PC - Unreal Tournament III - FS: Why No Unreal Tournament Demo For The PS3? During a press event today at Epic's offices in Cary, North Carolina, Epic VP Mark Rein confirmed that they have no plans to offer a PS3 demo of the game. The reason is that Epic is concentrating on finishing the full PS3 version of the game, which like all PS3 games requires a certification from Sony before going gold. Since demos for the PS3 also require a certification from Sony, Rein told FS that it would take too much time from finishing the full game to also create a demo that would also need Sony's stamp of approval.

PC - Unreal Tournament III - GamerMetrics: Unreal Tournament III for Xbox 360 Delayed over Halo Hype? IGN Entertainment's latest GamerMetrics report that among the nearly 15,000 gamers surveyed, the Xbox 360 version of Midway's Unreal Tournament III (UT3) has emerged with the strongest affinity to fans of Halo 3.

Based on the survey result, the report speculates that if the Xbox 360 version of UT3 had launched in November at the same time with its PS3 and PC versions, it might have been buried under an avalanche of Halo hype. But releasing it next year ensures that it will reach Halo 3 fans at a time when they might become more receptive. The report posits that the postponed release of the Xbox 360 version might have been a wise strategic move on the part of Midway President and CEO David Zucker.

PC - Unreal Tournament III - Epic Confirms No Unreal Tournament 3 PC-to-PS3 Online; Other UT3 Details Shared Much ado has been made about the potential presence of cross-platform play in Epic Games' upcoming multiplayer-heavy shooter Unreal Tournament 3 (PC, PS3, X360). The most likely compatible platforms have been PC and PlayStation 3, as the Xbox 360 version has taken a development backseat and the PS3's approach to network architecture is more conducive to the kind of freedom Epic would want for such a service. PS3, unlike Xbox 360, also supports mouse and keyboard controls, which would allow for a more potentially level playing field between users of the two platforms.

Still, in an IRC chat conducted yesterday featuring numerous members of Epic's UT3 team, Epic VP Mark Rein finally confirmed that the game will not feature cross-platform multiplayer -- at least at launch.

PC - Unreal Tournament III - UT 3 map named, winner will be listed in the credits; new concept art Epic Games appealed to the community for a great name for a CTF map. From sixty names the developer team picked their top five:

CTF-FracturedWorlds
CTF-Icarus (been used before, but such a good fit)
CTF-Ionosphere
CTF-OmicronDawn
CTF-TaintedDawn

Finally they have chosen CTF-OmicronDawn, the name that were suggested by keyrat, who will be listed in the Unreal Tournament 3 credits.

Epic has a capture the flag map that needs a name, and thought they would turn to you for great ideas. They are starting with an open call for name suggestions. They are giving everyone until (9/10/07), then Epic will pick their favorite.

Here's some tips on how Epic chooses a name:

No PS3 UT demo pre-release N4G

PC - Unreal Tournament III - No PS3 UT demo pre-release Epic Games' Mark Rein says we shouldn't expect an Unreal Tournament 3 demo for PS3 before the game's release in November, but a PC one will happen.

"We'll have a PC demo for UT, [but] I don't think we'll have a PS3 demo before the game ships," Rein told Eurogamer during Games Convention.

Rein likened the PS3 situation to the one that Epic faced with Gears of War prior to its release. "What we told Microsoft last year - they wanted a demo for Gears of War and we said 'you've got a choice - you can have the demo this year or the game this year'."

PC - Unreal Tournament III - Mark Rein on UE3 and PS3 Mark Rein has responded to the recent rumors about UE3 on PS3 problems and UT3 running 60fps at GC in a forum post in which he states that, "Epic heard that same kind of silliness about UE3 on Xbox 360 before we shipped Gears of War and we all know how that turned out."

He continues to say that :

"The only way to silence the uninformed critics is to ship the games and let them play them for themselves. We're continually optimizing our engine on all supported platforms and we will continue to do so for several years into this generation. What we ship on PC and PS3 this fall will be considerably better than the builds we're showing here at Games Convention in every aspect."
