Turns out despite the huge brand name and near universal critical acclaim, Tomb Raider Underworld just didn't sell as well as they had predicted, so it's time to tap that lucrative family market.

But Eidos don't need to spend thousands on a marketing consultant - we've done all the hard work for them and drawn up new versions of Lara. Indeed, one for every member of the family. ...

One of the best things about gaming on the PC is that mods can breathe new life youre your older titles.
Dec 3, 2007

It could well turn out that Tomb Raider Underworld is the name Eidos will slap on Lara Croft's next adventure.

Reports indicate that the publisher has filed for trademark of the phrase 'Tomb Raider Underworld' with the Patent and Trademark Office.

'Underworld' has led to speculation that the new Tomb Raider game may find Croft mixing it up with seedy criminal elements, but it could of course just be a reference to the core of the sequel involving underground antics. Either way, ...
According to Rule 34, if it exists, there is porn of it. There are some exceptions of course. For example, we're glad there aren't any nude Little Sister mods for BioShock. However, for some characters, it's only a matter of time until nakedness strikes in the form of a nude mod or patch. But really, how much time are we talking about? If you've never wondered if Alyx Vance kept her clothes on longer than Lara Croft, it's probably for the best. Otherwise, see the video, download ...
One of the best in-gags in gaming history is the "Lara Nude Cheat." For all the old Tomb Raider games, Core would leak a cheat that claimed to turn Lara naked. In reality, once you'd managed to pull off the complex moves, your only reward was to watch your heroine violently explode with a scream, her arms, legs and head flying off in different directions.

Gone are such innocent times, thanks to the mod scene. Now you can have Lara look any way you wish in TR: Anniversary (sorry ...
1) Wrecking the T-Rex
During the first few hours of play, you'd be forgiven for thinking that Tomb Raider's bestiary of enemies is nothing other than the stuff of National Geographic - bears, wolves, crocodiles and the like. Push on to The Lost World area though, and Anniversary gets Jurassic on your ass, dropping you into the path of an enraged, prehistoric Goliath with teeth like kitchen knives. And Lara takes it down with just her ...

Industry veteran Ian Livingstone thinks that game developers need more character. The Eidos product acquisition director, speaking at the Edinburgh Interactive Festival 2007, told the audience that characters were extremely important not just in games, but also as intellectual properties that can then be used in other products.
Were all aware of the slow decline and sudden rebirth of Tomb Raider, but here it is again, in a nutshell. Excellent first game spins wildly into quickly released sequels, and a world of boobalicious merchandise. Lara Croft gets her own press office, while the quality of the games degrade into unfinished, repetitive crap. Lara jumped, then flipped mid-air and shot a number of sharks with Angel of Darkness. Then, she was unexpectedly resuscitated on the other side of a number of sharks when ...

Tomb Raider: Anniversary demo has been released. Download links can be found below the news at Alternative Sources.

GameSpot is premiering the demo version of the game, and they have new details on what's in the demo, as well as what's planned for the final game, from executive producer Matthew Guzenda.

GameSpot: Let's talk about the demo. What level are you showcasing, and where was it taken from in the game? Can you give us some setup as to what's going on?

Matthew Guzenda: The demo starts at one of my personal favorite spots from the first game, which was the waterfall in the first level. This is about a third of the way through the first level, which is set in Peru. Lara's there searching for part of an ancient artifact called the Scion.

Tomb Raider creator Ian Livingstone revealed that Paramount Pictures are considering whether to make a follow-up to 2003's The Cradle Of Life which would have Angelina Jolie playing Lara Croft once again.

Livingstone who recently completed the latest game in the series, Tomb Raider: Anniversary, said that when Paramount see how successful the new game is it will show that the world is still interested in the franchise. That could be enough for the final go ahead to be given.

Considering the high percentage of bad game to movie conversions will gamers really be looking forward to seeing Lara Croft on the big screen once again?
It's a privilege normally only afforded to games journalists and writers - the opportunity to play games before anyone else. In fact, it's the biggest perk we get. Well, that, and the odd free pint.

And now, in conjunction with Eidos, we're giving one Tomb Raider fan and three of their mates the chance to visit Eidos (home of Tomb Raider) and play Lara Croft Tomb Raider Anniversary three days before the game is released.

