PC - Need for Speed ProStreet - EA confident of becoming Christmas number one Electronic Arts believes its forthcoming racing title Need for Speed ProStreet will win the race to become this year's Christmas number one video game.

"A Need for Speed game has been Christmas number one for four of the last five years, with FIFA only pipping it to the post last year in a debatable count back," said Steve Farrell, senior product manager at EA.

"We are confident the increased quality of the game this year ¿ as well as our extensive marketing campaign, with support throughout the run-up to Christmas ¿ will help to re-establish a Need For Speed game at number one."

PC News | Need for Speed ProStreet
EA has released a brand new trailer for the upcoming racer, Need For Speed: Pro Street. And this one's all about the smoke effects. There's not that long to go now until the launch of EA's new Need For Speed title; it's out around October. This time round the focus is on realism, but it's not really going after the likes of GT or Forza. "We're definitely not looking to make a simulation. I think 'simulation' is a bit of a dirty word," producer John Doyle recently told us. Check out the movie ...

PC News | Need for Speed ProStreet
You know what's always been missing from Need For Speed? Smoke. Lots and lots of smoke. Fortunately, that's just what we're treated to in this fresh footage from NFS Pro Street, the semi-reinvention of the flashy racing series. We have to say we like what we see. Regular videogame smoke/steam/mist can be so, well, wispy - but this is top-grade billowing clouds of the stuff, like the spouting steam of a red-hot kettle trapped at boiling point or a smoldering tire wedged in a roasting ...

PC News | Need for Speed ProStreet
Our early impression of Need for Speed: ProStreet is that its more of a simulator gunning for the Forzas and GTs out there, but that's not the case says producer, John Doyle. "We're definitely not looking to make a simulation. I think 'simulation' is a bit of a dirty word," said Doyle, who made it clear ProStreet is not EA's answer to Forza at all. "There's some baggage involved in [simulations] in that it's punishing or not fun." Doyle explains that it's not a simulation that EA is aiming ...

PC News | Need for Speed ProStreet
Need For Speed: ProStreet is a real leap for the long-running series. Not only does it take place on race tracks (not streets), in the harsh light of day (not of neon-riven night), but it's now aiming for realism too as this new video shows. While the data taken by the team will no doubt be accurate, it's telling that Jacques Kerner, physics lead on the game, mentions the handling will be "forgiving." So while the cars will hint at realistic understeer or oversteer, you're unlikely to find ...
