First footage of id's new shooter

Rage ambition revealed in gritty trailer

Developer id, in case you don't know, is effectively the father of the modern FPS - having forged the blast-heavy genre through landmarks like Wolfenstein, Doom and Quake. Now id is trying something a little different, with brand new title Rage.

The first footage, shown last weekend at a Quake convention, suggests a mix of popular FPS action styles and other types of gameplay. There's the traditional shooting in store, of course. But watch for some Condemned-type upclose violence, the Fallout-style apocalyptic world and those Motorstorm-esque racers tearing around the dusty track.
