Over the past few days Steam has seen a number of new titles and special offers. Game-Pad.net summarise some of the main releases and bargains this weekend.

Digital games service Good Old Games is now offering its catalog of Unreal titles for a bit less money. Four of the games in the venerable series are 15% cheaper for the rest of the week.

The free Unreal Tournament III Black weekend announced by Epic Games has begun and is now available for anyone with a Steam account to play through Sunday. Additionally, the game and the Unreal Deal Pack bundle have been given a 50% discount to celebrate the event.

From the dystopian corridors of BioShock's subterranean paradise to the Strogg-infested space stations found throughout the Quake franchise, First Person Shooters have found countless ways to establish themselves as rich, enjoyable experiences, capturing the hearts and trigger fingers of gamers worldwide. Even if it's just blasting away wave after wave of demons in Blood, or perhaps saving mankind from itself as you traverse Half-Life 2's City 17, the FPS genre has proven itself time and time again.

Retro game digital distributor Good Old Games just nabbed the venerated Unreal series for its game library. They've entered an agreement with Epic Games to sell four games from the first-person shooter franchise.

Legendary Pictures, the film production company that is currently co-financing the Gears of War film adaption, is currently in talks to buy Gears developer Epic Games, according to Variety. The report has apparently been corroborated by multiple sources, though neither company involved has issued any official statements. Variety notes that if the deal closes, Legendary will become the first film financier to invest directly in a game developer.

Epic Games and Valve have set off the PR fireworks this morning, revealing that the Unreal developer's vast catalogue of, erm, Unreal games are now available for purchase through Steam. The Epic shooters now available on Steam include Unreal Gold, Unreal II: The Awakening and every Unreal Tournament EVER made (apart from, oddly, Unreal Tournament 2003 - perhaps Epic wants to forget about that one?) CVG reports: Epic's Unreal Tournament III demo for PC will feature three maps and two of game's six multiplayer modes, it's being reported. Deathmatch and Vehicle Capture the Flag are the modes that will be included, Epic deciding to leave biggie Warfare out. Warfare's a new mode for UT. It's a combination of Assault and Onslaught modes from previous games in the series, and it involves two teams battling for control of nodes on a map and ultimately trying to destroy the opposition's core. Anyway, apparently one of the levels will definitely be Deathmatch map HeatRay - a destroyed urban environment that features a lone DarkWalker which is dropped in at specified times during the match - while a second is likely Deathmatch level ShangriLa which features Asian-themed architecture. A final and third level will be Vehicle Capture the Flag map Suspense, which is set on a huge suspension bridge and the action occurring on, above and below the structure. Epic said earlier in the week that it hopes to have the demo out within two weeks.

Punching home a message that Midway is coming to the next-generation with a full stable of goods, the Chicago-based publisher today announced that the game formerly known as Unreal Tournament 2007 is now Unreal Tournament 3. And it's coming to the PC, PlayStation 3 and Microsoft's Xbox 360 in the second half of 2007.
