Kotaku's Brian Crecente writes:

"Our first-ever Game of the Year awards was a pretty straight forward deal. I asked all of the writers to submit a list of three games for each category and the three that showed up most in each category made it as a finalist. Once we had the list of finalists I asked each writer to go through and order the finalists and then tallied the vote. The one with the most points was named Game of the Year, the runner-up was named Not Quite Game of the Year. The game with the most votes for Worst Game of the Year received that dubious honor."

Super Mario Galaxy won Kotaku's Overall Game of the Year award. Uncharted: Drake's Fortune came as second, it won the Not Quite Game of the Year award. (Kotaku posted the overall results as a separate post, see the link at the Alternative Sources below for more details.)
Nov 20, 2007

If the original Soldier of Fortune games are remembered for anything - and let's be honest, they probably aren't - it's probably for being those first-person shooters where you could blow people's limbs off. Even though they were a lot of fun, with tight controls and reasonably intelligent enemies, they're still best known for being gory.

Now we have a new SoF sequel, and if it is destined to be remembered for anything - which it won't - it's that it too is a dismemberment-prone ...

Destructoid got their hands on some new screen shots, but more importantly, they also got the Achievement list... You Achievement addicts will probably be pleased with this list as some of them look to be extremely easy to earn.
"Blood and Gore", "Drug Reference", "Intense Violence", "Sexual Themes", "Strong Language". And such is the case with this new Soldier of Fortune: Payback trailer.

It plays out like a recruitment advert, showing a burly fellow hurdling artillery bombardments and gunning down 'locals' in a vague Middle-Eastern location. It bellows that mercenaries are wanted ...
Shooting - or knifing, or just trusty old punching in the balls - someone that youve already killed has been a gaming guilty pleasure since Castle Wolfenstein, but never before has it been a reason to buy a game. Yet so much work has gone into the enemy damage system in the upcoming FPS Soldier of Fortune: Payback that you may find yourself spending more time devising creative ways to maim prone enemies than playing the actual game.

This is hardly an exaggeration: developer ...
Rumors circulating yesterday on the return of Activision's ultra-violent FPS series Soldier of Fortune are indeed true, according to follow-up reports.

Kenn Hoekstra, a former employee of Raven Software that developed the SOF games, has posted on Blue's News forums confirming the existence of Pay Back, at the same time informing that Raven is not actually developing the sequel and "it's Activision Value that's publishing it."

As to who is developing Pay Back, it's thought it could be ...
