There comes a time in many games where the expected method of play becomes a bit too expected. It's when you're on this cusp of boredom that you realize that the greatest gift gaming has given us is the ability to plough your own way - to refuse to enter the test chamber just to see if you get in trouble. So join us as we subvert the basic concepts of gameplay by generally screwing around in games, whether through harassing NPCs, torturing virtual people or organizing naked foot races in ...
The Elder Scrolls: Oblivion

Epic quests need epic endings, and theres not much that's more epic than a giant red thing fighting an oversized golden award trophy. The dragon trophy decimates the Vishnu-armed creature by breathing white stuff on it, and the fate of the world is put in your hands. But the games over, so good luck with ...
Today we received an update on the status of the new content along with some good news. The patch is still in the works, though there isn't any timeline for when it will be released aside from, "when they're done." The good news that was passed on to us is that the new Prey content will be free for both the PC and Xbox 360 versions.
PC and Xbox 360 first-person shooter Prey may have only just squeezed out the sphinc-door, but the sequel is already being whipped into shape, it's emerged.

Scott Miller has revealed he's currently working on Prey 2 in an interview with Next-Gen.biz. Although not exactly spilling massive beans on the follow-up, he did at least offer up a little about design plans, explaining, "We are addressing concerns about combat, as well as adding in more gameplay innovations."
A couple of months back, we were treated to a sneak multiplayer preview of the hit shooter-with-schizophrenic-gravity, Prey. The developers at Human Head gave us a drubbing - and we still can't get the taste of rusty pipe wrench out of our mouths.
Friday 14 July 2006
Prey is the touching story of how one man comes to accept his spiritual heritage, to the delight of his girlfriend, after being kidnapped by aliens. His girlfriend is considerably less delighted about the aliens, as she's been kidnapped too, but you can't have everything.

It's potentially a bummer that his granddad gets squashed to death and Tommy falls off a bridge and dies after just a few minutes. You might think that was a bit of a spoiler, but it's not - these are the ...
Alien abduction, out-of-body Cherokee weirdness, squelchy spaceships and mind-bending upside down mentalism - Prey is a mad-as-a-badger's-handbag first-person shooter with some spaced out ideas that make it one of the most unique extra-terrestrial slaughter fests that we've ever had the pleasure to play.

With development done, dusted and the game out for PC and Xbox 360 tomorrow, we blast 10 quick-fire questions at Prey developer and Human Head CEO Tim Gerritsen just ...
You might want to hold onto something for this one: Prey turns fast-paced first-person shooter action on its head quite literally with some dizzying gravity effects that would have Sir Isaac Newton spinning in his grave. In multiple directions.

As Tommy, a Native American on a quest to rescue his girlfriend Jen from being pureed in an alien Cuisinart, you'll battle your way through a massive cybernetic alien spaceship that scoffs in the face of the laws of physics. At the flip of a switch the ...

It appears that NVIDIA SLI owners cannot run the recently released Prey demo. NVIDIA has issued a statement with a workaround as well as word on an upcoming driver patch:

A few enthusiasts have commented that the recent Prey demo does not support NVIDIA SLI. NVIDIA is currently testing a Prey SLI profile, which we expect to release later this week in a new driver on nZone.com.

In the meantime, users can simply copy and paste the Quake 4 profile to make Prey scale. Prey and Quake 4 were developed with the DOOM 3 (OpenGL) engine, and SLI scales very well on Quake 4.

NVIDIA recommends users download the new 91.31 Forceware drivers for Prey. This driver works great on the Prey demo with all NVIDIA GPUs.

2K, a publishing label of Take-Two Interactive Software, Inc. TTWO, and 3D Realms today announced the first-person shooter Prey has gone to gold master and will be available in North America on July 11th and in Europe on July 14th. Developed by Human Head Studios under the direct supervision of 3D Realms, Prey will be available for Xbox 360(TM) video game and entertainment system from Microsoft and PC in both a regular edition and a Limited Collector's Edition. The demo for the PC version of Prey is currently available for download, with an Xbox 360 demo available soon.

Prey raises the bar for first-person shooters and is a must-have game for the summer," said Christoph Hartmann, President, 2K. "Its unique features, crisp graphics and in-depth storyline make it a truly revolutionary game."

