Nov 8, 2007 There's been a lot of excellent shooters releasing recently, but we still have Unreal Tournament 3 to look forward to later this November. It looks like what will make UT 3 a blast will be the same things that made its many predecessors the choicest shooters for so many headshot-hungry frag-fiends over the years. PC - Unreal Tournament III - UT3 PC Euro date confirmed Unreal Tournament 3 will be released in Europe for the PC on 23rd November, Midway confirmed this afternoon ahead of an official launch event in sunny Birmingham tomorrow.

Sadly there's no word on the PS3 version as of yet, with a Midway spokesperson telling Eurogamer that Epic Games calls the shots on that one and we'll know when they decide to tell us.

PC - Unreal Tournament III - UT3 invades Germany a week earlier and without gore A number of German PC websites have received a press release from Midway Germany stating that Unreal Tournament 3 will be released in Germany on 12 November:

"We want to thank the true German fans of this franchise with the early release. And that the German community added a huge part of the UT franchise's sucess in the past."

Keep in mind this will be the slightly altered, less violent version of Unreal Tournament 3 as required by German law. In addition to the removal of gore, this version features German text/speech and will not be multilingual.

PC - Unreal Tournament III - Midway: PS3 Tech Issues Over, 'Ambitious Open-World Game' Coming Soon Elsewhere in the call following its results, Midway CEO David F. Zucker said the company has learned from the development process of Stranglehold and Unreal Tournament 3, and that the company's multiplatform releases would be more promptly synchronized going forward.

The Midway CEO concluded of the issues: "We do believe that these technical issues are now complete at a core level in our engine. Looking ahead to 2008, we expect the PS3 versions of our titles to ship day and date..." with the Xbox 360 and other SKUs.

Zucker hinted at an "ambitious open-world game" from Midway, to be announced shortly, and said to be one of the highlights of their upcoming slate. However, no other information was given.

PC - Unreal Tournament III - Midway Announces Increased Revenues, Losses Major publisher Midway Games has announced that, for the three-month period ending September 30, 2007, its sales totaled $36.7 million, up from $27.4 million last year. At the same time, however, the company reported losses of $33.5 million, increased from $22.5 million in 2006.

As for highlights, the company said that Xbox 360 and PC title Stranglehold has exceeded 1 million units shipped worldwide across all platforms, and the company anticipates shipping Stranglehold for the PS3 in Europe in the latter part of November.

Midway also highlighted its recent demo of Unreal Tournament 3 in conjunction with developer Epic Games, since a demo of Unreal Tournament 3 for the PC was recently released, and has remained one of the top 2 most downloaded games on FilePlanet.com since it was released on October 12th. However, the PS3 version of the title is still due in 2008, as confirmed earlier last month.

"We created a fix for the game not starting up on Windows XP 64 and Windows Server 2003 systems. This patch has not undergone the same amount of QA as the released demo so I strongly encourage to ONLY replace the UT3Demo.exe with the one from the patch if you are experiencing the "Modified executable code is not allowed" issue at startup," the developers ... » Read More

PC - Unreal Tournament III - UT3 is coming to 360, Epic reaffirms Responding to a reported quote from Epic president Mike Capps that Unreal Tournament 3 was "just on PS3," VP Mark Rein has reaffirmed to CVG that the deathmatch shooter is still coming to Xbox 360 next year.

"We are going to release UT3 on Xbox 360 in 2008," confirmed Rein.

Regarding the game's performance, Rein explained, "I would think most of the people who read CVG would actually be able to get a great experience with Unreal Tournament III. We spent a considerable amount of time and effort making sure that gamers will be able to enjoy UTIII even with older gaming rigs," he added.

PC - Unreal Tournament III - UT III demo out, patched Epic's Unreal Tournament III demo hit the internet late last Friday, and the release has been quickly followed by a patch. The update is for a Windows XP 64-bit and Windows Server 2003-related error.

"We created a fix for the game not starting up on Windows XP 64 and Windows Server 2003 systems. This patch has not undergone the same amount of QA as the released demo so I strongly encourage to ONLY replace the UT3Demo.exe with the one from the patch if you are experiencing the "Modified executable code is not allowed" issue at startup", the developer's explained in a forum post.

The patch can be downloaded via the CVG source.
