release a pre-sell of a collector's edition eight months before the game even comes out."

PC - Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning - Mythic: Activision Estimate That It Takes $1 Billion To Compete With 'World Of Warcraft' Is Overblown MTV Multiplayer's Tracey John writes:

"Mythic VP and lead "Warhammer Online" designer Mark Jacobs said it wouldn't take a billion dollars for a competing MMO to take on "World of Warcraft" - maybe only $100 million.

"When certain people throw out ridiculous numbers, you know they're throwing out ridiculous numbers because they want to scare off competition or they want to make themselves seem invincible and that sort of nonsense," he said, referring to a statement Activision Blizzard CEO Bobby Kotick made at an investor meeting earlier this year.

"Realistically, if you're going into this space for the first time, and you want to compete with 'WoW' and you want to compete with us - because we're going into that same space - you've got to make sure that you have at least 100 million dollars," he said.

When I sat down with Jacobs last week during a demo of the game, we talked about what makes an MMO successful. Having worked in the industry creating MUDs in the '80s, online games in the '90s, and Mythic's biggest hit "Dark Age of Camelot" in 2001, he had some advice for those wanting to make it in the MMO business.

So why is $100 million the magic number?"

PC - Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning - IGDA Blasts Mythic Over Warhammer Crediting Edge writes: "IGDA chairperson and 38 Studios VP of business development Jen MacLean has criticized Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning developer Mythic for its decision not to credit the MMORPG's full development team.

Mythic recently announced plans to only credit developers currently employed with the studio, a move that has disappointed the IGDA, which is in favor of an industry-wide standard for game credits.

"This policy is disrespectful of the effort of the game developers who worked on the game, and misleads both consumers and game industry peers," wrote MacLean in the IGDA's August newsletter."