Prey is a groundbreaking first-person shooter that turns the genre upside-down with new gameplay features and next generation graphics. Breaking the traditional first-person shooter format, Prey introduces innovative gameplay elements including wall-walking, portals, spirit-walking and gravity flipping, which allows for insane eight player deathmatches.
Prey is one of the most anticipated shooters ever - if only because it's had such a long time to work people up. In fact, this first-person shooter has taken longer than America's entire moon landing mission, from JFK's "We choose to go to the moon" speech to the final splashdown of Apollo 17. After 11 years in the making, Prey is finally here. Almost.

The demo contains the first hour(ish) of the single-player game and two multiplayer maps. And while your character Tommy doesn't exactly choose ...
For those of you with a hankering for some gravity-defying, portal-hopping action, Human Head has released a demo of its forthcoming first-person shooter Prey for free PC download. Xbox 360 gamers will soon get a taste of the action, too, with the download heading to Xbox Live Marketplace "soon after the PC release," says co-publisher 3D Realms (though it was earmarked to launch alongside the PC download today).

This isn't just another FPS, it's looking to include everything you could ask for from the genre.

What makes Prey unique is its use of gravity, or lack thereof. The gunplay is standard fare, and the game's modes (death match and team death match) aren't anything new, but we thoroughly enjoyed walking up walls, along ceilings, and then having everything reversed. For example, this one level we saw turns upside down every so often, so the floor would become the ceiling and vice versa. Then there's another in which players run across this gigantic sphere, but there's a much smaller sphere orbiting the big one, so what ensues are these insane battles in which people on both spheres are shooting all over the place. All of this definitely keeps things fresh and exciting, and seeing as how developer Human Head plans to put at least 8-10 maps into the game, we fully expect them to somehow make use of Prey's most popular features, in particular the portals that allow us to walk between different environments and better yet, blast opponents on the other side.
This bad ass looking FPS is probably not going to do much to advance its genre, but it's got just about everything we could ask for; slimy and evil looking aliens, lots of cool weapons, eight person multiplayer (a weak number, but we'll take it), and a different type of main character. It just looks like a fun game, and while we can't vouch for its single player campaign, we did go a few rounds with its enjoyable multiplayer component.
Friday 16 June 2006
Prey is possibly the maddest shooter we've ever seen. With its horrifying and grotesque monsters, out-of-this-world zero gravity and roof-scaling gameplay, we get the shivers just thinking about playing it. Take a look at these new screens and you'll get an idea of what we mean.

In other exciting news, the demo that developer 3D Realms announced last month is set to be released for download on 22 June and features two multiplayer levels and an hour of single player action. ...
The demo will be comprised of five levels that will enable gamers to sample both the single and multiplayer modes of this dimensionally disjointed game.

Prey is a remarkable looking shooter that has a young Native American mechanic called Tommy attempting to thwart an alien invasion with a ...
Ready to peep out some mad multiplayer action? Check out the trailer just released for Prey, the mind-melting first-person shooter set to be shipped this June. This footage promises that once you've journeyed through the single-player version of the "living" alien ship, your head trip won't end. The ship is rife with weird portals, gravity-swapping walkways and vertigo-inducing environments.

Even in multiplayer, you'll be able to experience the spirit walking and out-of-body action that's in ...
• Prey (WMV, 31.0MB) - right-click to download

Tuesday 25 April 2006
2K Games has released a new trailer of its trippy first-person shooter, Prey, which will be released for PC and Xbox 360 this summer.

The game follows the story of Tommy, a Cherokee car mechanic who is abducted by aliens and must fight his way to safety.

While the idea of smacking up extra-terrestrials isn't particularly new, Prey's way of doing it definitely is: the ship Tommy is taken to is 'living', so is constantly ...
You know how some games have that one pivotal thing? Shooting through walls with the Rail Gun in Red Faction, dealing tough love to Headcrabs wielding Half-Life's crowbar, the sheer vastness of the armies you command in the Total War games ... they're all cool elements with real sucker punch potential. Now, imagine four or five of these "one things" crammed into a single game. That's Prey.

Both the shooter genre and the concept of "alien" have been re-imagined. You are Tommy, an embittered ...
As we outlined in our recent 360 preview, Prey is no ordinary space-based FPS. With its odd-ball plot, quirky design and organic surroundings it's shaping up to be a truly unique experience, but not just in the single-player game; the multiplayer action looks just as intriguing. And we've got some gameplay footage to prove it.

In the movie you'll see a variety of weapons including the Spirit Bow and an Acid Gun that uses alien blood as ammo. There are also special walkways that allow your ...
