Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter

Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter

We got hands-on with the shooter that made us feel like geniuses for buying a video card instead of an Xbox 360

Recklessly sprinting out the back of a C-130 Hercules airlift, we plunge headfirst into a thick white cloud. We are now what the US Army calls "Herky Turds" - Airborne soldiers who drop from the sky to fight anytime, anywhere. Emerging out of the mist at 20,000 feet, the sprawling expanse of Mexico City before us looks like a satellite photograph. Hurtling towards the ground at 120mph, our eagle-eyed view quickly becomes a close-up picture-postcard; it's time to pop the 'chute. The first-person tactical shooter Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter is back on the PC, and it's a wild ride, folks.

The sky-to-ground parachute drop immediately told us that this wasn't simply a console port of GRAW. The mountain of extra goodies that Ubisoft is gifting to the PC crowd makes us recall fondly that the original Ghost Recon was a PC game - that is, it was only on the PC. Forget that RPG-esque third-person nonsense - you are firmly strapped into your combat boots, in first-person. It's time to take down some terrorists here, not admire your sexy backside.

While serving up the same basic storyline, GRAW on the PC takes every feature from the Xbox 360 version and makes what they did on that monstrously successful console version look half-assed. Example: both versions contain a built-in helmet cam called the Cross-com that you can not only see through, but that highlights enemy positions, as well - very crucial for survival.
