In line to take the "best racer of the year" award...

The track design is worthy of special mention. We raced two stages in the Tropical environment (there will be six environments with different routes available through each), one stage in the Alpine level through varied road surfaces and a brand new track, Canyon. The latter is our favorite, with some thrilling high-speed drifts and a devilishly challenging double-apex left-hander near the end of the lap. There’s ample opportunity for overtaking on all the tracks and the cars are well balanced, so anybody can win if they have the skill.

After finally being pried from the steering wheel, we’ve come away convinced the new Sega Rally has potential for greatness. But with this one proviso: if the game reaches us with a rock-solid 30fps frame-rate. If so, we should be looking at one of the best games of the year. It feels like driving the rally car of your wildest dreams – and how many games can honestly claim to do that?
