Phil Elliott of GamesIndustry.biz writes:

"An in-game advertising campaign run by Government Communications Headquarters (GCHQ) last year in two Tom Clancy videogames prompted a 500 per cent increase in activity on the related recruitment web site, it has been revealed.

The campaign, which featured billboards advertising careers at GCHQ in Ubisoft titles Splinter Cell: Double Agent and Rainbow Six: Vegas, ran for a month and was managed by TMP Worldwide, according to a report in Recruiter.

Kate Clemens, head of GCHQ's digital strategy at TMP, stated that she felt the campaign had been successful as a general profile-raising exercise, with traffic increasing from around 500-600 people per day visiting the "Careers in British Intelligence" site to between 4000 and 7000."
Science (by which we mean the few 'facts' we've picked up on Wikipedia) suggests that gaming improves hand-eye-coordination and problem solving. Even so, defeating alien invasions or rearranging pipes to hack vending machines isn't going to bag you a career. Or is it?

In actual fact, it seems online gaming might land you a job as a spook. The government's secret services have teamed up with in-game ad company Massive, and during October they aim to target recruitment adverts at ...
Thursday 11 May 2006
Ubisoft has been keeping us updated with the latest on Splinter Cell Double Agent and has slipped us some new pics of Sam Fisher looking rugged and doing bad things.

Double Agent is the fourth game in the hugely popular Splinter Cell series and sees the game take a brave new direction with hero Sam Fisher trying to infiltrate a terrorist group to be able to take them down from within.

It's up to the gamer just how far they're willing to let Sam Fisher go in order to gain ...
