  • Halloween isn't just all about costumes and candy, it's also about spooky game add-ons filled with zombies, pumpkins… or both! Check out some of the Halloween themed trailers and screens that were released today…

  • 20th Dec, 2007 Gaming is an up and down experience. Some years cram top quality titles into our every orifice until were bursting with videogame joy and have excess polygons dripping messily out of our ears, while some other years… Well, some other years are 1983. In 2007 though, weve had a very good year indeed. A scarily good year in fact. One which has provided us so much brilliance on every format that its a genuine worry that the laws of karmic balance will soon bring us a plague
  • After listening to what was called an “exciting” earnings call by someone who’s listened to far more than I have, a few interesting facts can be gleaned from Take-Two’s second quarter earnings call to investors (and media obviously). After the publisher crowed about just how awesome Red Dead Redemption is doing in sales and critical response, they mentioned the biggest downer of the call, which was Max Payne 3 being delayed again, this time out of fiscal 2010. For non-business smarty-pants, this means sometime after October 31, 2010. Whether that results in it being a big November title or if it’s going to slip into 2011, they wouldn’t go into any more details, but don’t expect to touch this one any time soon...

  • As the console wars continue, a new contender in the digital download conflict emerges. Publisher and developer Electronic Arts has announced that it’ll be offering “platform exclusives” in the form of games only available through its own download service, Origin. The announcement coincides with new exclusivity requirements added for rival digital distribution service Steam, which have already seen Crysis 2 and other titles removed from its catalogue.

“You talk about platform exclusives like Halo or Uncharted,” explains EA's Frank Gibeau: “EA's going to have some of our own platform exclusives.” The “Only on Origin” badge has already shown up on advertising for Battlefield 3 and Crysis 2...

  • Game designer American McGee teased his new game a few weeks ago, but at the Game Developer’s Conference last week, he announced that his team is working on three new projects for 2012…

  • Freedom of speech? Bah! Who wants that? Games are clearly rotting humanity’s collective eternal soul and must be banned accordingly. The following collection of violent, titillating titles have offended censors all over the world. Some have been beaten to death by the banning bat for their gory deaths, others for displaying acts of girl-on-girl action, while one was even banned for having a two-headed cow. Really, just what is this

  • Above: Silly hats for everyone. Steam is now offering free-to-play titles for download with micro-transaction support

The Steam monster’s rampage continues. Not content with pocketing our cash from its regular and reasonable sales, the digital distribution service has added free-to-play games and micro-transactions its catalogue. Starting today players can download and start playing Spiral Knights, Forsaken Worlds, Champions Online: Free for All, Global Agenda: Free Agent, and Alliance of Valliant Arms…

  • Three years ago developer RealTime Worlds appeared to be headed for stardom. The company’s first release, Crackdown, was a hit, and it also had an awesome open-world MMO in development, called APB, which promised relief from the genre’s fantasy obsession.

What a difference three years can make. APB, the developer’s golden child, received terrible reviews and has been spraying red ink across company balance sheets as if its carotid had been severed. This has forced RealTime Worlds to enter “administration,” the UK equivalent to bankruptcy. Most of the staff has been told to clear out by Friday...

  • Should you buy APB, Crysis 2, F.E.A.R. 3, XCOM, or Bulletstorm? PC Gamer’s Shooter Showdown has all the answers. The issue highlights some of the biggest doses of first-person action coming our way, including an in-depth look at Crysis 2, a first encounter with XCOM, a F.E.A.R. 3 freakshow and a final inspection of APB. Plus, we preview Deus Ex 3, The Witcher 2, The Sims 3 Ambitions and the new MMO/RTS End of Nations. In reviews we pass judgment on Splinter Cell: Conviction, Lead & Gold: Gangs of the Wild West, Sam & Max Season 3, Episode 1: The Penal Zone, Love, Plain Sight, Grand Theft Auto: Episodes from Liberty City and Mount & Blade: Warband. And that’s just the beginning!
