An overwhelming majority of gamers are male, so it makes perfect sense for every marketing team in the world to target their software at young guys. And what do all men ages 18 to one zillion love? Girls, gore and big loud machines. If they could make a game about a firefighting bikini squad that hunts down zombies in a decked-out sex/fire truck, world peace would be declared. According to the Entertainment Software Association's 2006 report, 38 percent of gamers are females. These numbers are down from 2005, when the fairer sex reportedly accounted for 43 percent of the pie.

Extra extra! Hot off the presses, we’ve got the NPDs for the month of March, namely the stats on the top ten best selling games of the month and what all the consoles sold in the US as well. Looking at the list, we realize that March was a crazy month for game releases; it arguably had more AAA titles than last November.
We sort of thought the Guinness Book of World Records was a collection of definite, measurable achievements. Like, that's pretty much everything it represents... or not - the latest edition of the Guinness Gamers' Edition contains a list of the top 50 game series, not by total sales or anything factual like that, but as determined by a poll. It's horrific.

It's been a fine year for Steam, with the platform expanding onto Mac and highlighting no end of titles, big-name and plucky indie alike. To celebrate, Valve is rounding off the year with a promotion that ought to reward achievement-junkies and freebie-addicts in equal measure...

We don’t consider ourselves big poker fans. Nor do we closely follow the latest entries in the high stakes poker games genre.