For months, our peeks at Tomb Raider: Anniversary have been limited to sitting by and watching as others guided archaeologist Lara Croft past slippery cliffs and crumbling traps. We've seen the re-imagined version of the original Peru level countless times, and even caught a glimpse of the ruins she'll tackle in Egypt. But now we've had our first chance to try out the PS2 version of the globe-trotting adventure for ourselves, and we're impressed.

As you'd probably expect, Anniversary - a ...
Yesterday, we left you at the point where we'd met the undead in our Egypt walkthrough. Now we'll take you further into this awesome new Tomb Raider: Anniversary level as we wrap up our week-long preview.

As the undead foes hit the ground and fade away, again the sense of isolation hits you. Everything is still again, except for the swirling sand and glistening reflections from the water around the obelisk in the middle of the courtyard. You can see an artifact high above you, but the puzzle ...
So you've heard all about the game from the developer's point of view, but what's it actually like? We were given an exclusive walkthrough of the new Egypt level at Eidos' London office and came away with an excited feeling. Why excited? Well, everything we liked about Tomb Raider Legend is still there. The tight controls, the lush graphics and the brilliant physics are all in place. But now it's been given more of the things that made Tomb Raider so unique in the first place. And we didn't see ...
Welcome to Part 3 of our week-long Tomb Raider: Anniversary blowout. Today, we conclude our interview with game designer Jason Botta as he talks about the new Egypt level and the game's special bonus features.

How has Egypt changed in comparison to the original game?

The Egypt level is actually very, very similar to the original in the puzzles, the scope and the layout of things. Our approach to all of the levels was to go back, play look through and look at all of the areas from the original ...
Welcome to Part 2 of our Tomb Raider Anniversary coverage. Crystal Dynamics game designer Jason Botta is ready to talk us through the changes the team has made to one of the original Tomb Raider's most memorable levels - the Lost Valley. Bring your dino-hunting hat...

How has the Lost Valley changed from the original game?

Actually in the original game it didn't really work - it was actually supposed to be a valley with the open sky above but, because of the limitations of the hardware, lots ...
1) Fighting a T-Rex

Having dispatched with a couple of troublesome Raptors, Lara finds herself on the run from an oddly polygonal Tyrannosaurus Rex.

Can I do it in Anniversary?

Oh yes. The T-Rex battles will be Anniversarys action core.

2) The Swan Dive

Lara calmly walks to the edge of the cliff, then - with surprising grace for one so unaerodynamically designed - swan dives into the clear blue water below. Its a stunning moment.

Can I do it in Anniversary?

Yes you will. Expect arching, ...

Eidos has announced that Lara Croft Tomb Raider: Anniversary is due for release in 2007. The game is inspired by the original Tomb Raider game, and will be released on PlayStation 2, PSP and PC.

"We've captured the essence of what made the original game so special and with today's technology, created a game that pushes the boundaries of the current gaming consoles. Tomb Raider :Anniversary is a special celebration of Lara's reign as videogaming's leading lady", said Ian Livingstone, Eidos.

Anniversary will make use of an enhanced version of the impressive Tom Raider: Legend engine, and will use today's technology to retell the original story. The lack of a next-gen version is a little disappointing, but the PlayStation 2 version of Legend was impressive in its own right, so Tomb Raider fans shouldn't be disappointed.
The rumor has finally come true, for today publisher Eidos has confirmed that the original Tomb Raider will be remade and renamed as Tomb Raider: Anniversary. And to celebrate this being 10 years since Lara's 1996 debut, the remake will appear on PS2, PC and PSP in, um... 2007.

Being billed as "a completely new gameplay experience," Anniversary will use an enhanced version of the engine beneath Tomb Raider: Legend and promises to do more than merely shove the original title through a ...

Cheer up, Tomb Raider fans! It turns out the 10th anniversary remake of Lara's first adventure hasn't been cancelled after all - and it won't just be appearing on PSP, either.

Rumours that the game was cancelled emerged after a statement appeared on Core Design's website saying that it was cancelled.

But that's not the case at all, according to SCi-Eidos. They've issued a statement saying that Tomb Raider: 10th Anniversary Edition is very much in development - and will appear on PC and PS2 as well as Sony's handheld.
