After a few races, you find yourself looking for the best bits of track. You want to avoid that puddle, so you take a sharper line to avoid it… only next time round, your tire tracks have filled with water, so another approach might be better. Hit smooth mud instead of the cut-in trench and you’ll understeer badly. And driving over virgin snow is one of the most joyous pleasures next-gen racing can offer.

Due to the deformation, however, time attack mode can’t be tackled in one lap stints, as the track is effectively different every time you complete a lap. So instead, it will be staged in 3-lap runs. That way, it’s fair for everyone. It’s a good idea – and the only way we can see of getting around the issue.
