As promised, CD Projekt has released the version 1.5 update for their fantasy role-playing game, The Witcher.

In order to install patch v1.5 correctly, you will need to have original Witcher game upgraded to v1.4 (Enhanced edition).

Co-founders Michal Kicinski and Marcin Iwinski will represent Poland in the worldwide final competition in Monte Carlo in June.

CD Projekt was founded in 1994, generating money from game distribution in Eastern and Central Europe. The company made its game development debut only last year, with CD Projekt RED's acclaimed PC RPG The Witcher, which has sold over 1 million copies."

Edge writes: "PC gaming is taking a beating from consoles in terms of revenue, if your packaged goods, Western-centric attitude is to be believed.

But in an environment where PC gaming appears to be in an uphill battle against accessible consoles, wonky system requirements and--gasp--piracy, Poland-based CD Projekt's development debut, the PC RPG The Witcher, has been able to sell 1 million copies worldwide in the 12 months since its release.

And why wouldn't it be a commercial success? With such a mainstream license from best-selling Polish author Andrzej Sapkowski portrayed in a single-player PC RPG, The Witcher was a sure-fire hit all along."
It's a beefy 1.2gb and there's a mirror here.

I'm grinding my way through the Enhanced Edition at the moment and finding The Witcher to be an uneven experience. There's plenty to like about it - especially with Polish voice-acting and English subtitles glossing over the dodgy dialogue - the grim art style, decaying fantasy world, and general melee combat are all to my tastes. The mechanical elements of the RPG, however, are less slick. It's full of annoyances in the way some quests are structured, as well as they way character development is introduced. These needed as much of an overhaul as the cosmetic stuff the Enhanced Edition dealt with. And sex cards thing? Wow. That's so, so crass. I'll probably write some more on this when I've managed to get myself unstuck from the end of the first chapter."
