PC - RAGE - id: 'Rage should become as big as Doom is' During a presentation today at GamesCom in Germany id Software's Lead Designer Matt Hooper talked about the future of Rage. Speaking to Gaming Only he said that "in the future the Rage franchise should become as big as Doom, Quake and Wolfenstein". With this statement Hooper wanted to give an indication of the importance of the new franchise to id Software.

PC - RAGE - Rage Designer Promises No Monster Closets One of the major criticism's lobbed at Doom 3 was its reliance on a "monster closet" system for spawning enemies into a level when trigger points were reached. It may have provided for plenty of frights on the first play through, but many gamers simply memorized the spawn points making short work of Zombies, Cyberdemons, and Hell Knights.

With Rage, the developers are trying to avoid the criticisms of the past and make gamers rethink the concept of an "id game." In a recent interview with 1UP, Matt Hooper, leader designer on Rage, gave strong reassurance that gamers have seen the last of those dreadful closets.

PC - RAGE - Rage's First Level Hasn't Even Been Built Yet You'd think designing a video game would be somewhat of a linear experience. The first thing you build is the first level…right? Not with Rage.

id Software technical director John Carmack pulled back the veil on the long-in-development shooter Rage during his QuakeCon keynote in Texas today and revealed id Software has yet to even build the first level for Rage because the company is trying something new with Rage.
