Konami Digital Entertainment revealed it has started shipping Pro Evolution Soccer 2008 to retailers in North America for the Xbox 360, PS3, PSP and PC.

Today Konami confirmed to IGN that the franchise formerly titled Winning Eleven Soccer in the United States will now be known as Pro Evolution Soccer 2008. This in no way affects the title in Europe where it will stay known as Pro Evolution Soccer.

Pro Evolution Soccer 2008 is scheduled to ship on March 11, 2008.

LOVEFiLM, Europe's number one online DVD rental service, expects Assassin's Creed to top sales and rentals this holiday season.

"Assassins Creed will definitely be up there; our audience have already heavily pre-ordered this and the sure scale of the experience is very cinematic, so will prove popular amongst film fans," Chris Bird, head of marketing services for LOVEFiLM, told GamesIndustry.biz.

"Kane and Lynch will also do well, as will Call of Duty 4. FIFA 08 and PES will also be 'must buy' for anyone getting a new console over Christmas."

Will it ruin the beautiful game and does it set a poor example to our future football stars?

"This new diving tactic has also caused a bit of debate amongst friends and long term fans of the Pro Evo series, who have long thought that the game is the best and most true to life footballing experience in a videogame. That debate revolves around the question that, while FIFA and the FA are actively trying to discourage diving in the real world of football, should Konami have included this diving tactic in their extremely popular football series? A list of stadiums featuring for the PS2 version of Pro Evolution Soccer 2008 has been announced on the Konami endorsed winningelevenblog.com. Controversially the list does not include any Italian stadiums. It is hoped the PS3, Xbox 360 and PC versions have a more extensive selection.

According to French gaming website Jeux-Video, a number of details were revealed regarding Konami's Pro Evolution Soccer 2008 during the IDEF event in Cannes, France. Konami expects a playable version of the soccer sim to be available on August 22nd which will most likely be making an apperance at the Leipzig event. Konami also noted that the Japanese version should be identical to the European version and there should be no technical differences between the PS3 and Xbox 360 incarnations.
