Supreme Commander

Supreme Commander - faction playtest

Getting nuked is disturbingly pretty

Though you'll have access to three distinct factions in the final - United Earth Federation humans, Cybran Nation cyborgs, and the alien-affected Aeon Illuminate - we were only able to mess with the UEF campaign. The preliminary sense is that Supreme Commander is shaping up to be a pretty solid RTS, existing on a massive scale, though we're not quite jumping up and down about it just yet.

The first thing that grabs you is that there's no button to switch from the main screen to the game's map - thanks to the software muscle under the hood, the main screen is the map screen. Sharp-edged tech-style readouts frame the outer edges, and the camera's height is under your total control. Zoom down until you're practically kissing dirt or roll your mousewheel back - way back - to get a utilitarian satellite shot of absolutely everything on the planet.
