The long-lost ruler of ancient civilization building sims - the Caesar series - is making preparations to reclaim its throne. After an absence of eight years, the fourth edition arrives in September with new gameplay and, as the screens below show, a whole new look. Caesar IV gives strategy and history buffs the opportunity to rule a piece of the Roman Empire. By appeasing your citizens with roads, water and - of course - crazy blood-soaked coliseum-style entertainment, you will rise in rank

Do you fancy being as powerful as the most famous toga wearer of them all, Julius Caesar? The city building sim, Caesar IV, will give you the chance of rising to the rank of Emperor and rule as ruthlessly as the man the game is named after. All it takes is some political savvy and some astute town planning. Gamers will start Caesar IV as governor of a small provincial Roman town whose job is to develop the local economy and trade networks by making the town a secure and safe place to live.

What happens when you take the best technology from today and combine it with two-millennia-old Roman ingenuity? Well, you get a highly advanced empire-building strategy game, of course. The fourth in the series of magistrate-minded games, Caesar IV lets you walk a mile in the sandals of history's most powerful leader. Basking underneath the blazing (and High Dynamic Range enabled, for the tech-minded folks out there) Tuscan sun, you'll begin a few rungs below the Emperor. Well, actually, at

Call of Duty 2 players who download the latest patch will find two new multiplayer levels, including a rework of "Harbor," a fan favorite from the original Call of Duty that pits the Russians against the German Wehrmacht in the grenade-friendly shipping port of Rostov, Russia. Rhine, the second battlefield, will let you follow the 2nd Rangers through the war-torn streets of Wallendar, Germany, in what was historically some of the most brutal urban combat of World War

We sort of thought the Guinness Book of World Records was a collection of definite, measurable achievements. Like, that's pretty much everything it represents... or not - the latest edition of the Guinness Gamers' Edition contains a list of the top 50 game series, not by total sales or anything factual like that, but as determined by a poll. It's horrific.

Above: A more videogame-like college experience could level the playing field by providing easier access to higher education, claims Pawlenty

Wouldn’t it be cool if you got to play videogames at home instead of attending lectures at a university? It sounds like the sort of idea a teenager might come up while daydreaming in the classroom. But the proposal favoring a remote learning system that favors interactive games over traditional lectures comes from former Minnesota governor Tim Pawlenty…

15th Jan, 2007 The end credits of a game are usually by far the worst part. We're not talking about the game's ending here. Those can be spectacular. No, what we mean is the actual credits themselves. Not only are they the visual death toll of another game over, but all they offer you in consolation is the boring visage of a lot of names scrolling up the screen. And these days it's a lot of names. Back in the 8-bit home computer days we usually got away with one guy's signature on a title

Sept 11, 2007 Those of you who werent lucky enough to be invited to download the Xbox 360 multiplayer beta of Call of Duty 4: Modern warfare, now have the chance to see what all the fuss is about by fixing your sights on our freshly captured footage. And were please to report its every bit as satisfying as it looks. An especially nice feature is the inclusion of assist points. Remember the intense feeling of anger you get after off-loading an entire clip into an enemy only for a team mate to

Freedom of speech? Bah! Who wants that? Games are clearly rotting humanity’s collective eternal soul and must be banned accordingly. The following collection of violent, titillating titles have offended censors all over the world. Some have been beaten to death by the banning bat for their gory deaths, others for displaying acts of girl-on-girl action, while one was even banned for having a two-headed cow. Really, just what is this

If there's a game we're all pining for here at GamesRadar it's Modern Warfare 2. We're not sure if it's because Activision has so tightly controlled the exposure of the game and we feel a bit starved of info or because caning Zombie mode on World at War is starting to wear just a little thin - but any new footage has us crowding round monitors and gibbering like excitable children.  Above: The footage is
